Upgrade Your Factory Audio

If music is an important part of your life, then your car speakers should be too. The DS Series speakers by Kicker are a true phenomenon for the car audio industry. They are able to produce incredibly clear audio with little amounts of power. You can pair these speakers to almost any source unit such as a factory head-unit, aftermarket stereo or an amplifier. These speakers have heavy duty voice coils in order to withstand high temperatures. The dome tweeter design will produce a soft, warm, high-frequency sound that seamlessly blends with the mid-level sounds of the main driver. Look no further, because the Kicker DS65.2's are the perfect solution for upgrading the audio in your vehicle.

Speaker Specifications

Series
This is the manufacturer product line of speakers.
DS (Kicker)
Priced Per
Car Speakers are typically sold in pairs so you will receive 2 speakers for each speaker purchase on speakers marked "Priced Per Pair". If a speaker is marked "Priced Per Each" then the speaker is sold individually and each purchase you make will result in 1 speaker. High-powered tweeters, midrange and full-range pro audio for car speakers are typically sold per each speaker.
Pair
Speaker Size
Refers to the size of the speaker measured in inches. Every vehicle has standard application sizes. Please use our vehicle fitment guide for your vehicle's specific speaker sizes if you do not know them.
6-1/2"
Design
The number of individual drivers in a car speaker. Speakers with 2 drivers are known as a 2-way, and 3 drivers are known as a 3-way. Component systems are often referred to as "separates" because the tweeter is not attached to the midwoofer (main speaker driver) and mounts separately in a location such as a door post. Component systems typically come with an external crossover so you can easily adjust the high and low frequencies sent to both the midwoofer and the tweeter. Center channel speakers are great for those looking to have surround sound in their vehicle.
2-way Component System
Tweeter Design
Designs such as cone, dome, semi-dome, balanced dome, and whizzer are most popular. Cone tweeters are simple, efficient and typically are the most reasonably priced. Dome tweeters are used in most home speakers, and provide a smoother and more accurate sound. Semi-dome design is one with a dome placed inside a cone. A Balanced dome driver is a semi-dome with equal reproduction area given the cone and dome portions of the driver. A whizzer tweeter is a separate tweeter cone driven by the voice coil of the woofer.
Dome
Tweeter Composition
Materials such as polypropylene, silk, cloth, and paper are the most common, where as many more recent tweeters are now manufactured with composites such as Aluminum, Titanium, Mylar, and other materials.

PEI is an acronym for "Polyetherimide" which is an amorphous, amber transparent, high-performance thermoplastic.

Titanium
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Polypropylene
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Ribbed Poly-Foam
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
120 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
60 watts
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
90 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
43 - 20000 Hz
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Yes
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
1-13/16"
Cutout Dimensions
Refers to the dimensions of the hole, measured in inches or millimeters, required to contain the speaker.
5-1/2" x 5-1/2"
Speaker Grilles
A grating or screen of metal or plastic bars or wires, mounted in front of a speaker as protection. If yes, the speakers will include matching speaker grilles. If no, there are no grilles included.

the speakers deliver the sound I wanted good highs & mid range. They are driven by 50watts rms per channel. I would recommend them to others.

Great product, great price

September 17, 2013

Been using these for a few months now and couldn't be more happy. Super crisp and loud. Running these on a 4x75 Rockford amp. Kenwood head unit. Couldn't be happier. Very little bass on these speakers but they're 6.5s, not subs. I have a sub to handle bass

Good buy

August 11, 2013

Solid product. Good recommendation from Sonic rep over the phone. These Kickers replaced me stock/blown components in the front door panels. They sound very good. Kicker gives a clear and perhaps tiny sound but I later replaced my stock subwoofer in the rear and wow, the balance is great. Used a pioneer 8 inch and ran it off stock head unit with no extra amp. To my surprise the tahoe has a built in box for stock subwoofer.

Very Happy with these

July 14, 2012

Backround: I wanted to replace the speakers in my wife's car which is a '99 Honda Accord LX Sedan and wanted to spend the least amount possible for the best performance. I chose these because of reading other good reviews and I picked them up used for a very low price that I could not pass up. I'm going for true low budget car audio. The Install: Replaced factory front door dual-cones in a '99 Honda Accord LX driven by 15W per channel RMS built-in to the Kenwood head unit. Outer and inner door skins were completely covered in generic Dynamat super covering all openings to seal off the door. The woofer did NOT fit the factor speaker brackets by a hair - the 6" version DS60.2 would have dropped right in. So, I cut some mounting rings out of some 1/4" birch I had laying around and painted it with some multi-purpose sealer to keep it from disintegrating when it gets wet. I used 1/16" thick adhesive backed weatherstrip on the back of the woofers to seal them against the new mounting rings. The mounting rings are sealed against the door skin by 2 layers of the generic Dynamat super. I can't stress enough how important it is to properly mount and seal any woofer/mid when installing. Poor installation can make an expensive speaker sound like crap. The tweeters were mounted to the trim piece that covers the side mirror mounting nuts and wires. I used the surface mount angle cups and directed them as much as I could to the opposite side passengers head location. The crossovers are mounted with wire ties to an existing wiring harness on the inner door skin in an area that was under the armrest on the door panel. The Sound: With some tweaking of the crossover's high level switch, and the headunit's 3-band EQ & bass boost, the frequency response became surprisingly smooth. I tuned the EQ using a PA2 audio 1/3 octave analyzer, and then by ear though I probably would have reached similar results with just tuning by ear. The mid-bass is tight and deeper than most other 6.5" components systems I've installed, but not as deep as the old school Boston Acoustic 6.5Pros that I've had in a previous car, which I expected. The mids and highs are surprisingly detailed and dynamic. Overall, they sound outstanding for an entry-level component set. They are plenty loud using the head unit's power and get way too loud before distortion from clipping was heard. I really don't see a need to amp these as they seem to be very efficient. Summary: When I told my wife I was going to replace the speakers in her car she said "Why? It sounds fine to me." Now, after the install, she was blown away by the difference in sound quality. I definitely recommend these speakers. Now it's time to find some used 6x9s for the rear to get rid of the muddy lows the factory speakers produce.

Great speakers for the money. I've had many pairs of kickers over the years and they never disappoint. They come with lots of mounting options which is really nice. Nice set of components for not a lot of money.
