Kicker HP541TJ TJ Lavin Series DJ Style Over-Ear Headphones

The HP541TJ Headphones are designed by one of the greatest BMX riders of all time, TJ Lavin. These DJ style headphones feature Kicker's legendary bass response and boast tonal accuracy for enjoyable listening sessions. The TJ Lavin Series headphones features an in-line microphone and a multi-functional button. The microphone and button serves as a multi-functional headset that offers crystal clear two-way reception and multimedia controls for a unique listening-and-speaking tool. Switching over between a song and an incoming phone call has never been easier.

The 53-inch standard cable, reinforced with Kevlar and KICKER tangle-free braided cloth, is usable with any iPod, iPhone, Zune device, or any portable media player. Its lightweight, in-line microphone transfers voice clearly while being held at jaw level with a detachable positioning clip. A convenient multi-function button hangs at chest level for easy access to answer and end calls, or control music. The button commands the media device’s playlist with play, pause, track-forward or track-back controls.

A separate 11-1/2-foot cable can be attached for use in a studio or for any recording session. Separate plugs are available as well – a corrosion-resistant, nickel-plated 1/8-inch style that fits iPhone and other minijacks is the default, and included is a removable, gold-plated 1/4-inch stereo adapter for larger, high-fidelity jacks.

The HP541TJ’s over-ear, full-swivel ear cups are very lightweight and extremely comfortable during extended use. HP541TJ Headphones also interact with all KICKER Docking Systems, which are compatible with iPhone, iPod or Zune devices. Users can go to www.kicker.com for a list of newly released media players and smartphones that accept HP541TJ multi-function commands.

Headphone Design

Headphone Type

This is the design of the earpieces on the headphones. Some headphones go inside the ear, while others rest on the outside of the ear. This helps you know exactly what type of headphones you will be receiving.

In-Ear: The ear buds go into the ear. Most often, the right and left ear buds are two separate pieces.

Enclosed-Ear: Usually are found on the larger headphones. They rest on top of the ear and have padding for comfort, as well as enclosing the ear to the speaker. This type of headphone helps to filter out surrounding noise.

On-Ear: This type of headphone involves the speaker sitting gently on the ear without going in the ear or sealing it off.

Enclosed-Ear
Headband Type

Headphone type refers to the construction of the headphones.

Around the Ear means that the headphones wrap around the ear to provide a secure fit. This is most often seen in active and sports headphones.

Around the Neck means that the headphones wrap around the neck. This is also seen in active and sports headphones.

Earbuds means that the right and left sides of the headphones are separated and will fit securely into the ear. These are small, compact, and user friendly.

Over the Head headphones mean that the right and left speakers are connected with a support that goes over the head and rests on top. This is the typical headphone type.

Over the Head
Specifically For
Some headphones can use an IR Transmitter in your vehicle, while some can be plugged into your media device and be used on the go or at home.
Home/Portable
Headphone Application

This is the application that the headphones are designed for. Each application has unique features that make it perfect for particular uses.

DJ: These headphones are durable, loud, and will often allow for one ear listening.

Gaming Delivers explosive sound and allows you to communicate with others.

Home Hi-Fi: These audiophile headphones are engineered to produce high fidelity and accurate audio.

Home/Office: These headphones are designed to produce rich, brilliant sounds that the artists would appreciate.

Sports: Designed for active use. These headphones are made to stay in (or on) the ear during workouts.

Kids: Feature noise limiting technology so that your little ones don't damage their ears listening to music too loud.

On-the-Go: On-the-go headphones are lightweight and often fold up for easy storage and portability.

Student: Compact and rugged enough to survive life in a backpack; inexpensive enough to not hurt the wallet of a student.

Studio: Reproduce music perfectly without any coloration. Look here for reference quality studio monitoring headphones.

Traveler/Airplane: These headphones are compact, lightweight, and have a portable design.

DJ
Home/Office
Acoustic Principle

The basic design of the headphones. There are 3 different types:

Open: Have ports that allow air through the back of the diaphragms, enabling the headphones to sound like the music is coming from an outside source.

Closed: Completely sealed and have no air passing through the diaphragms. Sounds like you are in a closed off room.

Semi-open: Have slots or ports in the back of the cup and are partially open. This allows for a mixed sound between an open and closed headphone.

Closed

General Features

Noise-Canceling

Audio Features

Driver Type

The physical design of the driver in the headphones.

Balanced Armature:
A balanced armature driver uses a coil wrapped around an armature which is held in between two magnets until it is stimulated by an electrical current. When stimulated, this armature is magnetized which causes it to rotate one way or the other around a pivot point which moves the diaphragm to create sound. Balanced armature driver headphones are generally earbuds and can have multiple drivers in each earbud.

Dynamic:
Dynamic drivers are the most common driver type. They feature a permanent magnet, usually neodymium, a voice coil and a conical diaphragm to drive your music. A dynamic headphone driver looks pretty much identical to any typical home theater speaker.

Electrostatic:
Electrostatic drivers are made up of an extremely thin membrane, usually a coated PET film, stretched between two metal plates. An electrical signal is applied to the metal plates to create an electrical field which, depending on its polarity, draws the speaker diaphragm toward one of the plates which forces air through the perforations in the diaphragm which generates the sound wave.

Planar Magnetic:
A planar magnetic driver is made up of a large membrane suspended between two sets of oppositely aligned magnets. An electric charge is applied to the membrane to induce movement and produce sound waves.

Dynamic
Impedance
The opposition to electric current, a higher impedance means a higher electrical resistance. This is measured in ohms.
40 ohms
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
107 dB
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
18 - 21,000 Hz
Audiophile
Audiophile headphones represent some of the finest headphones available. Audiophile headphones produce genuinely outstanding sound quality as well as extraordinary build quality, components and comfort. They are truly the finest headphones available.
No
Built-in Amplifier
This refers to whether the headphones have an amplifier built-in.

These headphones are simply amazing. I just got them yesterday and I already love them. They are the most comfortable pair ive ever worn. I can wear them for hours without even noticing they're on. My friend has beats by dre and these sound just as good, with just a little less bass. I love the different cord selections and I would recommend them to anyone. Only bad thing i would say is once in a while theres some static from the cord, but after twisting the connections it disappears. Also i feel like i need to be careful with them because the plastic feels pretty fragile. Cant beat them, especially for the price, and Sonic has the best service ive ever had too.

March 27, 2013

My 14yr old son is really into name brands. He wanted a pair of "beats" for his birthday I did some research and got him kickers instead. He went to school with them and listened to his friends beats, then his wuth the same song and came home and told me his were way better!! He loves them wich makes me recommend them highly since he loves his superstar mom for getting him the better sounding headphones.

GREAT PRODUCT!!

January 6, 2015

Nice all around sound. Crisp highs, good mids and very deep bass. To mellow out the bass a bit, you can just put electrical tape over the two holes in the front. I did that because I am not a bass head, but younger people will probably appreciate the boom. You can actually feel air blowing from the bass. Overall I am happy with these headphones. they work well with a mobile phone and my mp3 player. No amp is needed.

Awesome..Must have headphones

May 14, 2012

After 6 months of usage i feel that this is a must own headphone for any music lover. High mid and low frequencies are stunning awesome. The build quality is very good, though it's made of plastic. Kicker has used good quality plastic. Very very comfortable to wear especially for long hours. I would say that bass is not quite hard hitting but gives a very good balanced sound quality. I'm really impressed with the vocal quality that's produced by these headphones. Overall this is an excellent product to listen to songs. Talking about the microphone quality, i would like to say that Kicker didn't concentrate only on sound quality but also picking up sounds by the microphone too. It's really powerful.

I reduced 1 star in features just for not having noise cancellation. But i agree that for this price whatever given is unmatched.

I have always been a great fan of SonicElectronix and i'm really happy to have bought these headphones from them. Great price, amazing value for money. Thank you Kicker for making an excellent product and thanks SE for marketing it.

Sound Amazing, Deep Bass just not durable.

January 27, 2014

I purchased these a few months back to replace my bose in ear headphones and to help block out all the background noise while working out at the gym. At first they were amazing and did everything I could have ever asked for. Unfortunately I have lost sound to my right speaker unless I twist and bend the cord or turn the headphone facing out, and even then it don't last long before it loses connection or what not...

December 26, 2014

Great product, love the way it folds and swivels. It is comfortable on the ears only thing I don't like is how it is shaped more like a square on the head and not the typical oval shape, which I think fits closer to the head all the way around. Great sound quality like how the package comes with three auxiliary cords one with a mic. Not a dj so I have no need the bigger plug in.

Audiophile gods gift to humans

August 7, 2012

The audiophile gods has given us this gift to our ears. I can't believe this pair is the best one out there. Beats? Bose? This is definitely better. I am using fiio e5 amplifier with this and you can definitely hear what you are missing. Listen to "hotel california live" and "ligia" by stan getz. Pay attention to the double sax on the left and right speaker. The clarity is just amazing. You will hear the very minute sound. There are songs that i hear the footsteps of people during acoustic or live versions that i dont normally hear in my other headphones. The sound pressure is enough to satisfy your head vibration cravings but will not overpower the vocals.

The other part of this review is for the customer service. I am very impressed. Not long ago, the right speaker started to become mute when i put it on my head. Maybe because my head was too big. But it is fine if i dont put it on my head. I told this im my email and luckily i still have the warranty. I sent my old pair thru ups and the same day they received it, they shipped me a new one. I am so happy i have my headphones back.

Not durable. 7 months of light use.

July 13, 2015

I have owned these headphones since January and have used them very little in that time (light usage).

The headphones sound great. They have a nice frequency response and changed the way I listen to music.

Today, the right speaker began to fail. The failure is intermittent which suggests that the wire that runs through the headband is broken. Both of the speakers work when the headphones are not on my head but when I put them on my head, the right speaker dies.

I was expecting this product to last a lot longer than 7 months, therefore I do not recommend this product.

Like these phones. Good bass and overall sound. Comfort is ok. I wear glasses and found that after 30 minutes, the back of my ears began to hurt to the point where I needed to take them off. I started using the headphones without my glasses on and was able to wear them longer without problems . Just as good or better than the way, over priced beats!

Both of us loved these but my son;s pair lost the right speaker in three months. Will try to return for warranty. If they are replaced without issue I will be happy.

Awesome headphones!!!

October 29, 2015

We got these for my 11yo. He is really hard on his headphones and breaks them often so we are always caught between a more expensive, durable pair and take the chance he will break them or something really cheap that we know he will break but at least we didn't spend a lot. My son also demands a good quality sound. These headphones have been wonderful! Very durable, great price, and the sound is excellent! We bought the double pack and one month in, the back-up pair is still in it's box sitting in the closet. I highly recommend these headphones! Very stylish, too.

They put a tremendous amount of pressure on my head because they are flexing really hard to fit on my head and I don't even have that big of a head. They sound good but if you have a big head you're going to get a headache pretty quick from the pressure. I'm going to go back to my Sennheiser headphones.

Simply the Greatest. Wpw

The Kicker Amphitheater is Simply the Greatest ipod-iPhone Speaker Dock on the Market. I used to have one Bose Companion 2.1 Computer Speaker System, and after that Bose, I bought a Klipsch Set, But without a Doubt...This Kicker is Better by Far.

It's Simply Above the Competition. You won't be disappointed. On the Contrary, You will keep this One for years.
