Kappa: The Essence of Infinity

This Infinity Kappa 682.9cf is the essence and trademark of Infinity car audio. With all the high-end engineering and technology that goes into each Kappa speaker, you will sure that you are receiving only the highest quality components. Made with a woven glass fiber woofer cone, which contributes to low cone flex, low distortion, and enhanced acoustic clarity. Due to the increased power handling of the Kappa series, the Kappa 682.9cf feature edge-driven MMD dome tweeters that allow for a seamless sonic integration between the tweeter and the mid-woofer. Using the latest in loudspeaker engineering, each of the crossovers has computer optimized voice-matched outboard passive crossovers for flawless performance.

Unipivot: Staging Made Easy

The Infinity 682.9cf features a patented Unipivot tweeter design that ensures proper imaging when the speakers are installed. With the tweeter capable of being moved, it is positional and rotational even after the final screw secures the speaker in the door. Since most speakers are installed low in the door, the Unipivot design brings the soundstage up to the listener for more accurate and enjoyable experience. Each of the Kappa coaxial speakers, such as the Infinity Kappa 682.9cf feature adjustable tweeter level control. This switch will adjust the tweeters output by 3 dB. That simple tuning can make all the difference in your system and it ensures that your Kappa speakers will deliver exactly the sound that you are looking for.

True Four Ohm Technology

The engineers at Infinity have developed a speaker that works for all applications. The True Four Ohm Technology used in these speakers make it perfect for running directly of a headunit or with an aftermarket headunit and amplifier. All of the speakers in the Infinity Reference line feature a 2 ohm voice coil. However, when you factor in the small OEM speaker wire of most vehicles and the heating in the voice coil during use, the impedance actually seen by the amplifier will increase. Infinity has adjusted the speaker to be safely connected to any headunit.

Great for the price

Bought these for my 2011 F150. They were a massive upgrade from the stock garbage Ford put in there. I'm only running them off of the factory stereo, and they are loud and clear enough to make your ears hurt.

Extremely pleased

To begin I will say that I'm not going to bore you with the technical aspect of these speakers. I have had these installed in my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT for several weeks, and have been very pleased with their performance. I listen to a wide variety of music (i.e. Metal, edm, rap, etc.), and they have handled them all very well. I have previously owned brands such as focal, boss, and pioneer. I have by far been the most pleased with these. Currently I am running these off the stock head unit (as I have failed to install my new kenwood stereo yet), with no amplifier. I have seen many reviews complaining about the external crossover (the large black box in the photos) being a hassle to arrange. I did not experience this issue. However, if you have these professionally installed then it should not be an issue. My advice is to Velcro it to the inside of your door frame, should you decide to do a self install, and just let it rest inside the speaker mount if yours is built in (as mine is). When I unboxed them after removing my door panel and factory speakers the original plug was a bit of a surprise. However, if you cut the plug off and strip the wires slightly, the wires install quite nicely into the crossover. All in all the speakers were easy to install, perform well, and fit nicely into both 6x8 and 5x7 mounts.

Bass-y replacement speakers.

These speakers were purchased to replace a front/back set of speakers in a 99 F-250 King Cab. The speakers are being driven by a JVC KD-R810 receiver.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_21996_JVC-KD-R810.html

The truck is like most trucks, noisy and hard on sound quality. I find these speakers to be "very" bass-y. Being bass-y is both good and bad as it's hard to find a balance between sound enhancing bass and sound distorting bass; overriding the treble.

I find the highs to be clean but the equalizer has to be carefully set so the bass-y nature of the speakers doesn't overwhelm the treble as I have old man ears (I'm 59) and typically, old men lose the highs in their hearing so the highs have to be boosted via the equalizer to compensate for this natural hearing loss.

Overall, I find these to be pricey but with a sensitivity of 94db, a response range of 40Hz - 25,000Hz, an impedance of only 2 Ohms with an adjustable tweeter, I find these speakers to be well designed and very efficient so as to assure you'll get the most out typically underpowered, in-dash receivers like the one I have.

A word to the wise, these are "STIFF" speakers to they will take some time to break-in and become flexible or responsive to the signal you're going be feeding them. You need to give them a hundred hours or so of play time before they'll loosen up and come into their own. Also, I like how well they're designed to deal with the affects of door water that typically leaks into the doorway.

Hope the above helps.

Great Deal!

I talked to a knowledgeable salesman who helped me find the right speakers to upgrade my stock speakers in my Mazda 3. They are Infinity 682.9cf speakers and they fit perfectly in the spot of the old ones just like he said they would-what a relieve not having to modify the old speaker housing. All in all it was a simple task and the sound is ten times better-yeah! Thanks Sonic!

good speakers

Ordered 2 sets for my 2011 F150, front and back doors. First, hooked them up on stock head unit with no amp, and they definitely sounded much better than the stock junk speakers. Since then, I have them hooked up to an amp running about 85watt RMS to each, and they sound even better. Had them for over a year now and no complaints.

Good for the Highs

These speakers are pretty good although I'm not sure if its the amp or maybe I don't have it adjusted right but these speakers do what they are designed to do I hear sounds and instruments I could not hear with factories installed A+

Good

These speakers sound great with an amp and the right HU. I would not recommend them for a factory stereo though. The highs are a little harsh, but they still sound good.

low price high performance

For the relative low price these things jam very good bass(FOR A 5/7)or speaker of this size, mids and highs are great as to be expected plus swiveling tweeter helps.II've had these at 100W rms for about four years now at high volume every day with no issues if they don't sound good to you it's your amp set-up or not tuned properly don't send 40htz to mid speakers.Use them for what they are designed to do and you will be happy happy happy!I would put these in same league as JLs and I love my 13W6' s it also adds function that they are 2ohms but don't putem on a head unit!
GET THESE paying more would be a waste of money you could put towards something else like proper wiring etc.
