July 9, 2012 good for the price

Usability
It's a nice unit, but the programming isn't so great. For some reason when you put the unit on random song to play files on a usb drive it will only shuffle if you let the song finish by it's self. if you try to scan and shuffle it just goes to the next song on the list. might as well just put a dang cd in.

Other than little issues like that it's a good unit.

October 31, 2011 An OK Stereo

There is no way this is a $299 stereo before being reduced to $99 - it is definitely a budget stereo. This stereo feels borderline cheap/ adequate and little more.

The sound is slightly better than the OEM stereo it replaced. Definitely not audiophile quality, but acceptable on a budget. The volume doesn't go very loud, but is OK. The FM reception is weak (verses the OEM) and makes a static humming sound. This is my first MP3 playing stereo and I really do like being able to put an MP3 CD or USB stick into the unit. That function works great.

The buttons on the unit feel extremely cheap and I only hope they have good durability. Some of the functions work strange. The volume button increases very slowly, so you have to turn and turn to get any loudness. And the time is displayed only momentarily on the display (annoying).

One of the main reasons I bought this stereo was theft deterrence. And I definitely don't expect anyone wanting to steal this unit. All in all, an OK stereo, but I sort of wish I would have bought something better.

Good quality as always from eclipse. Very basic tho. Main complaints are not major but just annoying. One is the clock is not the main display and button has to be pressed to view temporarily. Second is cannot easily select song from playlist on iphone while it is plugged in, haved to unplug it to navigate ipod. And last complaint is having to pay 100 dollars for wiring adapters to install in newer chevy work van. Overall i think it is a reliable unit though.

I will recommend this product I was looking for a OEM looking and MP3 + iPod capabilities and it meets both.

Pros: OEM looking prevent to be stolen, iPod control, Mp3, two different dash colors.

Cons: Does not have a Scan button for radio stations, it does not include a manual, when you connect the iPod cable it takes total control of the ipod and you can not change the music from it. Change the music from stereo is not easy specially if you were driving.
It is prepared for a remote control that is not included and I did not find it in Sonix store.
And finally do not expect to much output power.

This head unit has quite a few features, but is a bit cumbersome in use. The unit also came with no instructions on how to use the features, so it was a learning experience... Display is very bland, but it sounds pretty good and it works. It's an OK, inexpensive double-din radio/CD/iPod replacement unit.

July 2, 2010 Sound quality leaves something to be desired...

I can't stand flashy head units which scream aftermarket, so this one fit the bill. It looked like it came with my car. Installation was a snap, thanks to the free kit provided by Sonic. At first I was totally in love with this thing; the interface was simple and intuitive and it had a ton of features. Unfortunately, the sound quality was miles below the factory Delco head unit it replaced. When I first heard it, it sounded like someone had replaced my sound system with a cheap boom-box. The bass was punchy and the mids were overblown. I think 'hollow' is the best word to describe the sound. I was able to tweak the EQ and get it to sound richer. But still, there's a lot to be desired in the bass department. I've since put my Delco back in. I REALLY wanted to like the Eclipse, it had everything I wanted. But I just can't get over the sound. Maybe I was expecting too much from a head unit this cheap. Oh well, lesson learned. Back to square one.
