MX-Series coaxial systems deliver excellent performance at a more affordable price than JL Audio's maximum-performance M-Series models.
CCX (Cockpit Coaxial) models have woofers specifically designed for infinite-baffle applications. This means that they are designed to operate without an enclosure. More specifically, the woofer design is optimized to operate with a large volume of air behind it (at least 2 cu. ft.). The bass response of the speaker will suffer significantly if placed in a small enclosure, so make sure your system is planned accordingly. The MX-Series is purpose-engineered and built for real marine duty and has been specifically designed to deliver maximum audio performance in any open-air boating environment. Although MX650-CCX Coaxial Systems can be used with as little as 20 W per channel, for best audio performance JL Audio recommends amplifiers capable of between 75 - 100 Watts of continuous power per channel, like the JL Audio M400/4.
A 0.75-inch pure silk dome tweeter handles the high-frequency duties. Silk has been chosen for its lightness, excellent damping properties and smooth response characteristics that ultimately result in extremely transparent crisp audio. You will appreciate the clean, articulate high-frequency response of the MX-Series dome tweeter, especially at higher volume levels. The tweeter is specially treated to withstand the harsh marine environment, and is optimized to provide sound that will cut through even the most demanding of those marine environments.
Specifically engineered polymer baskets are corrosion and UV-resistant and encapsulate the woofer's motor system to prevent corrosion. Also, the injection-molded mica-filled polypropylene cone bodies with synthetic rubber surrounds, are specifically formulated with UV inhibitors for marine duty and the synthetic fiber spiders, with progressive roll designs, are optimized to withstand high humidity . JL Audio utilizes Ultraviolet testing chambers (to simulate years of sun exposure) and Salt Fog chambers (to simulate years of exposure to salt-water environments) to ensure that the MX-Series not only sound great in your boat, but will also sound great for many, many years.

MX650-CCX-CG-WH (White with Classic Grilles)
Speakers are at best OK, not as good as the older style Infinity 6.5 602M speakers I had before.
The JL's are high for the money and need an amplifier for any volume at all. I have heard the OTHER 6.5" JL speaker is better (NON "X" in MX)--if spending the money I'd recommend them over these.

These speakers are of some of the best quality that I have ever owned. I work in the field as a marine tech and I have always known that jl audio are for the most part the best speakers around. Now that I own them I can personally confirm that!

Replacing Clarions that lasted over 5 years. The Clarion tweeters dry rotted, but the boat stays uncovered on saltwater year round. The mx650's have slightly more thump in bass, but otherwise basically same sound as Clarions. Not an exact bolt pattern match, but good enough where I didn't need any patchwork. Hoping to get same or longer use out of JL's. JL's have best grill available for a high performance speaker that looks great on a saltwater boat while not looking like it belongs on a 15 year old's wakeboard tower. Grill and speaker housing are built rugged and have withstood kicks and cooler bumps. So far after 6 months into it, this is a clear case of you get what you pay for, and I would definitely buy again.

Replaced the factory Clarions with these as part of a complete stereo makeover on a SeaRay sport yacht. Couldn't be happier. Solid and well built, rugged and dependable. In an open deck environment, the nuances of highs and lows are often lost, and I'm not the best audiophile, but the sound quality is vastly improved. A bit pricier than some alternatives, but they also have a reputation as the "go to" high end speakers for upscale marine environments so there is a little bit of admittedly shallow pride of ownership attached as well...and I don't have to defend a "no name great game" product.
