In-Dash Receiver Specifications

Receiver Size

Single DIN: 1 DIN dimensions will work with all single DIN installation kits we have to offer. Single DIN radios are the most common size for after-market stereos.

Single DIN slot with flip-out screen: The DIN stereo includes a retractable, flip-out screen. Before purchasing, make measurements to be sure there is no interference with dash accessories such as A/C vents or shift levers.

Single DIN slot with a larger face: Standard single DIN size, but the display is larger then the standard single DIN size. Due to the nature of the larger face, problems may arise when installing in particular vehicles. These stereos are great for single DIN slots where you want a larger screen.

1.5 DIN: This size is very uncommon in vehicles, however this size opening is most commonly found in Chrysler and Chevrolet vehicles.

Double DIN: Approximately 4-inches in height, this size is becoming more common every year. Prior to 2000, this size was typically only found in Japanese vehicles such as those made by Honda or Toyota. Now, it is becoming more popular for many vehicles to be fit with a Double DIN opening.

Double DIN
Motorized Faceplate
Some in-dash car stereos feature a motorized faceplate that moves to expose a CD or DVD slot. This is a convenient feature that allows the front display to be larger and easier to read. The positioning of the monitor gives you control over the angle you would like to view information on the stereo.
No
Remote Control
Allows control of specific features and functions from a remote control. Typically they are used to prevent button wear on your radio, or to allow easier navigation of menus.
Yes
Peak Power Output
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage occurring. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent, or low bass hit.

Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

50 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power Output
The amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS rating, the louder and cleaner your music sounds. The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.
22 watts x 4 channels
Preamp RCA Outputs
RCA outputs, commonly known as preamp outputs, allow you to connect one or sometimes multiple external amplifiers. An in-dash receiver will commonly have one, two or three sets of RCA outputs that can be used to connect external amplifiers and other components. One pair of RCA outputs will typically provide a full range signal that can be used for most subwoofer or speaker amplifiers. Two pairs of RCA outputs can typically be configured as four full range signals, or also as two full range and two subwoofer signals. Three sets of RCA outputs will almost always produce four speaker signals and two subwoofer signals for use with multiple amplifiers.
3 Pairs (Front, Rear, and Subwoofer)
Dedicated Subwoofer Preamp RCA Output
A dedicated output that has a built-in low-pass crossover for specific connection to a subwoofer amplifier that powers a low frequency driver, typically a subwoofer.
Yes
Preamp Voltage
The preamp output rating is measured in volts (V). The higher the rating, the stronger the signal. This results in less unwanted noise being picked up.
4 volts
Built-In Equalizer
The number of graphic or parametric equalizer bands the stereo receiver is equipped with. The more EQ options, the more you will be able to adjust your music to your liking.
13-band graphic equalizer
Display Type
The type of display on your receiver refers to the monitor that is used to display the source information such as song names, radio stations, or track times.

Dot-Matrix Text Display: A simple display which uses dots in specific illuminated color(s) to light up and form letters or numbers that are displayed on the receiver.

Graphic or Motion Display: Typically found in mid to high-end receivers and give your text information and receiver more life by adding motion, backgrounds, or multiple colors to your display. There are types of graphic displays such as 3D Graphic, Motion, and OEL (Organic Electroluminescent) displays. They can range from one color to full color displays and typically allow you to select from one of many built-in animations, background images, screensavers or other graphics to enhance your experience and add an extra bit of personality to your system. Some units also come with software that allow you to load your own customizable pictures or animations.

LCD Monitor Display: Can be as small as 2" or as large as 10". Some LCD displays are motorized for angle adjustment. LCD monitors display full motion video playback as well as your standard text such as track status, radio station information and more depending on the receiver's features.

TFT-LCD Monitor
Display Color
The display color refers to the color of the text and or graphics on the receiver.

Multi-Color: When more than one color is on the display, for example one part of the text is white, while the other part is blue.

Variable-Color: The display colors can be changed by the user. If the default color of text/display is blue for example, the user can change the settings to where the color turns to red. Variable color displays are typically described in detail in the item's description.

TFT-LCD Display: In-dash receivers with a video screen that display multiple colors and often times video such as DVD, navigation or other video sources.

Full Color
Button Color
Refers to the color of the physical buttons on the unit.
Variable
CD Signal-to-Noise
CD Signal-to-Noise Ratio is a key specification that is often overlooked by newbies. The CD S/N Ratio measures how well the CD player silences background noise. Higher ratings in decibels (dB) indicates less noise, and generally a cleaner signal.
91 dB
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Additional Audio/Video Inputs
These inputs enable the unit to receive an audio or video signal from a separate source. There are many different types of connections and ways to accomplish this. Most common are RCA Composite cables and 3.5mm mini-jack plugs.

RCA Composite Inputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

3.5mm
This is commonly referred to as a mini-jack or a headphone jack. It is a 3.5mm plug that transfers audio only. There is a right and left audio channel on the plug which allows for stereo sound playback.

3.5mm AV Input
These plugs look similar to the common 3.5mm mini-jack, however they carry a third channel dedicated for video.

Optional
This means that an auxiliary input is possible, but only with the use of an optional accessory. These optional adapters will sometimes use the CD Changer port or other port on the back of a unit that might restrict the use of other expandability features. These accessories are typically sold separately.

Great Stereo

November 29, 2016

I just recently had this stereo installed in my wife' s Sequoia, and all I can say is wow. Now my wife is loving her stereo again and we're actually caught up to the 21st century. The touchscreen is very responsive and the features can't be beat for this price. I also got this stereo for its bluetooth capabilities, HD radio features, backup camera input and the option to change the background colors (which my wife loved).

Pros:
- Intuitive touchscreen display
- Bluetooth capability
- HD radio
- Backup camera input
- Availability to change background colors (for the wife)

Cons:
- Ease of use (can be distracting while driving trying to use some of the stereo's touchscreen functions)

Awesome Functionality at a Great Price!

November 1, 2016

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this unit. With the various amenities (blue tooth, music streaming, HD radio, Equalizer), this unit has proven to be Awesome! Fairly easy installation, HD radio is extremely clear and deep, and all functions work as advertised. This unit is actually more intuitive, and works better than the system in my 2015 Honda!

Awesome radio. Love it.

October 20, 2016

I bought this for my brother. I own the 5800 model in this series. It's pretty much identical except for the screen is a bit smaller, the buttons are on the left side and the face doesn't slide down for the optical disc. Works exactly the same and has the same features other wise from what I can tell. Great EQ and sound processing. Nice touch screen.

This is my first time owning a touch screen headunit and I'm glad I choose this one.The review on this don't lie as this touch screen is very user friendly.I have this running my 1 hdc3 12 and to my factory amp.The sound quality is amazing and the 13 band ep q is great.I choose is mostly for the 4vold pre outs and eq.You will not be disappointed.Sonic eletornix had them the cheapest I've seen so far. Also make sure you buy a bypass off ebay so you can use the Blutooth settings. It's just easy to do that then to tap into the parking break.

AWESOME

October 6, 2016

This radio connects to the I-phone 6 flawlessly every time, no issues to note. Best reason I bought this radio is for the ability to use the WASE navigation app on the radio. I find when I type in the address and then plug my phone into the radio it works perfectly. I have some quirks if I try to do it the other way. I plan on buying a second radio to put in my other vehicle because of the WASE app ability. I thought this radio was very easy to install in my 2004 Toyota 4 runner. Lots of instruction on you tube.

Best radio I've ever had

August 11, 2016

Screen resolution is great. Touch screen is very responsive. Menu is easy to navigate. And it's not expensive. You save money by skipping the navigation, but you could always use your smartphone or you can connect this radio to your phone and use pioneers navigation from your phone. I love the Pandora radio and so do my kids. I would buy again. Only feature I wish it had was dual zone but it wasn't worth the extra cost for me, so no fault of the manufacturer. I wanted a radio that was non-motorized and I think I made a great choice.

The Pioneer AVH-X3800BHS

June 10, 2016

excellent head unit for me, I really wanted the head unit for the hands free blue tooth, works great. I also bought a I simple medialinx and a Kenwood cac3av cable and a hdmi cable to plug into the aux jack in the back of head unit and a hdmi to lighting apple plug, now I get to watch live TV, Netflix or what ever you want and get turn by turn nav through the iphone I put this head unit in my 2003 ford focus that we tow behind our motor home,I use the front camera for loading the car onto the tow dolly and the rear for backing up, but if you would like you can keep the front on all the time or the rear camera all the time. Many more features lone it

Great Radio

April 24, 2016

This radio works great and looks good. The only problem I had was with the wiring harness, would not direct fit my 2004 hyundai tiburon. You had to mess around and repin the harness or splice the blue and white striped wire for the amp to the corresponding wire in the original harness.

Perfect Match for our 2004 Mercury Marauder

March 29, 2016

We wanted a unit that would fill the opening in the dash and have HD FM Radio capability. We also wanted a unit that would drive our built in Sub-Woofer that came with the vehicle and provide steering wheel button control. The Pioneer fill our requirements. This Pioneer Product Sounds every bit as good as the Original Ford AM/FM/Cassette/CD/CD Changer made by Alpine whose AM/FM section ceased to function with only 30,000 miles on the car. We have steering wheel button control via the AXXESS ASWC-1 unit. We were able to get all speakers and sub-woofer connected via the Metra 70-5521. The mounting kit, Metra 95-5817, worked perfectly and the Pioneer looks right at Home in our Mercury Marauder Dash. It also was able to light up Green like the rest of our dash instruments. The Pioneer Sounds every bit as good or Better than the original Ford Premium unit. We would highly recommend this Pioneer product. Years ago we installed the Pioneer single din units in one of our vehicles back when they advertised their Super Tuner III. Pioneer makes very fine stereo units for our cars.

John Islas of Sonic Electronix was very helpful with selecting all the Products we required in order to make our installation as complete and easy as possible.

Good price and reviews.

Needed 2-DIN and wanted HD Radio for my 2010 Odyssey. It came down to this unit and the Kenwood Excelon DDX593. I found fewer negative reviews on the Pioneer as compared to the Kenwood -- particularly in regards to the screen brightness in daylight and/or direct sun.

Is there a size difference other than screen size between this unit and the AVH-X4800BS?
A shopper on Apr 29, 2016
Best Answer: The X3800BHS has HD Radio built in, the X4800BS does not.

Is this display fixed or motorized?
A shopper on Jan 20, 2016
Best Answer: The display is fixed. The loading slot is along the top. I looked at the the 5800 series, which has the motorized screen. Was concerned about longevity with the moving parts. Although the 5800 has a slightly bigger display, the 3800 is already a large display. No loss there.

Can you screen mirror from an iPhone to pull in waze or Netflix for example?
j b on Aug 8, 2016
Best Answer: No, you can't screen mirror . But if you download the pioneer app, and plug your phone into the head unit , you can pull up GPS. But my experience with the maps wasn't that great . So I still just use my phone

can i use the mic and rear camera on my 2012 kla soul?
A shopper on Sep 14, 2016
Best Answer: Those capabilities are provided by the unit itself, not by the vehicle. If the unit is connected to the speakers correctly, and the mic is installed, it will mute the radio and carry the far-end party's conversation over the speakers. Mic performance may vary with placement in the vehicle; there are also gain adjustments for it in the radio settings. As for the rear camera, provided it is installed correctly, the head unit will switch to the display either automatically, when the vehicle is placed in reverse, or on-demand, via a toggle on the head unit (e.g.; you can use it no matter what gear the vehicle is in, even while driving).

can my factory dvd player be hooked unto this unit?
Dean M on Aug 14, 2016
Best Answer: This unit already has a DVD player built in. If your factory DVD player has RCA outputs, yes you can connect to the AV input on the back of the unit. If you don't have RCA out puts, then you may need an adapter. Hooking up the factory DVD player defeats the purpose of having this unit unless you want 2 DVD players but you can only watch one at a time.

Can this work with the factory reverse camera on 2011 Chevy Tahoe?
Ricer X on Dec 7, 2016
Best Answer: Hi Leonard,

The headunit itself doesn't establish whether an OEM camera will be retained; that is up to the aftermarket harness available for that vehicle. Fortunately, there is such a harness. However, there is a bit more vehicle information needed. As such, we suggest giving our Sales Team a call at 1-877-289-7664 opt 1 .
