Kicker Solo-Baric L7 Subwoofers

Patented Square-Woofer Technology: Kicker Solo-Baric L7 Square Sub TechnologyThe Kicker Solo-Baric L7 woofers continue to be the best sub in their class. The patented square-woofer technology allows for 18% more cone, which translates to more bang for your buck compared to competing round subwoofers. All new for the 2011 series is a redesigned and improved SoloKon cone. The new beautiful look was inspired by the big brother SoloX series, and it's making everyone at Sonic go crazy as it's tougher looking and better-performing.

In addition to the SoloKon improvements, the new L7 woofers also provide a much easier installation. The solid pole piece allows more heat sink capabilities and perimeter venting is built into the spider landing unlike previous years. This also allows for a shallower installation as you no longer have to account for venting through the back of the magnet. To make things even easier on the installer, Kicker moved the binding post to the corners of the woofer allowing for an easier connection when running the subs in parallel or series.

Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
Solo-Baric L7 (Kicker)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
15"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
2000 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1000 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Dual
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
2 ohms
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
18 - 100 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
88.6 dB
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
16.1 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Square
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Black
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Titanium Deposit Impregnated Cone w/ Rolled Outer Edge
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Santoprene Rubber
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
Optional (Accessory required and sold separately)
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
No

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Sealed
Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.00 cubic feet
Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
6.00 cubic feet
Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
3.00 cubic feet
Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
6.00 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
8-11/16"
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
13-3/4" x 13-3/4""
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

fya a** sub

December 24, 2012

Wut up folks . This sub is the s***. I had it on a power akoustik gothic series 3000 watt amp wired to one ohm so rms it was pushin bout 1700 at 14.4 volts constant.I fried the amp within 3 months of having it. This thing would rattle my dads house from mine ( about two and a half blocks away) . He would call me telling me to turn my s*** off so they deffinatetly get loud and it is well worth the price cause all u need is one. I am waiting on the hifonics Brutus 1200 to come in now and can't wait.

PURE BEAST!!!

February 9, 2011

This sub is a pure monster. I'm feeding it 1500 watts RMS & it handles every bit of what I throw at it... I (unlike most) prefer the sound of a sealed box, so I was a bit concerned that this sub would not perform well in a SQ type install. I was wrong. This thing plays clean, tight & accurate Bass in my custom built 3.0 cubic foot sealed enclosure. Great Sub!

Mind Blowing.

July 22, 2011

First of all the price, yeah don't let the price bother you cause you'll be passing on a bad ass sub it is worth all that cash trust me. It took me several months just to buy it not cause i didn't have the money but wasn't sure it could hit them low notes but this sub proved me wrong and thats cause I am a rockford fosgate guy. Okay second of all the sound, damn i wish u could actually hear it you would buy it in a heart beat. Lets put it these way you can hear my kicker 15in l7 sub half a mile away yeah, i know half a mile away damn, and when iam jamming out in my drive way my house windows rattle, oh did i mention all this monster bass is just coming out of only one sub. Yeah thats right only one 15in kicker solo-baric l7 its just mind blowing, o before i go iam using a ported sub box 15l-18w-14d i made it my self, i'am pushing the kicker sub with a rockford fosgate 1500watts constance none stop power to give that sub all the power it needs. O make sure to dynamate you'r whole car or truck inside and i mean inside the whole trunk, floor panels and doors to stop that ugly rattling also the secret is using 0 gauge wire from the battery to your capacitor and from the capacitor to you'r amp 4 gauge. Make sure to get a good capacitor or you well kill you'r battery dead. And the other secret is in the head unit (radio) make sure the pre amp inputs are 4volts or higher the inputs are the ones you use for your front, rear and sub speakers like my headunit is 8volts but they are very rare to get. Well hope i was helpful do buy these sub tho you wont regert it.

I never would of thought with the right amp this sub pushes so much air. Definitely flexes your vehicle and makes loud rattles if you don't have dynomat. I would recommend this yes but I liked the L5 models better due to the shape of the base of the structure.

I have 2 of these on a ZX2500.1 in a 9 cf box tuned @ 31hz. Does 143-146 metered on music. Flexes your car easy, 3 inch roof flex, door & window flex. It snapped my rear view mirror off after 3 weeks. Sadly, one of the woofers blew today. While I was listening to music, they just started popping and smoke started coming out of the port.. I wasn't clipping the amp, my gains were set right, and bass boost was just a tad over half. But these subs POUND but seems like their durability isn't the best around.

Good sub

November 12, 2011

I previously ran this subwoofer in a prefab box with about 950rms going to it. It sounded ok and was able to hit 141.2 on the termlab, with no previous expierance with car audio ( this was my first system). I liked it at the time, but now have upgraded and much happier. After hearing a couple of differant systems, relized that this subwoofer just sounds ok, but it does get loud.

Makes my seats feel like a massage chair... its in a 4cu.ft box ported and tuned to 32hz with a Alpine 1000 v power amp.. turned up about 3/4 of the way up cause after that its way to loud... over all EXCELLENT sub. little expensive but you gotta pay to play.. well worth it.

Had L5s wanted the next best thing
Nathaniel E on Sep 2, 2014
i just recently purchased a hifonics brutus brx1516.1d and I wanted to pair it with a Kicker 15" L7. My question is i don't know which "OHM" of Kicker 15" L7 to buy (4OHM or 2OHM) my amplifier is "1 OHM Stable" and 1500 watts RMS at 1OHM and that is what "load" i would like to put on it. So do i purchase "one" kicker 15" L7 2 0hm and wire it parallel to amplifier achieve a 1 ohm load to get most power out of amplifier? I would appreciate any help or comments on how the best way to get the most power out of this amplifier and which 15" L7 to pair it with i have heard nothing but great things about the L7 series, and for this sub is ported or sealed box the way to go for loud bass?

Best Answer: Hello,

First, so we are on the same page, the drivers are DUAL-2ohm and DUAL-4ohm . This isn't silly semantics, as one can easily confuse what you are saying for a SINGLE-2ohm/4ohm driver, which completely changes the conversation.

To your point, you will require a Dual-2ohm, wired in parallel, to achieve a 1ohm load. However, we do not suggest this, and strongly advise against it. I don't mean to sound rude, I just want to make sure you protect your investment, but if you are not experienced with car audio, then you should attempt powering a 1000w driver with an amplifier that is potentially putting out ~1500w . Instead, my suggestion is going with the Dual-4ohm driver, wired to 2ohms, and staying within the range of the driver's handling. Unless you are absolutely sure that your installer can tune the setup right, and you are responsible enough to not drive the setup to its limits then go with the 1ohm system. =]

Everything on our website is BRAND New, unless clearly & specifically noted otherwise. With Kicker, in fact, we've been Authorized with for many years - your subwoofer would essentially arrive straight from their hands.

I have a Hiphonics BRX1400 1.D amp. Would you recommend I buy this single woofer in a dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm? I am only going to run 1 speaker.
stefan s on Apr 10, 2015
Best Answer: I would suggest the dual 2ohm as you amp support 1 ohm it allows you the most flexibility

Based on the sub I would give it as big a box as you can (up to the max recommend of course) I would also keep ventilation in mind as that may play a factor in running the amp in 1 ohm but would put you in the sweet spot for The subs RMS

Your amps listed specs
1 x 550 @ 4 Ohms, 1 x 1400 @ 1 Ohm

Just my two cents, hope it helps

can this speaker be hooked up at 2ohm for a kicker zx1500.1 amp that pushes 1500 at 2ohm?
leoanrd b on Aug 19, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Leonard,

Absolutely not. Without modification [not advisable] it is impossible to wire a Dual-2ohm Subwoofer to a 2ohm Final Load. You are obligated to wire UP to 4ohms or DOWN to 1ohm. The link below will give you a visual representation of that.

If you seek a 2ohm final load, then you must go with the Kicker Solo-Baric S15L74 [Dual-4ohm]. Of which, is NOT recommended to match with the Kicker ZX1500.1 - although done often - due to surpassing the S15L74 's power rating be well over 500w RMS.
