Best Answer: Hello,

As you have noticed by now, you are going to get very different replies. This is due to the fact that you haven't provide enough detailed information to provide a solid uniform answer. " 1 12 inch p3 " is only a description; It's great that we know the size and series, but what model is it?
The 500X1D is commonly matched up with one Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12 ; so if That is the model you are referring to, then we say go for it! =]

For future inquiries, please make sure to provide a proper Model Number, not just a description. This is so you can be given accurate answers.

I have a 1968 C-10 Truck and are running a custom autosound with 300 Watts Peak featuring 2 Channel RCA Auxiliary Input for Satellite etc, 4 Channel RCA Pre-outs and Subwoofer Line out w/Level and x-over Adjustments with (2) 6in Pioneer Speaker 120 watt speakers, w/ (2) 200 watt 8" woofer and 2 Piezo tweeters and a 40 watt Dash Mount Speaker. Also, i'm running (2) 10" sub woofers, What amp would you recommend or would i run multiple ones. I've seen a lot of people recommending the Rocksford Fosgate Punch 300 series with this radio. Can you help?

Best Answer: I would need your equipment specs (speaker RMS wattage,IMPEDENCE, model, manufacturer ) this R500xd in question is a mono amp meant only for subwoofers. If you use this for your two tens depending on final impedance of the two tens then this amp is plenty powerful for your build. If you would like further recommendations from me please ask! Hope this helps. Birth sheet on amp was 678 watts if I remember right, plus it's really small which is awesome

could this amp power 1 10 inch p3 at 2 ohms healthy? this amp does 500 rms and the sub is 500 rms 1000 watt max will it be healthy for the subwoofer?
A shopper on Nov 16, 2014
Best Answer: Yes peak numers really does not matter its rms that is important you want to send the same rms from the amp as sub although for the best peformance you want to give it some head room and send about 10-15% above rms to the sub . Rockford fosgate always underates there amps even the prime series so this would work very well for you set up .

i have 2 10 inch subs i got from some old home tower speakers they are both 8 ohms if i ran 2 sets of speaker wire from the amp to both of them would it harm the amp? or if i just ran one?
A shopper on Nov 12, 2014
Best Answer: The Fosgate R500X1D is rated at 300W X 1 @ 4 Ohms and 500W X 1 @ 2 Ohms. The reason it is 300W X1 and 500W X 1 is that this is a mono amp which only has one channel. With your (2) 8 ohm speakers you will be able to achieve a 4 Ohm load on the amp by taking the positive lead from each speaker and wiring them to the positive lead on the amp and by taking the negative lead from each speaker and wiring them to the negative lead on the amp. This is called parallel wiring and the formula is as follows:

Rtotal = (R1R2) / (R1+R2), so in your case (8*8) / (8+8) = 64 / 16 = 4

Do a Google search on car audio sub wiring and you should come up with all kinds of good reading.

Hope that helps.

Absolutely; you just will not be able to adjust the Gain/Level 'on the fly'. You can regain that feature by picking up a Universal Remote Level Control like the NVX XBRC;

what is the max power rating wired at 2ohms?
Michael H on Aug 24, 2014
Best Answer: Hey Michael this is Caleb N. glad I could help . This sub is rated at 500 watts rms which is continous power . Rockford amps are underated so it will push alittle more then that . A tip I would give is make sure the subs you are running are 2ohm stable also make sure to give the speakers about 10-20% over rms you want to give speakers head room when you are wanting to crank it up not the bare minimum .

Will this amp power my two 300 watt 2 ohm 12 inch kicker subwoofers?
JGrocks18 on Apr 11, 2015
Best Answer: Yes, if they are single voice coil then the amp should be pushing more than 300rms at 4 ohm. If you have the dual voice coil wired to 2 ohm then you will have plenty of head room for more. I know the power rating for this amp are underrated. Mine came with a birth sheet claiming 639 RMS at 2 ohm.

I got a kicker comp r 12" sub to go with this amp. The sub says its a 2 ohm sub, but the switch on it only has 1 or 4 ohms to select. Which setting should it be on?
A shopper on Apr 2, 2015
Best Answer: Hello,

Stephen has provided the best answer. Assuming you only have One subwoofer, then you MUST put the switch to 4ohms. Switching over to 1ohm WILL damage the amplifier. Also, the sub does NOT "say its a 2ohm sub", it likely says DUAL-2ohm. Unfortunately, you may want to consider changing out the subwoofer for the Dual-4ohm, to get the proper figures you seek. If you've purchased these products from us recently, give our sales team a call for help.

kenneth on Jan 3, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Kenneth,

For future inquiries, its important that you specify the exact model number of the subs. Your description can literally one of two current models, and one of NUMEROUS previous models. All the answers you are getting will be wrong and detrimental to your setup if you are implying any model that is not the Rockford Fosgate P2D2-8 . Please make sure you go with two Rockford Fosgate P2D2-8 . The Rockford Fosgate P2D2-8 wired in series/parallel will give you a 2ohm final load, making it a PERFECT match for the R500.

if I have 2 2ohm subs hooked to this will it give 250 watts rms to both channels??
A shopper on Dec 17, 2014
Best Answer: In short no. This is a mono block amp which means it only has one channel. If you were to connect both of your 2 ohm subs to it you would have to wire them in series which would produce a 4 ohm load at which the amp only makes 300 watts which would be 150 watts per speaker. If you wired them in parallel it would produce a 1 ohm load which will most likely mean the amp will spend the majority of the time if not all in protect mode.

Rockford Fosgate R500X1D
Rockford Fosgate R2D2-12
Rockford Fosgate R2D2-12
Best Answer: This would be perfect, and will do absolutely no harm to the subs as it is split. In a system like this it is best to match your RMS rather than go above it which will not only limit your power capabilities but also over stress your amp due to running 100% all the time pending the type of music. It is easier to tune down rather than overrun everything else to meet power requirements...

Shaun G on Dec 16, 2015
Best Answer: Hi Shaun,

This amplifier doesn't require very much power to perform well, therefore a capacitor will likely not be needed.

Also, you cannot "bridge" an amplifier to a set of subwoofers. Silly semantics, but we want to make sure you communicate with the community with the appropriate jargon. =]

The Dual-4ohm , wired in parallel to a 2ohm load, would be the proper match. However, Rockford Fosgate does suggest that the subwoofer can work well with 300W - which is what your driver would get, wired in Series to 4ohms - but clearly this wouldn't be the 'optimum' power .

Best Answer: The amp would have enough power if the subwoofers were a different impedance. The subwoofers are have dual 4 ohm voice coils, this can be intimidating to someone who is new to car audio. Simply put, when you connect the subs to the amp, the subs will be wired to 1 ohm (so will speak in a 1 ohm language) where that amp will put out 500 watts at 2 ohms. So what you will need is either two dual 2 ohm subs or two single 4 ohm subs. I would suggest these subs http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_64264_Kicker-40CWD122-CompD122.html wired in 2 ohm.

If you need help with the wiring, feel free to use sonic electronix wiring diagrams http://knowledge.sonicelectronix.com/tools/subwoofer-wiring/

As far as the box goes, it's a nice box but it's a little small for you. These subs require 1.75-2.25 cubic ft per sub in a ported box and ported boxes are better when they're built specifically for a subwoofer. I would suggest this sealed box instead. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_33909_Atrend-12DQ.html

For a wiring kit, I suggest this one. And you can save a few bucks on it when you buy it with the rockford amp. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_86031_Belva-BAK42BK-Black.html

A shopper on Mar 26, 2015
Best Answer: Hello,

Unfortunately, you won't get accurate enough information to answer your question, because you did not provide the information we need. A description of the subwoofer isn't going to help, unfortunately. You managed to omit the important part of the description, the Configuration. Assuming your drivers are Dual-2ohm , then wiring them to a 2ohm load is perfectly fine, because the amp will provide ~250w RMS to Each.

A shopper on Mar 19, 2016
Best Answer: Any amplifier will get hot after long periods of play time. Your electrical is something you should keep in mind when adding amplifiers etc. This is a great amplifier, however I don't have all the information needed to answer the question fully. Need to know what subs you are using etc. Read the RMS ratings per ohm load with the amplifier and match that to the RMS of the sub/subs. I.E. 500 watts RMS on one 10 that can handle 500 watts RMS , or 2 10's that are 250 watts RMS each . This amp is capable of handling a 1 ohm load.

- I am running a 2ohm sub to a 2ohm mono amp can I just run both signal wires to both terminals without having to use the other side as well?

The Rockford Fosgate P3D2-12 is NOT a "2ohm sub" and the R500X1D is NOT a "2ohm amp" . The subwoofer is a DUAL-2ohm subwoofer and it is very important that you make that distinction. As for the amplifier, although it is Stable to as low at 2ohms that does NOT mean we call it a '2ohm amp'. As for the second part of your question, Absolutely Not! Doing so will deem the setup improper use and will void your warranty. We suggest the P3D4-12 if you want to run that amplifier.

I purchased this amp the other day. The problem is that it's only putting out a small amount of power. The amp before was some cheap 300w 2 channel Planet Audio mated to my 2ohm 400 rms Pioneer Premier sub. It hits good, but I wanted something a bit more punchy. Im currently running 8 gauge walmart power and ground through my car. I connected my new RF to everything and the blue light turned on. However it was putting out a very small amount of voltage. The ground and all fuses are good. My guess is that it need 4 gauge instead of 8?

*Tested with my friends system running 4 gauge, it worked great when that happened.
Travis S on Oct 12, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Travis,

There is absolutely no doubt that 8 Gauge of cheap discount wiring is not going to provide enough juice to a proper amplifier, like the R500X1D . We, and Rockford Fosgate, highly suggest investing in wiring that matches the performances of the amplifier; that is, 4 Gauge OFC wiring. However, this suggestion isn't implying that it is going to fix your problem. There are a few more variables involved, and you didn't provide enough information to touch them all. (it would be almost impossible to do so through this medium) .
Get back to us after you've upgraded your wiring, and please make sure to Then provide proper model numbers, not descriptions. For example, "2ohm 400 rms Pioneer Premier sub" can mean just about anything, and doesn't help us conclude that this is a compatible driver. In fact, if the driver is a Single-2ohm, it would Not have ran very well on a 2-Channel amplifier, but then you might mean something completely different...point is, we need a model number next time =]

Best Answer: They have similar (if not the same) specs in terms of power output.
The RF has a slightly smaller footprint (barely) than the alpine.
The RF includes a "remote punch level control" which is a knob to control the level of bass, alpine's equivalent (RUX-knob) is sold separately.
But it's always nice to have matching brands of subs and amplifiers.
The RF is cheaper too..
I have 2 MRV-M500s though and they haven't disappointed me at all.. Haven't seen the RF in action to judge
