I purchased this to replace the rear deck speakers in my 2000 Porsche Boxster S. Porsche originally used two 3" paper cone speakers on each side which were poor from the beginning, but since nobody made anything to fit I put up with it! But after this much time, the paper cones and thin foam surrounds would crumble if you touched them, so it was time to find a solution.
The first problem was that I needed to create an entirely new mounting plate that fit into the Porsche rear deck assembly but had greater space for a new speaker system. After looking at many alternatives, I created a new mounting surface from Lexan that was designed around the Polk MM461p speakers. While there are undoubtedly better speakers in the 4x6 or 4x6 plate category, the 461p not only fit the bill from a cost / performance standpoint, but it's unique oval plate allowed me to fit it into the tight space allowed by Porsche's rear deck. Even with the 461p having the smaller footprint than any other 4x6 plate, I needed to trim some of it away in order to squeeze it in, but far less trim work with my Dremel tool was needed than would have been required with any other plate speaker. After creating a dense foam spacer to use between the Lexan and speaker plate surface, everything was mounted using nylon screws / nuts and then mounted. Thankfully, everything fit and worked perfectly the first time! And the reason for the speakers is of course to improve the sound, and these made me realize just how poor the original speakers were! Even with the stock HU and amp, the difference in performance was obvious and worth all of the effort.

I got these to replace the factory rear speakers in my 02 Silverado ext cab truck. They are a lot louder and crisper than the factory speakers. I'll admit though, the factory speakers had a little more bass than these, but you don't buy 4x6's for bass anyway. I'm sure the SQ will only improve as they continue to break in. I'm sure it will be an improvement when I get some more power running through them as well. Like some other reviewers have stated, the speaker mounting frames are made of plastic. If you are not careful you can overtighten the mounting screws and break the mounting tabs. If you just take your time and use common sense (and do it by HAND, not a power drill/driver) you'll be OK. Overall another great sounding set of speakers from Polk Audio!
FYI. If you plan on using the included mounting screws, be sure you have a metric allen wrench set handy as they are allen head screws.

I purchased these to replace a set of $60 Pioneer speakers on my rear deck. The difference in sound quality is impressive.
The MMs have a much warmer, and yet clearer sound than the Pioneers. In my opinion they also blow the Polk Db series out of the water. The separate "tweeter/round mid" design, is far superior to the elliptical design. You get what you pay for! I am using a simple 4*16 Watts RMS Single Din Alpine Head unit to power all my speakers. While an amp would obviously be better, this unit has more than enough power to drive these speakers. I matched the rear MM461p, with a set of MM5251 components in the front. I just wished I could have fit some MM6501s in the front door panels, to get slightly more front mid-bass, since I don't have a Sub! The MM series speakers are in my opinion some of the best mid-priced speakers Polk has ever made. Unlike Infinity or even Mb Quart speakers, all Polk MMs offer a very warm sound (lower frequencies), therefore not having a sub is not the end of the world! I was so happy with these, that I installed MM6501s (Front) and MM651s (Rear) in my other car!
