Kappa: The Essence of Infinity

This Infinity Kappa 32.9cf is the essence and trademark of Infinity car audio. With all the high-end engineering and technology that goes into each Kappa speaker, you can be sure that you are receiving only the highest quality component. Made with a woven glass fiver woofer cone, which contributes to low cone flex, low distortion, and enhanced acoustic clarity. Due to the increased power handling of the Kappa series, the Kappa 32.9cf feature edge-driven MMD dome tweeters that allow for a seamless sonic integration between the tweeter and the mid-woofer. Using the latest in loudspeaker engineering, each of the crossovers has computer optimized voice-matched outboard passive crossovers for flawless performance.

Adjustable Tweeter Level

Each of the Kappa coaxial speakers, such as the Infinity Kappa 32.9cf feature adjustable tweeter level control. This switch will adjust the tweeters output by 3 dB. That simple tuning can make all the difference in your system and it ensures that your Kappa speakers will deliver exactly the sound that you are looking for.

True Four Ohm Technology

The engineers are Infinity have developed a speaker that works for all applications. The True Four Ohm Technology used in these speakers make it perfect for running directly of a headunit or with an aftermarket headunit and amplifier. All of the speakers in the Infinity Reference line feature a 2 ohm voice coil. However, when you factor in the small OEM speaker wire of most vehicles and the heating in the voice coil during use, the impedance actually seen by the amplifier will increase. Infinity has adjusted the speaker to be safely connected to any headunit.

Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
3-1/2"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
2-way
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Tweeter Size
Refers to the size of the tweeter. Typically, smaller tweeters produces less output with higher frequency response.
Tweeter Composition
Materials such as polypropylene, silk, cloth, and paper are the most common, where as many more recent tweeters are now manufactured with composites such as Aluminum, Titanium, Mylar, and other materials.

PEI is an acronym for "Polyetherimide" which is an amorphous, amber transparent, high-performance thermoplastic.

MMD (Metal Matrix Diaphragm)
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Woven Glass Fiber
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Rubber
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
105 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
35 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
92 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
85 - 25000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
2 ohms
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Yes
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
1-5/8"
Cutout Dimensions
Refers to the dimensions of the hole, measured in inches, required to contain the speaker.
Cutout Dimensions
Refers to the dimensions of the hole, measured in inches or millimeters, required to contain the speaker.
3-7/16" x 3-7/16"
Speaker Grilles
A grating or screen of metal or plastic bars or wires, mounted in front of a speaker as protection. If yes, the speakers will include matching speaker grilles. If no, there are no grilles included.
No

Ive owned these for a little over 3 years now. I have them in an 06 charger. If anyone with an LX car is looking for 3 1/2s look elsewhere. I only say that because two reasons. These are too tall to fit in the dash unless mounted beneath the dash which is an extreme pain in the you know what to do. Second, the connectors although nice and convenient are a problem for picking up some electronic noise from other devices with in the car which cause noises to be produced through the speaker. I only know this because it has taken lots of time to try to relocate the connector so that it would be far away from the source whatever and wherever it actually is. The connector cable is not long enough or ironically short enough to get rid of the noise. Otherwise these are a good speaker they do get loud and are fairly crisp. On another positive note they do handle the hot Florida sun quite well.

bulletproof produck

March 16, 2010

I bought these to use as dash speakers in a, dare I say, quite expensive system (about 5 grand). the entire infinity speaker line is a great product. The higher end products, such as these, are quite bulletproof, and have a great sound pressure, which is key for quality volume.

great speakers

February 2, 2010

i have an 88 monte carlo and these speakers have really improved my stereo. i have them hooked up to a jl audio 320watt 4 channel amp. the only con i have is that these speakers are pretty deep and i don't know about other people but these speakers were installed in my dash and i was not able to screw my speaker cover on my car because of how deep the speakers are. besides that, speakers are great for how small they are.

Nice!!

September 16, 2009

I currently have this set of speakers in my 08 Tundra mounted in the dash powered by a Soundstream Tarantula 2-channel amp. I have them crossed over at 500 hz. Let me tell you they sound fantastic. The high frequencies are very detailed and crisp. They play in perfect harmony with a set of Kappa 6.5" 3-ways mounted in the doors. Whether you listen to R&B or metal, you will not be dissapointed. Highly recommended!!

Amazing Little Speakers.

November 28, 2008

I have these in the dash of my 94 Cavalier driven by a GT720 Sony head unit, Kole 4 channel Amp and Infinity Kappa 6 x 9 's on rear deck . These Speakers are amazing! Build Quality is impressive, huge magnets and power handling. These speakers get loud easy , and will take a lot of power and stay crystal clear. They produce a lot more bass than i thought capable, the sound stage is large, open, detailed and very precise. I have a 4 channel 180 watt per channel rms amp, with a slight fade to the rear Kappas, and these things hang right with the Rears and stay crystal clear. If u demand pure quality sound, don't compromise. (Tip) always have more power than necessary, this will ensure clean power and maxamize a quality speaker.
