I bought 2 of these, one for my car, a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse with a Jensen VM9314 head unit, and one for my girlfriends 1996 Ford Mustang with a Boss BV9999BI head unit. It works great with both so as far as it being universal, it truly is. So long as you have a single RCA input for the camera it will be good to go.
For the install of both cars I t-tapped the camera pos. and neg. wires into the backup lights pos. and grnd. wires at the tail light. This way the camera only powers on when the car is in reverse only. I ran the RCA cable to the head units and plugged it in. It was that simple. I gave 3 stars on durability only because it’s been installed for 2 days. It claims to be waterproof and feels solid, so we will see. I waterproofed the connections so theoretically it should be fine. It works great for day and night, and the distance meter works great. I have no complaints.
