The Alpine NVE-P1 is a removable navigation system that docks directly to the IVA-W203 and IVA-W505. The unit is complete with North American map data including a variety of points-of-interest (POIs). Bluetooth functionality is also offered in addition to the GPS System. It can easily be updated to new mapping with the latest information using your home computer.
The Bluetooth features offers the same functions as would any Bluetooth headset. Just simply pair your cell phone for hands-free functionality. For easy calling, transfer your phonebook to the module and dial your contacts by their names. The NVE-P1 will provide a list of dialed calls, missed calls, and received calls (if supported by your phone). An external microphone is included for multiple placement ideas in your vehicle.
The navigation has clearly labeled menu options to find your way quickly. The map window provides all the information needed, such as the distance to your next maneuver, estimated time of arrival, and current street name. Customize the display to match your personality. There are four different screen colors to choose from.

I had a Garmin Nuvi and like the options better than the NVE-P1. The feature I miss the most is when you are searching for points of interests while driving, the NVE-P1 does not let you know which direction each POI is. Unless you are familiar with the area, you don't know if you're driving to or away from the POI. Garmin shows an arrow letting you know if the POI is on your way or not. Also Garmin scales closer when you are arriving at a turn or POI. The NVE-P1 allows you to change the map scale but does not allow automatic zooming. I like the NVE-P1 because it is integrated into my IVA-W505 and I don't have any loose wires I have to clean up every time I park.
Mine is asking for new maps which are not available from Alpine. It is a pain because the window that pops up is a little bigger and the "button" on the screen you need to push to get to the navigation page is mostly obscured by the physical edge of the screen.
