Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
Performance (Kenwood)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
12"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1200 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
400 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Single
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
34 - 300 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
85 dB
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
15.1 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Black
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Polypropylene
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Urethane
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
No
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
No

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Sealed
Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.25 cubic feet
Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.75 cubic feet
Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.0 cubic feet
Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.5 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
6-1/4"
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
11"
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

Kenwood subwoofers are the way to get great sound for a cheap price. Dont like the price scare you away from these fantastic subs i have bought many pairs of these subs for not just myself but also for many of my friends and my friends friends. These subs work great with the 9105D 2 way amp 2400 watt max output and gives you a hell of a hit when the bass drops. I stand behind kenwoods products and i am a very satisfied installer and owner of kenwood products!!!!

Great Bang for Your Buck

September 5, 2013

I originally bought one of these Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subs with a Kenwood KAC-9105D, so I was wired at a 4 ohm load @ 500 Watts RMS. I was using a sealed box from Sonic. I soon decided to get the max out of my amp and bought another of these subs and a double sealed enclose from Sonic. Now wired at a 2 ohm load. These things pound. Considering theyíre rated for 400 Watts each and Iím pushing 900 Watts (Not bad though, thatís only 100 over Ė a pretty close match), they hold up nice. I havenít experienced any clipping. Theyíve handled everything Iíve thrown at them so far. How loud are they? Well, Iíve always liked to rate subs by things like; feeling the bass in your throat, moving your hair, tickling your nose, rattling mirrors, hurting your ears, etc. Iíve experienced all with these. My girlfriend said things in the house were rattling when I pulled up the other day. I donít know what was rattling or how bad, but I know you can hear it in the house and farther. This system does pound. Kenwood is on their game this day and age though. You really get your moneyís worth with them. I would definitely recommend these subs.

Amazing!

July 12, 2012

I bought 2 of these subs 6 moths ago during the black Friday sale. I've had 3 amps power these subs at 2 ohms and they have never let me down! Everyone turns there head to the amount of bass these bad boys produce! I drive an 01 camaro and i have these in there own separate boxes with 500 watts rms, can anyone say free back massage?

Get them, you will not regret buying this, i promise you.

Amazing Bass!!!

Con's-
Maybe bulky-ness? This sub was too big to fit in my old box, so i had to put them in upside down.
Only problem is my system picks up engine noise, but thats not the subs fault.

Good bang for the buck

December 24, 2013

I bought this KFC-W3013PS to replace one I had that had a rattle. I thought it was a bad sub but now I'm thinking it's fine but I'm going to sell it since I bought this other one. Anyway, I think that's not too unusual to run into a problem like that with subwoofers that you're pounding 900 watts through, plus I over tightened when installing in the original box and cracked the plastic ring, so that could have something to do with it. Anyway, these subs have handled everything I've threw at them so far and they sound awesome. I think you get a lot for the price with these. But since one of them have had that issue I did rate them a little lower. I would still recommend them though. If you want to spend the money then buy JL or something. If you want a good system for a reasonable price then buy these.

HOLY ****

April 15, 2012

i bought two of these a few weeks back and have absolutely no regrets. i bought them to replace two 10s that i sold in the winter. I had no clue that they would BANG like they do. I wired them at 2 ohms. i paired them with a lanzar vector 3000.1 mono block. This amp, at 2 ohms, is rated at 2000 watts but obviously its not really true wattage so the subs are seeing around 1300 to 1400 watts. They vibrate my windshield wipers and my windows like CRAZY!!!!! I really think my trunk latch will break soon no joke. Get them you WILL NOT regret it.

Outstanding bang for the buck!

March 25, 2012

My wife bought a pair of these in a bass package with a Kenwood kac-8105D amp and a sealed atrend enclosure and gave it to me for father's day last year. I have them installed in my 99 Toyota 4runner and they kick butt! They hit hard, sound great and haven't given me any problems. Been pounding out low deep bass every day for almost a year. Best subs I've ever had for such a low price. Get 'em you won't regret it.

would 800w rms @4ohms be what you would want for 2 of these?
Brandon H on Dec 16, 2014
Best Answer: Hi Brandon,

You ALMOST got it right. Two Single 4-ohm subwoofers can be wired to 8ohms or 2ohms (link below to show you how to do both) . Ideally we will go to 2ohms, because its far more practical. So, with that said, you would want ~800w RMS @ 2ohms from an amplifier. Examples of this are the Hifonics BRX1100.1D, Pioneer GM-D9601, and NVX JAD1200.1 .

amps for my sub?
A shopper on Aug 15, 2014
Best Answer: I suggest the Kenwood KAC-5001PS class D Amp. 1 amp per speaker or at least get an amp that has enough RMS power to push each sub at its peak RMS. ie: your sub has a 400 RMS max with 1200 peak so for every sub i would multiply 400 x x = Minimum RMS power needed. ( 400 x 4 = 1600 ) minimum 1600 RMS amp is needed. My choice is always class D mono amps for hard clean bass that you can feel as well as hear.
This is only my opinion on the matter. Over all you have to make the final decision on how you want your system to sound.

Hi,
I was wondering if amplifier Boss CX1100M can be installed using the Kicker CK8 series wiring kit?it will be powering a Kenwood 3013ps sub in a sealed box.

Thanks,

Bobby
Bobby H on Jan 24, 2015
Best Answer: Yes you can, but that amp only produces 250 watts while your sub is 400 watts rms. Stick with reliable amps like Kenwood, jl audio, kicker etc. Instead of the cheap brands of amps (boss, power acoustik, SSL audio). Trust me, I've bought my fair share of cheap amps and would have saved a lot more money buying a reliable brands to begin with. Pay attention to rms ratings, not max ratings (which are total bs) and the fuses on an amp. A good rule of thumb is the fuse ratings on an amp multiplied by 10 is about the output you'll get. So you'll need an amp that has at least 2 30A fuses or 1 50A fuse to give enough power 60x10=600 watts, 50x10=500 watts.

Hi,
I have the Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subwoofer. Would you suggest a sealed or ported box? I know both can be used, but would one be better over the other? And what cu ft would you suggest?
Bobby H on Jan 20, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Bobby,

Before you get more replies, we want to chime in for a second: Please be aware, you are likely going to get various opinions and suggestions. The TYPE of enclosure that is chosen is Very Particular to the individual, and relative to the setup. If there was a "better" option, then the manufacture would ONLY suggest THAT option. In the end, it will come down to what best fits YOU and YOUR application. Below is a bit of literature to help with your decision.

Im looking to get two of the Kenwood KFC-W3013PS subs and need to know how big of amp to get to power these? and do i need a power pack so i still have lyrics through my speakers?
hunter56 on Oct 23, 2014
Best Answer: Yes i would bet something to increase the volume on the speakers. I would prefer a 4ch amp but that's me. and for the sub you definitley need an amp that puts out at least 400Wrms to each sub idk who many you plan on using. This sub craves watts and will really pounds when provided. also i suggest using a ported box.
