JVC is changing audio again with an interesting new video receiver. The JVC KD-AVX77, also known as the El Kameleon, is bristling with unique features and styling that truly makes it everything but blend in. The built-in Bluetooth is a must have for safety and convenience, allowing users to make phone calls while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. JVC did not forget about iPods, using your USB-to-iPod cable you can play and charge your iPod from the unit, and with an additional accessory you can play video as well. The most interesting aspect of this unit is the 5.4” Ultra-wide full color touchscreen monitor with fully customizable graphic user interface. You can change colors, background pictures, and arrange the icons as you see fit which is true customization. The KD-AVX77 is also compatible with HD Radio and SIRIUS/XM Satellite radio for those who want to listen to high quality sound. I bought this about a month ago and works like a charm. The DVD plays great and the load time isn't that bad. The only thing I have to say is weird is that the bluetooth once in a while won't work right and I have to re-synce it. When I use the bluetooth for calls, it works great. When buying units like this and others you have to remember there not really set up for other phones, this unit many like it are made to work with iPhones. That's sad say but it's true. I the have Epic 4 and seems to work well with it for the most part. The iPod cable works great, but I have to agree with others on this, it could have a little more for controls. The price on the unit is good, bought this one because I heard bad things about flip outs and I did have a flip out and I had some issues with mine, but some of my friends have them or did and they told me that gears can go bad or they just stop working all together. I don't like to have the headache so I went with this one. I would tell any one to buy this. I know others that have this headunit and we all love it, but I paid a lot less than they did, because of Sonic.

found this helpful.Great 1 DIN touchscreen deck!!!
I had a requirement for a 1 DIN deck with very clean lines and a lot of features. Some to highlight are:
-Clean touch screen interface
-DVD with dual zone capability (can play a DVD for the kids while listening to anything but a cd thru the main speakers)
-Bluetooth phone and ability to play music thru iPhone 3G or 4
-video/audio out for a drop down screen or other video device.
Some nice features:
-touch anywhere on screen to answer a call
-charge any low voltage USB device
-volume up and down by moving finger in circular motion on screen (like old iPod)
-remote control for video when in dual zone mode. Works for main deck in single zone mode
-you can preview and watch video on the deck screen even when listening to music. Great for making sure a video is on for the kids in the back.
Drawbacks
-cannot play anything using USB interface when in dual zone mode???
-needs a steering wheel remote
-very occasionally does not connect to Bluetooth device correctly. It does have a noticeable delay when connecting normally but this seems to be the case in my factory BMW system as well.
Overall a great deck better than any factory system I have seen.

I bought this head unit for not just its huge array of features, but also because it was capable of matching the red-orange backlighting of my BMW E36. The AVX77 has everything I could want in a single-DIN DVD player with no flip-out monitor, and the level of customization, while not deep, is enough to make it look right at home in any car.
Unfortunately, there is a durability problem that is exacerbated by the fact that my unit was factory refurbished. My AVX77 was great for the first few days after it was installed, and I enjoyed it immensely. After those few days, though, I could hit a minor bump that would cause the screen to turn off momentarily. The music would keep playing, but it was somewhat inconvenient to have the screen cycle through its startup sequence every few minutes or so. I was chewing over whether or not I should bother sending this thing in for warranty work when the screen just quit and wouldn't come back. I scoured the internet for some advice, but the only information I could find was that others agree that as this head unit ages, the screen contacts do seem to come loose, causing the screen to power off and on intermittently.
I'd also like to point out that, because this was a factory refurbished item, it did have evidence of being used. The screen looked brand new, but the main part of the unit had a bevy of scratches, and some marring where it looked like somebody had tried to pry the unit out of their dashboard with a flathead screwdriver. The remote had an extraordinarily high amount of scratches on it, and the cheap AA batteries came pre-installed (doesn't this present a corrosion-control issue?). I realize that the vendor -- Sonic Electronix -- isn't responsible for refurbished units that JVC sends over, so I can't blame them. But for the amount of money I paid, I would have expected at least a new remote.
Sonic Electronix was gracious enough to honor their warranty policy and grant me a store credit, but now that I'd like to buy the same unit again, they marked up the price by $20 and it's out of stock. Guess I'll wait for it to come in...
