Don't be fooled by the "CCD" in the model name. This is definitely NOT a CCD camera. I purchased one of these thinking that it would be CCD. I wanted a good quality camera so I was willing to pay a little more. I liked that it is small and I wanted to mount it horizontally, which this one can do. It has the lines that are superimposed over the video to help you judge distance.

I am very disappointed by how lousy this camera really is. The resolution is low and pixilated. The contrast is too high so everything looks posterized and the colors are washed out. Even in bright sunlight it is hard to tell what you are looking at. In lower light you can only see very bright objects. Forget about seeing anything at night even with your backup lights on. The distance lines are very thick and bright so it is very difficult to see what is behind them so I turned them off. It is helpful that you CAN turn them off but it is a permanent solution because it involves cutting a wire.

I have tried to live with it for several months now but it is so useless that I have decided to buy a different camera that I will be installing when it arrives. If you don't care about the quality of the video then you can buy a CMOS camera for about half the price of this camera and probably get better results. It was a total waste of money for me. I would not recommend this camera under any circumstances.

April 26, 2010 Great Little Camera

This camera is small, probably less than 1" cubed, and works very well. After researching backup cameras I decided to spend the extra money on a CCD camera and I'm glad I did. It has great picture quality, even at night, and makes it a lot easier to back our minivan up in crowded parking lots. The camera has a very wide angle lens, so we can see nearly our entire bumper with it.
Installing the camera itself was pretty easy... it just screwed into the garnish trim above our license plate. Running the wiring to the front was a little harder, but it can be done with time.
