Upgrading your car speakers is the best and most affordable way to improve your sound system. An after-market set of speakers is better able to handle a wider range of frequencies, giving the lower notes greater depth and making the higher notes sound more defined. After-market car speakers are built with materials that are durable and temperature resistant. For example, most auto speakers include a rubber or foam surround for enhanced durability. The most important figure to look at when gauging a speaker's quality is its sensitivity rating. An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play given a set amount of input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter away from the speaker. Some are measured with 2.83 volts of input rather than 1 watt.

3-1/2" Speakers	3.5" Car speakers are typically installed on the dashboard below the front windshield. These smaller speakers fit into a wide variety of applications due to their small size.
4" Speakers	4" speakers are found in many types of vehicles. They typically are used on the dashboard, in the doors, or the rear deck below the rear window. It is common for 4" speakers to be used in outdoor applications such as marine or power sport vehicles. These speakers can also be found as a 4" speaker component system.
5-1/4" Speakers	5.25" Car speakers are very popular replacement speakers for similar sized locations. They fit into many vehicles' factory locations and greatly improve the sound when comparing to factory stock speakers. These speakers can also be found as a 5-1/4" speaker component system.
6-1/2" Speakers	6.5" Car speakers are the most popular replacement speaker size. The circular design allows a natural replication of music the way the artist intended. There are many car and marine speakers as well as bookshelf and home theatre speakers in this size. These speakers can also be found as a 6-1/2" speaker component system.
6-3/4" Speakers	6.75" Car speakers are popular among many vehicles on the road today. They offer a full range of sound that is much better than the factory speakers that your car came with. Sometimes referred to as oversized 6.5" speakers, these mobile audio speakers are available in both a coaxial and component configuration. These speakers can also be found as a 6-3/4" speaker component system.
8" Speakers	8" Car speakers are used in high-end vehicles such as Corvette's, BMW, and some Bose audio systems. 8" Speakers can deliver a very clear, yet loud sound due to their oversized yet efficient design.
4" x 6" Speakers	4x6" Car speakers are used in many GM vehicles in locations such as kick panels and door panels. These speakers started to become popular during the 70's when vehicle manufacturers began pairing them with factory Delco radios.
5" x 7" Speakers	5x7" Car speakers are primarily used in Ford, Mazda, and Chrysler vehicles. The most common locations for these mid-sized ovals are in the rear deck and in some cases within the front dashboard. These speakers can also be found as a 5" x 7" speaker component system.
6" x 8" Speakers	6x8" speakers are great for those who want to have a smooth blend of higher and lower frequencies. These speakers typically will produce more bass than a comparable circular speaker due to the increase in cone area and the larger excursion. These speakers can also be found as a 6" x 8" speaker component system.
6" X 9" Speakers	6x9" Car speakers are a very common speaker for many vehicles. The larger cone area allows for great bass response. With a larger speaker chassis, there are often multiple tweeters built into the center of the speaker for a great full-range sound.
4" x 10" Speakers	4x10" Car speakers are oval shaped and found mainly in older Saab and GM vehicles. Their size is very compact which makes it easy to fit them in locations such as car pilliars or speaker pods.
Mid-range Speakers	Midrange drivers will typically produce a frequency range of 300-5000hz. Midrange speakers are used in almost all vehicles on the market today. They produce music in the most audible sound spectrum where instruments and the human voice lie.
Tweeters	Tweeters are designed to produce high end frequencies that are considered to be the upper limit of hearing. The word tweeter is derived from high pitch sounds that some birds make. These loudspeakers are typically used for sound reinforcement of higher end music notes such as vocals and instruments.
Center Channel	Center channel speakers are used in applications where a center speaker in the front of the vehicle is desired. Some vehicles with premium audio such as Mercedes, Ford, and BMW may come with a center channel built into the dash. Other locations include above or below your aftermarket car stereo, or built into the headliner of your vehicle above your head.

Selecting the Proper Speaker for Your Application

In order to select the proper set of speakers for your sound system, you should look at the RMS power-handling rating. The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling also refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend giving your speakers 75% - 90% of its recommended RMS rating to help prevent over-powering or blowing your speakers.

Our full-range car speakers are available in many shapes and sizes. Most feature a woofer and tweeter molded into the speaker. Some also have midrange drivers. In contrast, component systems feature separate woofers and tweeters. This allows you to mount the tweeters in an optimal location for generating a more realistic sound. They also have midranges and external crossovers, which send separate frequencies to the woofer and the tweeter for a more efficient reproduction.
