The XM-604M amplifiers afford incredible installation flexibility and packs quite a punch. ZR amplifiers offer tremendous value including convenience features such as: modern cosmetics, selectable cross-overs, multiple channel configurations and singe-side electrical connections to suit almost any application; such applications also include cars and other non-marine installs. Whether the XM-604M makes its home on a boat, in a trunk or side by side the amplifier will perform beyond expectations.
A direct connection (High-level Input) can be made with the speaker output of your receiver if the unit is not equipped with RCA line outputs. High Level Sensing power on feature allows the unit to be activated without the need for remote turn on connections. For headunits that do have RCA preouts, the Sony XM-604M provides traditional RCA inputs for the easiest, most convenient connection.
The Sony XM-604M features gold-plated Screws, Terminals and Connections. Gold is preferred because it does not oxidize and is very conductive. Moreover, because gold does not oxidize, it keeps its conductive properties for longer than other materials and does Not corrode over time. Its this conductive property that makes such a connection perfect for seamless audio transfer.

Over 2 years old and still rocks the boat
Have had this amp in our boat on fresh water for just over 2 years. We are out every weekend and a couple days a week too. The amp is covered form most of the weather but had been through many storms and has got wet and has never failed. We use 1 deep cycle battery and can be cranking out the toons all day and in to the night with out having to start the eng.
Sounds great we love it.

Very good small unit, installed on a 21ft bay boat with small console, great setup with Ipod integration and enough power to drive four speakers well. I would recommend this unit.

I am running 4 kicker 6.5" speakers down to 2 ohm off the the front channels of the amp and 2 kicker 10" 8ohm down to 4 ohm off the rear channels of the amp and the power and clarity is exceptional.

found this helpful.good for basics
Well it would be good for a basic system in a fishing boat but it does not have enough power for the sony 10's but it does power the 6.5s great and the built in cross overs work well but not for the big speakers even brigded it still is bairly enough for the 10s to work ok. Would buy but its not as much power as it says! I bought 2 amps 2 10" subs and 8 6.5 all sony seem to be great just the amps. Power is over rated but works great for everything else!!

After getting my boat with the factory head unit and speakers in it, I opted for sony's marine unit to add capability to the boat for using ipods-sirius-mp3 discs etc. That went great, as I could use many new modern devices, but the sound was terrible with my 2 little 25 watt RMS speakers. So then I dropped in some new polk (100 watt RMS) speakers. Much better sound but now the head unit couldn't push enough power to the speakers and the unit would start to clip the sound at higher volumes as it struggled to try and keep up. So to cure this I opted for this amp. Now I have what I consider great, clean, clear, crisp sound at very loud levels without any distortion. Now I am not the biggest audiophile out there and this is my first install of head units, speakers and amps but it is all very clear and easy to understand and do. I guess now my next move will to be to buy a sub woofer to run off the amp and then to buy a wakeboard tower and install some more speakers and then buy another amp to run those and then buy the remote commander for the stern etc...But seriously this amp so improved the overall sound and capabilities of my system that it is now something you want to use and listen to.

Good amp. I'm not pushing anything too massive but it sounds good. It is bigger than I expected. I did not look at the dimensions before purchasing. I barely had room to put it where I wanted it in the boat. High and Low bypasses are a little annoying just because the are on specific channels rather than being able to choose. I think the low is on the front channel and the high on the rear. It did not seem to match with how I wanted to run the balance through the head unit so I turned them off, but it works as advertised. Not a flashy looking amp you will probably want to hide it somewhere. If you want flashy look or lights look elsewhere. All marine amps should be six channel, but this one does what it advertises.
