Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.

The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.

    All About Tweeters 3-3/4"

    Tweeter Information

Tweeters are small speakers, usually 1-4” in diameter that are installed either in the side of the car’s dashboard or built inside a mid-range speaker, and provide high-frequency sounds from the audio being transmitted from the stereo. The tweeters in this category are all sold separately to add to your current set-up for a crisp, more accurate sound.

    Tweeters Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Tweeters are a type of speaker driver designed to reproduce high-frequency sounds in a car audio system. They are responsible for handling frequencies typically ranging from 2,000Hz to 20,000Hz, which includes the treble and high-frequency details in music. Tweeters play a crucial role in delivering crisp, clear, and detailed sound, especially for vocals, cymbals, and other high-pitched instruments. By reproducing these frequencies accurately, tweeters contribute to a balanced and immersive audio experience in the car, enhancing the overall sound quality and adding sparkle and definition to the music.
Yes, you can add tweeters to your existing car audio system to improve the high-frequency performance. Many vehicles come with factory-installed speakers that may lack the clarity and detail offered by aftermarket tweeters. Adding tweeters can be a cost-effective way to enhance the sound quality without replacing all the speakers in the car. Consider selecting tweeters that are compatible with your car's speaker setup and amplifier power. There are various types of tweeters available, including dome tweeters, cone tweeters, and ribbon tweeters, each with its unique sound characteristics. Professional installation is recommended to ensure proper placement and integration with your car's existing audio system, avoiding any potential phase and frequency response issues.
Component speakers come with separate tweeters, woofers, and crossovers, offering a more sophisticated and customizable audio setup. The separate tweeters can be mounted in optimal locations, such as the door pillars or dashboard, providing better soundstage and imaging. The crossovers ensure that each driver receives the appropriate frequencies, resulting in improved sound clarity and separation. On the other hand, coaxial speakers feature integrated tweeters mounted on top of the woofer cone, simplifying installation and saving space. While coaxial speakers are easier to install, they may not deliver the same level of audio precision and imaging as component speakers. The choice between component and coaxial speakers depends on your priorities and preferences, with component speakers offering higher sound quality and customization options, while coaxial speakers are more convenient for straightforward installations.
Tweeters can be constructed using various materials, each influencing the sound characteristics. Common tweeter materials include silk, textile, polyurethane, and metal. Silk and textile tweeters are known for their smooth and warm sound, providing a pleasing listening experience without harshness. Polyurethane tweeters offer a balanced sound with good detail and efficiency, making them suitable for many music genres. Metal tweeters, such as aluminum or titanium, are known for their high power handling and crisp sound reproduction, offering excellent clarity and precision for high-frequency notes. Each material has its strengths, and the choice depends on your preferred sound signature. Sonic Electronix offers a wide range of tweeters with different materials and designs to cater to various preferences and budgets.
The power requirements of tweeters depend on their sensitivity and the overall car audio system setup. Many tweeters have a high sensitivity rating, meaning they can produce ample volume with lower power inputs. If your tweeters have a sensitivity rating above 90dB, your car's head unit or existing amplifier should be capable of powering them sufficiently. However, for higher-end or low-sensitivity tweeters, a separate amplifier may be necessary to provide enough power for optimal performance. Adding a dedicated amplifier for tweeters can also help in achieving better control over the high-frequency response and improve overall sound quality. When selecting an amplifier, consider its power output, matching it with the tweeters' power handling capabilities. A higher-powered amplifier can also help prevent distortion and deliver a cleaner sound at higher volumes. As always, professional installation is recommended to ensure the tweeters are properly matched and integrated with the rest of the car audio system.

Tweeters are an essential component of any car audio system, responsible for reproducing high-frequency sounds with exceptional precision and clarity. These compact speakers excel in handling frequencies at the upper end of the audio spectrum, making them ideal for reproducing vocals, cymbals, and other intricate details in your favorite tracks.

One of the key advantages of incorporating tweeters into your car audio setup is achieving a well-balanced soundstage. By complementing the midrange and midbass speakers, tweeters bring out the full spectrum of sound, resulting in a more immersive listening experience. With their specialized focus on the high frequencies, tweeters ensure that every musical nuance is brought to life, allowing you to hear your music the way it was intended by the artist.

Aside from enhancing audio quality, tweeters can also improve sound localization within the car. With their directional nature, they can create a sense of space and depth, making it easier for you to pinpoint the source of each sound. This adds an extra layer of realism to your listening experience, as if you were right there in the recording studio or live concert.
