I totally recommend the Scosche SPL100F Sound meter as it is very accurate and strong. Have been using it for a while now and have not experienced any issue with it. Pretty good stuff.

I thought this meter was reading correct 'til this punk at my school scored 1 db under me with 112 and about 200 watts RMS.
Turns out, I was metering 123ish, and in reality with a real SPL meter, I was metering 138

I wouldn't say it is a 'great' meter, but it suffices for what I needed to do. I use it to check levels of a church auditorium PA system after making modifications to our sound system. This gives me some assurance that the sound level used in our normal worship service is going to be about the same after making modifications.
The buttons are a little 'loud' and pressing the button to make it hold on MAX makes the meter jump to 54db or so... so it isn't so good if you are wanting something in very quiet conditions. If you are in the 60+db range it seems to work fine. It also doesn't seem to be very 'fast', and a quick/short loud burst may not register quite right. But, hey, if you are just wanting to know the ballpark sound level...this works. If you want something more accurate...this isn't it.

I use it to suggest adequate (not too loud as in public movie theatre) sound level in a movie theatre of old age people. A good tool.

Our band needed to monitor our decibel levels, in order to be consistant from song to song. We also didn't want to be uncomfortably loud for the audience, and to save our ears. This meter was not very expensive, and really does the trick. It has worked out perfectly.

I am quite pleased with the SPL1000F. I actually use it in both my occupations: in my project studio for mixing/mastering, and at my job as a police supervisor, where I use it to monitor noise and sound complaints as to their validity.

Cheap works great had no problems with it. The light sensor for the back lighting is amazingly accurate. Not sure of the db reading accuracy. At least seams to be in the ballpark.
