While not the most popular size, 5-1/4" speakers are still commonly found in many cars. These speakers are characterized by even, accurate tones throughout the midbass spectrum, and will definitely supply a respectable amount of bass for basic systems. As they are not the largest speakers, a 5-1/4" coaxial or component speaker will be complemented excellently by an added subwoofer. Round woofer cones are prized by audiophiles, and for that reason many top-tier component systems are only available with 6-1/2" or 5-1/4" drivers. Many of these speakers feature flexible mounting holes that allow them to be installed in oval speaker locations, such as 5"x7" or 6"x8" that cannot accommodate the larger 6.5" round speakers.
