In-Dash Receiver Specifications

Receiver Size

Single DIN: 1 DIN dimensions will work with all single DIN installation kits we have to offer. Single DIN radios are the most common size for after-market stereos.

Single DIN slot with flip-out screen: The DIN stereo includes a retractable, flip-out screen. Before purchasing, make measurements to be sure there is no interference with dash accessories such as A/C vents or shift levers.

Single DIN slot with a larger face: Standard single DIN size, but the display is larger then the standard single DIN size. Due to the nature of the larger face, problems may arise when installing in particular vehicles. These stereos are great for single DIN slots where you want a larger screen.

1.5 DIN: This size is very uncommon in vehicles, however this size opening is most commonly found in Chrysler and Chevrolet vehicles.

Double DIN: Approximately 4-inches in height, this size is becoming more common every year. Prior to 2000, this size was typically only found in Japanese vehicles such as those made by Honda or Toyota. Now, it is becoming more popular for many vehicles to be fit with a Double DIN opening.

Double DIN
Remote Control
Allows control of specific features and functions from a remote control. Typically they are used to prevent button wear on your radio, or to allow easier navigation of menus.
Yes
Peak Power Output
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage occurring. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent, or low bass hit.

Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

50 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power Output
The amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS rating, the louder and cleaner your music sounds. The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.
22 watts x 4 channels
Preamp RCA Outputs
RCA outputs, commonly known as preamp outputs, allow you to connect one or sometimes multiple external amplifiers. An in-dash receiver will commonly have one, two or three sets of RCA outputs that can be used to connect external amplifiers and other components. One pair of RCA outputs will typically provide a full range signal that can be used for most subwoofer or speaker amplifiers. Two pairs of RCA outputs can typically be configured as four full range signals, or also as two full range and two subwoofer signals. Three sets of RCA outputs will almost always produce four speaker signals and two subwoofer signals for use with multiple amplifiers.
3 Pairs (Front, Rear, and Subwoofer)
Dedicated Subwoofer Preamp RCA Output
A dedicated output that has a built-in low-pass crossover for specific connection to a subwoofer amplifier that powers a low frequency driver, typically a subwoofer.
Yes
Preamp Voltage
The preamp output rating is measured in volts (V). The higher the rating, the stronger the signal. This results in less unwanted noise being picked up.
4 volts
Built-In Equalizer
The number of graphic or parametric equalizer bands the stereo receiver is equipped with. The more EQ options, the more you will be able to adjust your music to your liking.
13-band graphic equalizer
Display Type
The type of display on your receiver refers to the monitor that is used to display the source information such as song names, radio stations, or track times.

Dot-Matrix Text Display: A simple display which uses dots in specific illuminated color(s) to light up and form letters or numbers that are displayed on the receiver.

Graphic or Motion Display: Typically found in mid to high-end receivers and give your text information and receiver more life by adding motion, backgrounds, or multiple colors to your display. There are types of graphic displays such as 3D Graphic, Motion, and OEL (Organic Electroluminescent) displays. They can range from one color to full color displays and typically allow you to select from one of many built-in animations, background images, screensavers or other graphics to enhance your experience and add an extra bit of personality to your system. Some units also come with software that allow you to load your own customizable pictures or animations.

LCD Monitor Display: Can be as small as 2" or as large as 10". Some LCD displays are motorized for angle adjustment. LCD monitors display full motion video playback as well as your standard text such as track status, radio station information and more depending on the receiver's features.

TFT-LCD Monitor
Display Color
The display color refers to the color of the text and or graphics on the receiver.

Multi-Color: When more than one color is on the display, for example one part of the text is white, while the other part is blue.

Variable-Color: The display colors can be changed by the user. If the default color of text/display is blue for example, the user can change the settings to where the color turns to red. Variable color displays are typically described in detail in the item's description.

TFT-LCD Display: In-dash receivers with a video screen that display multiple colors and often times video such as DVD, navigation or other video sources.

Full Color
Button Color
Refers to the color of the physical buttons on the unit.
Variable
CD Signal-to-Noise
CD Signal-to-Noise Ratio is a key specification that is often overlooked by newbies. The CD S/N Ratio measures how well the CD player silences background noise. Higher ratings in decibels (dB) indicates less noise, and generally a cleaner signal.
91 dB
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Additional Audio/Video Inputs
These inputs enable the unit to receive an audio or video signal from a separate source. There are many different types of connections and ways to accomplish this. Most common are RCA Composite cables and 3.5mm mini-jack plugs.

RCA Composite Inputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

3.5mm
This is commonly referred to as a mini-jack or a headphone jack. It is a 3.5mm plug that transfers audio only. There is a right and left audio channel on the plug which allows for stereo sound playback.

3.5mm AV Input
These plugs look similar to the common 3.5mm mini-jack, however they carry a third channel dedicated for video.

Optional
This means that an auxiliary input is possible, but only with the use of an optional accessory. These optional adapters will sometimes use the CD Changer port or other port on the back of a unit that might restrict the use of other expandability features. These accessories are typically sold separately.

All around great headunit.

January 18, 2016

This head unit replaced an Kenwood double din. Kept the same amps, speakers, and reverse camera.

The sound is so much better. I used the built in auto equalization using the Pioneer mic and 5 minutes later my system sound night and day better. I spent a lot of time with REW adjusting the 3 band parametic and the Kenwood along with the amp gains and I could nowhere near this sound.

The screen on this thing is awesome. It is even better than the AHV-5700 I have in another car.

`Nice upgrade

January 25, 2016

Best part of this radio is that you can have two bluetooth devices connected at the same time. I can still receive calls and my daughter can still play her music. Now that's cool!

This is the one to get!

February 16, 2016

So, I did a ton of research before purchasing a new Head Unit for my 2013 Honda Civic Si. Some of the Kenwoods looked nice, but really liked the equalization options on the Pioneers. So, after narrowing down that far, I had all but decided on a Pioneer 4100NEX because it has Android Auto (I'm an Android guy) and a big thing for me was to be able to use Spotify on the radio itself (like actually be able to go through my playlists and stations). Well, then I came across this new AVH-x5800BHS, which says for ANDROID devices, you can control Spotify over Bluetooth with the built-in Spotify button/source. So, I made the purchase and got it professionally installed. IMPORTANT: The Spotify over Bluetooth feature does not work until you get it home and do a firmware update! I freaked out because it wasn't working and finally realized the latest firmware introduces that feature.

Overall, this is a great Head Unit with no flaws that I have found yet! HD Radio, Spotify, Pandora, DVD, great equalization options, very nice touch screen with great brightness (I believe they used the touchscreen from the NEX models on this one).

Definitely recommend!

Love it. Way better than Kenwood

September 17, 2016

Bought the Kenwood 573 model with the same features and hated it. It was slow, bad FM HD reception, quirky iPod connections and bad sound.
The PIONEER is Soooo much better. Fast, much better HD reception, better and smoother sound and fast operation. Its 100% better than the Kenwood

Good, Not Quite Great

March 6, 2016

This is overall a pretty good head unit. Sound quality is great, the interface is mostly very easy to use and navigate. I love the FLAC support and the wide range of video formats. However, there are a couple issues with the overall usability and functionality which are so aggravating, they border on deal breaker.

1.) AppRadio is a terribly designed product. The interface is not very intuitive, and often there are issue getting it started. The app requires that you install a separate keyboard on your smartphone in order to function properly. This keyboard is app is so bad, that I have to switch my default keyboard settings everytime I want to plug and unplug the phone. The map/nav part of AppRadio is horrible. It can't find anything by name. Has to be exact addresses only. It says it pulls it's information from Google, but it was unable to locate certain locations of stores. When I unplugged my phone and just searched in Google Maps it found the places instantly. Very annoying.

2.) Issues when using thumbdrive—The single most annoying aspect of this head unit is that, when in shuffle mode, you can't go 'back' on a track. It's so ridiculous.

3.) Bluetooth is very clunky with my Android Phone.

Great stereo

November 15, 2016

Bought this stereo to replace a Kenwood. The Kenwood stereo stop working two weeks before the warranty ended. I want to thank Sonic Electronix for honoring the warranty. This stereo has a checkered button that when you press it you can make it play music from your phone or call someone without going threw your phone book. You can also send a text all with one touch of a button. I reviewed many stereos to find the features and quality I was looking for the stereo is awesome. Great 7 inch screen very easy to use and for the price it'one of the best stereos out there. Highly recommend.

For 300 bucks- you just can't beat it.
Cons- does not use apple play.
- the app usage is a little wonky- but you won't die.
Pros- plenty of power if you're looking for more sound. Replaced my stock Honda Element and now the sub actually sings.
- Bluetooth
- hands free
- tons of settings to choose from
- I can use the waze app on my phone and it appears in full screen

Excellent Head Unit!!!!!

September 17, 2016

Purchased this radio for bluetooth capacity, and the ability to listen to a DVD bible, since dcd is less discs. Got a great price from Sonic like always, the the head unit looks, and works great. Did not get the proper double din faceplate, but like always Sonic owns up to their customer service and sent me the faceplate super fast and free. Been doing business with Sonic for over 5 years and will continue to do so. They have great people with a large array of knowledge and experience. Thank you Sonic Electronix for your great products, and customer service

I put this unit in my 2000 Silverado. The touch screen looks and works great. The dual camera inputs are nice. I would suggest getting a micro bypass if you have kids so you can play DVDs while driving

Does this in-dash unit AVH-X5800BHS have Navigational system ,Steering Wheel Control capability, ?
A shopper on Mar 10, 2016
Best Answer: the dash kit for my car..allows for steering wheel controls..as for Nav..I did the research..no after market stereo is worth the hassel...get a phone cradle..and use google maps...but this radio does have Nav capabilitiy..for an extra $$$$...its just not worth it..in my opinion

Your specifications indicate it has DVDs/CD playback. But, specs indicate unit does not hack a motorized screen. Question how are DVDs/CDs loaded?
A shopper on Jan 21, 2016
Best Answer: It does have a motorized screen. Not sure where it says that it doesn't. You can absolutely insert discs. And the unit allows you to tilt the screen to several different angles. Bought this exact model 2 weeks ago and I love it.

I have a 2005 tahoe LT with the bose and onstar i recently bought this radio with the harness module.. my question is will my factory xm radio antenna hook up directly to this unit the AVH-X5800BHS or would i still have to buy the xm radio accessories?
EVAN P on Jul 2, 2016
Best Answer: Hi Evan,

You have two options. The first being that you can go with a harness that allows you to retain your OEM Satellite Antenna. However, naturally, this harness is more expensive AND you lose your rear Auxiliary Input (whether you use 3.5mm or the RCA is your call.)

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_61857_PAC-RadioPro-RP5-GM31.html

The second option, and the one we recommend, is going with the SiriusXM SXV300v1, because it'll save you money in the long run And will integrate far easier.

I own a 2013 subaru impreza WRX It has 6 speakers( 2 small ones in the top of the door). will this work with all 6 or do i need a 6 channel? also what do i need for a steering wheel control>? thanks!
Jonathan H on May 9, 2016
Best Answer: Hello Jonathan,

There stereo does not establish compatibility with the vehicle, the Harness does. Of which, the site will provide for you. If you have questions about this harness or want to confirm that it is the one for your vehicle, give our sales team a call. As for the Steering Wheel Controls, that information is in the description.
