My husband has been DJ'ing electronic music for fun (mainly techno and tech house) for about 5 years now. His previous headphones were wearing out so I was looking for a new pair as a birthday gift. Discussions with other friends who DJ semi-professionally all recommended these headphones. The sound is crisp and clear and well-rounded - so much so that my husband would rather listen to the headphones when he's DJ'ing for me instead of the sound coming out of the speakers :) Some other reviews I'd read before purchasing these noted that the plastic joints have a tendency to break, but the ones I bought have been fine so far (granted it's only been in use for about a month). They are a little expensive but that is more a product of the Canada-US exchange rate.
Really easy purchase and fast delivery (about 1 week) from Sonic Electronix to Western Canada so I was very happy with that.

Well, I got these from sonicelectronix a month ago. Haven't owned any high range headphones before, but after listening to these, it has transformed the way how I listen to music now. These are really a great work of engineering in both build and sound quality.
Talking about dealing with sonicelectronix, it was good. Payment was fast and I got the cheapest deal on the internet (I spent one week finding that!). Another good thing was they delivered here in New Zealand. You won't believe how much they cost here...(that's 420USD!!).
Overall - I have to say well worth the money spent.
Value - They are like iphones, good resale value.
Look/Design - Very beautiful. The Pioneer Logo on the headband gives it a very professional look. Design is ergonomic.
Durability - Look durable but time will tell. Sturdy metal built, and i think Pioneer has tried to solve the problem of broken hinges in their newer production.
Features - Well the've got everything for the purpose they are meant for. Some people have said that it uses mini XLR port instead of the conventional one which is a monopoly tactic. Why? I think mini XLR holds the cable better than conventional one. In my opinion it also gives that audiophile factor to the output signal. But thats just me.
Ease of Use - Good. They got spring mechanism. Best thing is the earpads. Very comfortable as I had expected.
The only issue I have with these is that the cans are shallow. Your ears don't get enough room and sometimes they might touch the inner lining. Its a very minor issue though, you can always stuff little cotton beneath the earpads to create more room (as told on some headphone forum). This issue may be personal coz of my ear structure.

I've owned these HDJ's for 6 months now, and I absolutely love them. I listen to all different types of music and use these constantly, and the sound quality is great. I bought these after my old Bose headphones broke, and these pioneers exceed in every category. With my previous pairs of around ear headphones after a couple hours I would have to take them off. With the HDJs I frequently wear them for multiple hours while studying and almost forget they're there. Construction is very sturdy, they're heavy duty and have shown no wear with folding them consistently. If you're looking for some headphones with excessive bass, get the beats because these don't have that feature. They have a crisp and clear sound quality, and can handle some power to them (could probably benefit from buying a headphone amplifier). These are on the higher end of the price spectrum for headphones, especially if you're like me and are not using them for DJing or sound processing, but don't let the DJ classification turn you away from personal use. If you're looking for a quality pair of headphones you won't be disappointed. It'll be tough to find these for a better price than Sonic. The only complaint I have as far as features is that I had to buy a hard case for these; for this price I think a hard shell case could be thrown in to protect them while carrying around. But for people who aren't carrying them around a lot it won't be a big deal, definitely not a reason to overlook the overall almost all positives with these headphones.
