Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
Performance (Kenwood)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
12"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1200 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
400 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Single
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
34 - 300 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
85 dB
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
15.1 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Black
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Polypropylene
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Urethane
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
No
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
No

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Sealed
Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.25 cubic feet
Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.75 cubic feet
Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.0 cubic feet
Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.5 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
6-1/4"
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
11"
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Great Bang for Your Buck

September 5, 2013

I originally bought one of these Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subs with a Kenwood KAC-9105D, so I was wired at a 4 ohm load @ 500 Watts RMS. I was using a sealed box from Sonic. I soon decided to get the max out of my amp and bought another of these subs and a double sealed enclose from Sonic. Now wired at a 2 ohm load. These things pound. Considering theyíre rated for 400 Watts each and Iím pushing 900 Watts (Not bad though, thatís only 100 over Ė a pretty close match), they hold up nice. I havenít experienced any clipping. Theyíve handled everything Iíve thrown at them so far. How loud are they? Well, Iíve always liked to rate subs by things like; feeling the bass in your throat, moving your hair, tickling your nose, rattling mirrors, hurting your ears, etc. Iíve experienced all with these. My girlfriend said things in the house were rattling when I pulled up the other day. I donít know what was rattling or how bad, but I know you can hear it in the house and farther. This system does pound. Kenwood is on their game this day and age though. You really get your moneyís worth with them. I would definitely recommend these subs.

kenwood 12" subwoofer

October 12, 2012

Kenwood subwoofers are the way to get great sound for a cheap price. Dont like the price scare you away from these fantastic subs i have bought many pairs of these subs for not just myself but also for many of my friends and my friends friends. These subs work great with the 9105D 2 way amp 2400 watt max output and gives you a hell of a hit when the bass drops. I stand behind kenwoods products and i am a very satisfied installer and owner of kenwood products!!!!

Amazing!

July 12, 2012

I bought 2 of these subs 6 moths ago during the black Friday sale. I've had 3 amps power these subs at 2 ohms and they have never let me down! Everyone turns there head to the amount of bass these bad boys produce! I drive an 01 camaro and i have these in there own separate boxes with 500 watts rms, can anyone say free back massage?

Get them, you will not regret buying this, i promise you.

Amazing Bass!!!

Con's-
Maybe bulky-ness? This sub was too big to fit in my old box, so i had to put them in upside down.
Only problem is my system picks up engine noise, but thats not the subs fault.

i personally own 4 of these subs 2 are in a 2.5sq ft ported box in a 2007 jeep grand Cherokee with 2 MB Quart fx 1.400 amps at 400rms one amp for each sub and they sound amazing nice clean loud bass. then i have two of them in a 1985 ford ranger standard cab in a 2.14 sq ft sealed box behind the seat with a kenwood KAC-9105D powering them at roughly 450rms wired down to 2 ohms and they have cracked 2 back windows now and broke 3 rear view mirrors don't me scared by the price they are very under priced

Install in minimum 1.90 Cubic Foot PORTED box and you'll develop a permanent grin

February 27, 2012

Using a Kenwood KAC-7205 2 channel amp bridged to 1 channel for 500w x 1 RMS and a 2 farad DB Link cap. First started out with a 1.24 cubic feet sealed box and it hit hard. Very clean and responded great to several frequencies. Switched to a 1.93 Cubic Feet ported box and it sounds like I have 3 x 10's or 2 x 12's with no distortion. VERY IMPORTANT!! Use an online port length calculator to determine the correct size of your port. The wrong length will make a huge difference in sound. My slotted port opening is 4.75 tall by 2.5 wide and 11 inches long/deep. I have to show my friends it's only 1 sub before they believe me. Can't imagine what 2 of these would sound like.

Let me just start off like everyone else and say this is a good speaker for the price. I recently bought the kenwood package that came with the 2 12 KFC-w313s and a sealed box for 150, not a cent more. The shipping was free and only took 4 days. I got a 1200w planet audio mono runnin them at 2ohm 600rms and they already shake my mirrors, great price for clean deep bass.

Boom Goes The Dynamite!

March 13, 2015

Read other reviews on this product. Trying to find something that can compete with my old "Shaker" sub, until now! I currently have one and it being turned up not even a quarter on my headunit and halfway on my amp (still break in period for sub) shakes my Accord. If I get two will probably break some windows, or even just the one full power'd. This sub is a beast! Really pumps and is a great product! Out of the box you can tell this is one heck of a good time! Bass lovers enjoy!

Hands down, best sun for the price! Runnin 2 of these through a 900 watt kenwood amp, so 450 a piece in a 5.5^3 ported box @32hz. Hits 139db in my Buick. tight and accurate, huge low end, and keeps up with metal too. I swear by these. they are great in small boxes, ported, huge boxes, sealed, ect. at all power ranges. I've tried 300 rms, 400, 450, and 500 it eats it all day. I put a 3 on features, cause it only comes in 4 ohms, and there is no DVC for wiring.

My wife bought a pair of these in a bass package with a Kenwood kac-8105D amp and a sealed atrend enclosure and gave it to me for father's day last year. I have them installed in my 99 Toyota 4runner and they kick butt! They hit hard, sound great and haven't given me any problems. Been pounding out low deep bass every day for almost a year. amazing sub for price and all around

April 16, 2013

I have one of these with a 1.23 cf box and an alpine 300 watt class d on it and it hits harder, a lot harder than my 460 watt triple 10" mtx blue thunder box did. All sealed boxes... this sub makes my nose itch at 3/4 system volume with the gain about 1/10th from 0. If I could get this bass output with a smaller box that would be even better. I have put test tones through it that have melted many a voice coil, but this sub doesn't flinch.

Cheap, but great sound

August 30, 2012

I have been through many a subwoofer in my day. In recent history, I had a JBL sub that voice coils fell apart. I had a JL sub that lasted a few months before it came apart. I had a Boston Acoustic that just completely stopped making sound.

This Kenwood has outlasted most of those brands so far, and it sounds much louder and better bass than any one of the previous sub woofers. You cannot beat this speaker at this price anywhere.

missleading sub

April 20, 2012

this sub really isn't even as good as a kicker comp. The hugh magnet cover makes the sub look kind of beefy but once you take it off there isn't much left. if you want to see what your really getting look at the oldest model. In an appropriate sealed box these subs will last but in a big ported box they will eventually bottom out and blow out.

i bought two of these a few weeks back and have absolutely no regrets. i bought them to replace two 10s that i sold in the winter. I had no clue that they would BANG like they do. I wired them at 2 ohms. i paired them with a lanzar vector 3000.1 mono block. This amp, at 2 ohms, is rated at 2000 watts but obviously its not really true wattage so the subs are seeing around 1300 to 1400 watts. They vibrate my windshield wipers and my windows like CRAZY!!!!! I really think my trunk latch will break soon no joke. Get them you WILL NOT regret it.

I'm shaking other peoples cars. Today, I parked next to a jeep and shook its soft top on the side closest to me and the backside! November 26, 2011

They are good subs for the price, I was very pleased. However not even after 6 months of ownership one of the two i purchased has begun to blow. No bueno. And i'm not even begging to give them too much power, about 250 watts to each sub. So not a bad purchase, just wish they were a little more durable.

Kenwood 12"

January 12, 2014

I have always like ken wood systems decks and amps but never really was a fan of the subs. Well my Rockford p3 blew so I was looking for an affordable replacement, I thought I'd take a chance and it paid off. I'm very impressed with how this 12 hits. Definitely would recommend.

Good bang for the buck

December 24, 2013

I bought this KFC-W3013PS to replace one I had that had a rattle. I thought it was a bad sub but now I'm thinking it's fine but I'm going to sell it since I bought this other one. Anyway, I think that's not too unusual to run into a problem like that with subwoofers that you're pounding 900 watts through, plus I over tightened when installing in the original box and cracked the plastic ring, so that could have something to do with it. Anyway, these subs have handled everything I've threw at them so far and they sound awesome. I think you get a lot for the price with these. But since one of them have had that issue I did rate them a little lower. I would still recommend them though. If you want to spend the money then buy JL or something. If you want a good system for a reasonable price then buy these.

I have 2 of them hooked up to a gravity.7500 @ 2 ohm 900 watts rms. They hit hard and push some air too. But I did notice they smelled burnt for the first week and that's with my gains and bass boost down.there good for now .

These things sound great, I have two of them in a custom ported box I made with a power acoustik bamf 2000 and they really hit in my focus hatch. My buddy has 2 p2 punches and they sound just as good for a fraction of the cost! They really turn heads at school and for the sound quality you can't beat the price. Buy!!

I purchased this as a package with this enclosure:

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_951_Single-12-Sealed-MDF-Subwoofer-Enclosure-Belva-MDFS12.html

At around $100 it's a great value.

It is powered by a Sony Xplod 850W amp, and gives a nice wide range of performance and far superior to the 10" Xplod sub it replaced.

Powerful, yet tight and not boomy.

Top notch subwoofer

May 19, 2013

I have owned 3 of these speakers and none of them ever let me down. In the previous car I owned I had two 12" subs with a 1000 watt kenwood amp and it sounded great. The subs were used when I bought them and were about 1-2 years old but still sounded like new. I used them for about a year blasting music everyday and they still sounded new when I sold them along with the car. When I bought my new car I wanted some bass again so I went with another one of theses speakers. My current set up is one of these speakers and a 800 watt max amp and it sounds great in my hatchback. The speaker is super durable and sounds amazing. Nice clean loud hits with any type of music. I highly recommend this speaker over many other brands.

Great Sub!

March 9, 2013

This was my first sub. I put it in a sealed box because the sub doesn't get that low and wow do they sound amazing. This one sub shakes my car so hard and im waiting on another one that I ordered in the mail cause I wanted more volume out of it. I would recommend these subs to anyone who is starting off or is on a budget who wants bang for the buck and listens to a lot of different music. If you want to have your car flex like crazy or make hair tricks your better of saving some money and getting a 15" sub in a tuned box or 2 12" kickers, alpines, NXV, you know where im going with this its gonna cost you. But yeah the most important thing is to get a great amp to power these. I have an Alpine v12 (Mrd-m605) and it make my one bang hard cant wait for the second one to come.

Great Sound for a Great Price!

March 6, 2013

These subs are amazing I hooked them up in my car this past weekend and let me tell you they bang hard. I have them bridged and hooked up on the Kenwood 1800 watt KAC-9105D amp. These subs have a great sound for a low price. The bass is very clear with no distortion no matter how high the beat or how low. I am very satisfied with these subs and would purchase them again. I am a fan of kenwood and I must say they did a great job with these subs. Shoutout to sonicelectronix also for working with people like me who are on a buget and looking for a great sound. You guys are the best!

November 21, 2012

This is the first sub I ever owned, and I couldn't be happier with the high quality and durability it has given me. I started off with a single 3013ps as a Christmas gift last year, and added a second this summer. When paired with an able amplifier, these bad boys can make your ears ring (I have a Hifonics BRZ 1200.1D). My friends always want to ride with me because they are all in love with these subs! I've never had a problem with either sub, and have no idea how anyone could blow one of these LOL! While you won't win an SPL competition with these, I guarantee you WILL have the loudest and cleanest system at school/ work/ in the neighborhood..etc.

Don't be scared by the low price either!!! They are worth the money. Sonic, as always, has unbeatable prices!!!

AMAZING SUBS

June 13, 2012

These subs are amazing. I have them hooked up to a Hifonics 1000.1D, 1200RMS and they sound amazing. I replaced my 2 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch series 1 subs, 1000 watts altogether, and man what a HUGE difference. MY old subs didn't even give me a headache and after a while these do. The hit good deep bass and fade out on the high bass notes just how i like. For the price these are a must have! They're a steal!

So far (I've had the sub installed for about a week), this sub's performance has been surprisingly good. I did have high hopes, as it already has strong reviews - and I wasn't disappointed. I've had modest systems in the past, and this one blows them away. I have it in a factory-recommended 1.25 cu. ft. sealed box, and it sounds awesome (driven by an ATA 1200.2, part of a bass package from Sonic). I couldn't imagine having two of them in my truck.

Best bang for the buck!

January 29, 2012

I bought two of these 12" Kenwoods, for my son's toyota Celica, and paired them with a Hifonics Brutus BRZ1700.1D which is rated at 1200 watts rms at 2 ohm. These subs handle it with ease. I've been building systems since 1989 and have had some big systems, so I'm not easily impressed. They hit hard and deep enough to hurt my ears which isn't easy to do. Just remember don't go cheap on the amp, you can't have too much good clean power. It's when you ask too much from an amp when it starts distorting and clipping which will blow the best of subs. I'm running 600 watts a piece to these subs and they're only rated at 400. Just adjust the gain so they don't distort and you'll be good.

Heavy, Looks good, Sounds decent. I replaced 2 10" rockford R1S410s at 150 RMS a piece to two of these at 450 RMS a piece. Improvement over the 10s is marginal. Sounds good, takes some tweaking. Awesome Subs!

November 28, 2011

I bought these subs a few months ago and they still hit hard to this day! I have them in a very small box right now unfortunately but I will be making my own box soon tuned to 31 hz and giving them each 2.44 ft^3. I'm running them off of a Kenwood-KAC9105D amplifier and they are just astounding! I'm a huge fan of kenwood series subs and I definitely recommend these to anyone and everyone!

Never hear such quality or bass level from a $60 speakers. Had 2 in a dual 1.25 sealed box (each speaker). Powered w rockford fosgate 500w amp and they hit. These will work great esp if u have a rear that is inside the cab. Can't beat theses speakers for the price. I upgraded to two p3d4s-12 tho

You will not find a better sub in this range... i have these puppies on a audiopipe 1800 @ 2ohm and they sing. They are on the border of burning up... but never cross over. Kenwood is still a quality name. If you are in the budget range.. skip over that BOSS junk... Kenwood is the truth... look at all the reviews

Good Subs

February 10, 2014

These are very decent speakers for the money. They hit hard and can handle plenty of power. They don't play the low frequncies quite like I wish they would but they are good subs. Then again, they're in a sealed box and I may not have amp set up right. Overall sound is unbeatable though.

October 25, 2013

I recommend these 2013 Kenwood subs they are great for bass in a enclosed box for heavy pounding. They are also good in priceing and affordable, so get a Kenwood 12" or higher or lower they do make my trunk pound a whole lot of people say wow what u banging in your trunk they sound loud I tell them Kenwood and they are like wow Kenwood they sound like kickers they surprise me that they end up with the same model type Kenwood brand:

Kenwood is old school but these sub's are incredible, using 800 watt amp and these things thump, would not recommend the crunch amp package deal, this so called 1800 watt amp didn't even move the sub's, had to get another and went with a Kenwood to match sub's and NOW they are crazy sounding. Kenwood did there homework on these sub's!!!

Best Bang for Your Buck!

June 26, 2014

I've had two of these now for about a year and a half, and they are just as good as the day I first installed them in my 09 Hyundai Elantra. (probably a little better than when I first installed them because they're broken in now) What's nice about these, is first, CEA-2031 compliance on such an inexpensive sub. Next, is that its one way linear excursion is 15.1 mm, which you usually expect from SPL competition subs. Lastly, is that the rms power is in fact true. all these things I said I decided to buy a third one on Monday. I just finished building a dual front baffle sealed enclosure for them that has about 4.308 cu. ft. of airspace giving them 1.436 cu. ft. of airspace each (without driver displacement) so it should put out relatively tight controlled sub-bass frequencies. Overall, this is going to be the best bang for your buck!

would 800w rms @4ohms be what you would want for 2 of these?
Brandon H on Dec 16, 2014
Best Answer: Hi Brandon,

You ALMOST got it right. Two Single 4-ohm subwoofers can be wired to 8ohms or 2ohms (link below to show you how to do both) . Ideally we will go to 2ohms, because its far more practical. So, with that said, you would want ~800w RMS @ 2ohms from an amplifier. Examples of this are the Hifonics BRX1100.1D, Pioneer GM-D9601, and NVX JAD1200.1 .

amps for my sub?
A shopper on Aug 15, 2014
Best Answer: I suggest the Kenwood KAC-5001PS class D Amp. 1 amp per speaker or at least get an amp that has enough RMS power to push each sub at its peak RMS. ie: your sub has a 400 RMS max with 1200 peak so for every sub i would multiply 400 x x = Minimum RMS power needed. ( 400 x 4 = 1600 ) minimum 1600 RMS amp is needed. My choice is always class D mono amps for hard clean bass that you can feel as well as hear.
This is only my opinion on the matter. Over all you have to make the final decision on how you want your system to sound.

Hi,
I was wondering if amplifier Boss CX1100M can be installed using the Kicker CK8 series wiring kit?it will be powering a Kenwood 3013ps sub in a sealed box.

Thanks,

Bobby
Bobby H on Jan 24, 2015
Best Answer: Yes you can, but that amp only produces 250 watts while your sub is 400 watts rms. Stick with reliable amps like Kenwood, jl audio, kicker etc. Instead of the cheap brands of amps (boss, power acoustik, SSL audio). Trust me, I've bought my fair share of cheap amps and would have saved a lot more money buying a reliable brands to begin with. Pay attention to rms ratings, not max ratings (which are total bs) and the fuses on an amp. A good rule of thumb is the fuse ratings on an amp multiplied by 10 is about the output you'll get. So you'll need an amp that has at least 2 30A fuses or 1 50A fuse to give enough power 60x10=600 watts, 50x10=500 watts.

Hi,
I have the Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subwoofer. Would you suggest a sealed or ported box? I know both can be used, but would one be better over the other? And what cu ft would you suggest?
Bobby H on Jan 20, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Bobby,

Before you get more replies, we want to chime in for a second: Please be aware, you are likely going to get various opinions and suggestions. The TYPE of enclosure that is chosen is Very Particular to the individual, and relative to the setup. If there was a "better" option, then the manufacture would ONLY suggest THAT option. In the end, it will come down to what best fits YOU and YOUR application. Below is a bit of literature to help with your decision.

Im looking to get two of the Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subs and need to know how big of amp to get to power these? and do i need a power pack so i still have lyrics through my speakers?
hunter56 on Oct 23, 2014
Best Answer: Yes i would bet something to increase the volume on the speakers. I would prefer a 4ch amp but that's me. and for the sub you definitley need an amp that puts out at least 400Wrms to each sub idk who many you plan on using. This sub craves watts and will really pounds when provided. also i suggest using a ported box.
