Why Choose Kicker DX Amplifiers:

Kicker Always Exceeds Rated Power

Kicker Performance Audio has been around since 1980 and has been producing amazing products since then. Kicker’s drive to consistently produce products that not only are great but also push the standards of the car audio industry is very apparent in all series of their amplifiers. All Kicker amplifiers are CEA-2006 Compliant, assuring you are receiving a continuous certified RMS power rating. Kicker will always exceed the rated power because Kicker is notorious for under rating their amplifiers. So really you will be getting more power than you actually pay for, which is not true for other lower end performance amplifiers that generally over rate their amplifiers. Kicker amplifiers will provide a choice of three automatic turn-on modes; remote, DC offset, or signal sense, which make them compatible with any car audio system. Along with their high-density convection heat sink for extreme heat dissipation and high efficiency MOSFET power supply, Kickers amplifiers are great way to go when selecting the perfect amplifier for your car audio system.

Kicker FIT Fail Safe Integration Technology

Kicker Fail Safe Technology (FIT):

Kicker has manufactured a new Fail-Safe Integration (FIT) technology into all of their amplifiers. The FIT technology uses isolated differential inputs in order to reject noise or electrical interferences, caused by engines, alternators or any other audio or video component throughout your vehicle. The differential inputs will use a muting circuit that will block out any additional noise that may stream down the line. The FIT technology will help created the cleanest and purest sound possible for any audio system. The Kicker FIT technology is setting the standard for high quality sound.

Power Specifications - Subwoofer Channel

RMS Power @ 4 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 4 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
550 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 2 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
1000 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 1 ohm
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 1 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
Not Stable
Peak Power Output
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent or low bass hit. Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison. This is the peak power output for the amplifier's 5th channel.

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.
1 - Mono
Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

1000 watts
Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.
4 AWG
Minimum Impedance Unbridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is not bridged.
2 ohms
Minimum Impedance Bridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is bridged.
Not Bridgeable
THD at Rated RMS Power
The amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified. A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp. THD below 0.10% is inaudible.
1%
Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.
Yes
Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.
1 pair
Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

50 - 200 Hz
Subsonic Filter
Allows you to block (filter) ultra-low frequencies that your subs cannot reproduce.
10 - 30 Hz
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
This spec compares the strength of the signal to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise.
95 dB
Bass Boost
The objective of the bass boost is to get more kick out of your subwoofer. It is a circuit that emphasizes the lower frequencies at a given point. The bass boost should always be set first before setting the gain. This feature is known for destroying subwoofers and is commonly used incorrectly, so be cautious.
0 - 12 dB
Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.
Yes
Fan Cooled
A great feature to have if an amp generates a large amount of heat. Cooling fans can help regulate the temperature to prevent the amp from overheating (burning).
No
Fuse Rating
The amperage and the number of fuse(s) an amp requires.
100A x 1
Strappable
Some amplifiers can be "strapped" together in order to increase the output of a single audio channel. These amplifiers feature RCA preamp outputs, allowing you to pass the signal directly from one amp to the other to ensure consistency.
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Yes
Sonic Certified Amplifier
Sonic Certified amplifiers have been tested by the experts at Sonic Electronix to meet or exceed the wattage ratings provided by the manufacturer. If this is marked as Yes, then you can trust the wattage ratings. If marked as No, then we have tested the amplifier and it did not meet the advertised wattage ratings. If marked as Not Tested, then the Sonic Electronix experts have not yet been able to test the amp.

Sweet Box

September 17, 2013

Great sub for when you need bass in a tight spot. We installed two of these under the seats/storage areas of a 2013 Malibu 23' Wakesetter to give a little added bass hit and they worked out great! We drove the pair of these boxes with a Kicker 1000 watt Mono Amp and they hit hard and sound good. Very tight sealed box, bass that is accurate.

Revision- Crappy amo

August 10, 2013

Revision for comment below.. Ended up pushing 2 Kicker cvr 15's with it and out of nowhere like the guy mentioned before me, it just randomly went into protect mode. It has come out but when a good bass note hits, it will go right back to protect. Great sound quality and power output while it lasted, but i posted my initial review on this amp in april. for a $300 amp for only 1000 watts rms this amp is an absolute rip-off. Don't mess up and get this amp.

Amazing Amp

April 19, 2013

I am currently pushing one old school eminence 15 and 2 CVR 12's with it, and it is pushing ALL of it to it's limit!!!! Blown away by what this little thing will do. When I got it at first, and looked at the small footprint, i thought it wouldn't put out but maybe 500-600 watts rms. Boy was I wrong. This amp has shattered my expectations and is only getting better by the day. THE ONLY BAD SIDE, if you run this thing at 2ohms, you will most likely have to get a new battery, like i did. Optima Yellowtop does this amp right. Great amp, more than i expected, great buy!!!!!

Upgraded from a cruddy amp to this and was completely blown away by what my single CVR12 could do in my custom built box. Even got complimented by the audio guy who tuned the amp and my speakers to their full potential, I am absolutely amazed by this amp. Beat it hard and never got hot at all, can't say it was even warm!

much better then kenwood 9105d

June 18, 2012

I bought this amp when i upgraded from 2 12's to 4'12s. I had the kenwood 1800w 9105d amp before and it cut off daily even in winter time in Colorado. So i though id try the kicker. The two amps literally are side by side in the car and with the 30 day return policy i figured let the best amp win. Well i can feel when the kenwood cuts off but the kicker keeps on playing even on 100 degree days here in Colorado, so id say the kicker wins, and its about 2/3s the size of the kenwood. It's even a tiny bit smaller than my Alpine 400 watt 4 channel amp 4 door and 6x9's!!! From experience id reccomend this amp to anyone who needs this power range. Cant wait for the price to come down on here to replace the kenwood once and for all!!! Hope this helps someone!

i was upset...but....

February 2, 2012

I got this amp to replace an Audiopipe apsm1300, i had it at 2ohm for 600wrms. My sub is an mb quart pwe354 @2ohms, this sub is 800wrms, so i wanted to give it atleast 1000wrms. I got the kicker, when i first hooked it up it did not even move the sub. I was UPSET! I had to jack the gain to 10 out of 11 to even hear the sub, i knew some subs have a break-in period but not amps... the next day after ensuring everything was hooked up right and having kicker rep say take it back, this thing KICKS!! I looked inside to make sure amp was ok, and it looks goood. I still have amp gain almost maxxed out, but i use the remote bass knob. It blends well with the factory installed boston acoustic system in my 08 dodge caliber, makes that 15" mb sound great. Yes, if you need a thousand watts and need it to be small, get this amp. Period. I thought I might need to replace it with another amp, but I am gonna keep the Kicker.

Great Amp!

November 3, 2011

I ordered my dx1000.1 from Sonic about 6 months ago. They by far have had the best price. I got it in a verry timely manner as always. The amp was actuallly certified at over 100w more than they claim. It's a great amp with a verry small footprint. I have it hooked to 2 12" cvt's at 2 ohms and it sounds great. Thanks Sonic. BTW I am a real person. Buy with confidence!

Great amp but not stable @ 1ohm

August 21, 2011

I was floating between 0.8 and 1.3 ohms and I didn't know that this amp isn't stable at anything below 2 ohms, it kept cutting out at medium volume, and I couldn't figure out why until I tested and then it made sense.

YUM

July 19, 2011

I like this amp alot, great for the size and price is worth it. I have had this amp for around a month or a bit more not sure.. I have since changed head units since my last post. I HAD to post again correcting and explaining a few things.. First, This amp was in my van under metal shelves (10-12" clearance) all day (24/7 Locksmith) around (6-8hrs daily) over 100mi a day. with no A/C. With nothing on the amp it would get a lil toasty at times, but now that i have a D/C fan to give it circulation the amp runs room temp at 3/4 gain on my L7. It hits in my van(00 Astro) to the point my face muscles are feeling the yum yums with my drivers window down and the compact ported at half port. My eyes of course jiggle, and my ears still from time to time like they are going in/out like a speaker. BEAST only neg BIG neg that i didnt know, is 4 guage leads and I want to do the big three and 0 guage all over.. My next amp will either be a ZX1000.1 KICKER, ZX1500.1, or.. hifonics. any advice would be apprieciated.

I had an MTX Thunder 2000/1000 on my Kicker L7 4ohm dvc @ 2ohm and the amp ran hott!! I tuned it down a bit and still over heated, partially because of placement in my van. I got this amp from B*** B** for quite a bit more but, hits a bit harder, 2/3 the size of the old amp and it has run hot on a few occasions of continious abuse (daily driver '1-3 hour sessions' around 100 mi a day) I dont run on full volume (35 plus vol offset 8 'would be 43) but typically loudest is 30 on my kenwood headunit normal around 22-26. Ported box @ 1000 rms (recomended only 750w rms) Great amp tho and when it runs hot it cools down after turn off in around 30 min
