This speaker has extremely clear highs and upper-mids. The distortion starts to come in the lower-mids and the lows, but only at high volumes, which of course is suspected of a 4" speaker. BUT, these speakers have, by far, the clearest and most powerful lows I have heard out of a 4" speaker. They aren't booming bass if that's what you want, but they are definately depth and body to the sound. They handle Classical music like no man's land, they handle Country pretty good, except for when the volume is pretty high, the bassline tends to get a bit in the way of good sound. They handle Rock ok, but Rock tends to have a bit of a bassline that they can't handle all that well. They, however, can not handle hip hop, seeing as how hip hop is all about the bass. They do definately add a whole lot of body to the sound, and these are hands down the third best 4" speakers I've listened to, and I've listened to tons, including thousands of dollar component Focal speakers.
