Alpine always seems to be the richest, deepest, cleanest sounding subwoofers available for those that do not want to clear out their wallet. Very trustworthy and affordable brand.

My current sub needs to be replaced, Alpine SWR-1042D. Will the Alpine SWS-10D2 sub be a compatible replacement?
Chris L on Sep 27, 2015
Best Answer: That kind of depends on your existing setup. If you wanted to keep impedance the same as your current setup, you should consider the SWS-10D4 instead as it has dual 4 ohm voice coils (like the SWR-1042D) as opposed to the 10D2's dual 2 ohm voice coils.

If you are using a mono sub amplifier and you are only powering a single 2 ohm dual voice coil subwoofer, your only options for wiring it are 1 ohm and 4 ohm. If you have a 1 ohm stable amp and don't mind running it at 1 ohm, then yes, this sub will work, and it will receive more power than a 4 ohm dual voice coil sub in the same setup (which can be wired at either 2 or 8 ohms).

So as you can see, it depends on your amp and number of subs. I'd recommend doing a google search for "subwoofer wiring diagram" as you can select your number of subs and their configuration (i.e. 2 ohm DVC or 4 ohm DVC) and see what your options are for impedance given what type of amp you have.

I have a box that is .64 cubic feet but only 6.5 inches deep. Will this sub work good in it or is it to shallow?
Ed B on Aug 31, 2016
Best Answer: I think it should work. The depth of the subwoofer from the back of the face of the basket (where you put your screws in) to the very back of the magnet is 5 and 9/16 inches. So you should have enough clearance, but it won't be ideal. The recommended external box dimensions (per Alpine) for a sealed box are 12 inches x 12 inches x 10 inches and the recommended external dimensions for a vented box are 21.5 inches x 12 inches x 11.5 inches. So you should have enough room, it's just not going to be an ideal enclosure.
