I've had the lava lamp for 6 months now and it hasn't worked properly once. I'm pretty sure that the bulb that came with the lamp is too hot, but the lower watt bulb I was able to get to fit from my local hardware store seems to not be hot enough. I still use it as a lamp, but the effect is totally useless.
