I am upgrading the wiring in my car in anticipation of a larger system. My existing powered sub takes 8AWG wire. I got these thinking that I could step the 4AWG I put in, down to 8AWG for the sub. Only the last little tip of the connector is 8AWG. The rest of the shaft is 4AWG. I compared it to the wire I had, and the shaft is the same diameter. It doesn't step at all until the last 1/4" of the adapter. It must work fine with their "Power Quip" items, as it's more of a quick disconnect than anything. It isn't functional as a reducer.
