Sennheiser is a name that is synonymous with audiophile products. They have been viewed as a premium, top-tier (dare we say "The" top-tier?) brand since the beginning of time. Laboratorium Wennebostel's time that is. In 1945, Prof. Dr. Fritz Sennheiser founded Laboratorium Wennebostel's, or "Lab W" in a pleasant half-timbered house. Fritz Sennheiser was born with a gift. When he was 11 years old, he saw an early radio that inspired him to build a crystal radio. Again, he was 11 years old. There was no turning back from that day. The following year after founding "Lab W", Sennheiser produced his microphone. From that point on, it was one success story after the other. Sennheiser's technology continued to improve, and "The Bar" continued to rise. In the mid 60's, Sennheiser released the HD 414, the world's first "Open Headphones". That very day changed the future of headphones forever. That very same headphone, the HD 414, not only helped establish Sennheiser as a leading headphone manufacturer, but it sold over 10 million units. It is the best selling headphone of all time, and Sennheiser had just gotten started.

For those who arn't familar, Sennheiser is one of the most well respected headphone companys in the world. The hd-1 ii is a great set of closed back headphones. They isolate outside sound amazingly well, there for have been used by djs for many years. Some of the the world's most famous djs swear by them, not to mention they are ridiculously durable. If you notice, most sports announcers use a modified version of these headphone with a mic attatched due to their great sound isolation. They have a relativly balanced sound signature, solid bass and treble extension with great mids. Unlike many of today's headphones (beats for example) the hd-1 ii does not bloat the bass and in result the rest of the sound spectrum sounds great while still having bass impact. These headphones are about 80ohms, meaning they require about twice as much power to fully drive them, and so a headhone amplifier, although not completely needed, will help add "umph" to the set. These headphones may not be flashy but my advice is don't just buy into the flashy Beats by Dre trend. If you try out other headphones, even ones that cost half as much as beats, you should notice how over-rated the beats line really is.
