Bought this box/sub combo for 2 reasons. First, it was Rockford Fosgate and I know they make quality products. Second, I didn't have a lot of money to spare and for less than $85 I could have a dual 4 ohm voice coil RF 12 with a box to match.
I haven't had a custom stereo almost 10 years, but just bought a new car and wanted a system that would rock hard and clean. Its a 2013 Sonata and I wanted to keep the stock look on the dash, so I started with an NVX XPLOC2 line out converter and ran RCA's to my center armrest storage area where I mounted a Cadence CEQ773. From there I ran 3 sets of RCA's to the trunk with an old 4 channel MTX Thunder I had in my last set up putting 55 watts to Infinity Kappa coaxials in the rear doors and Alpine Type S components in the front with Stinger Roadkill applied for sound dampening in the doors and the trunk.
For the sub, I went with this RF 12/box combo and powered it with a RF Prime 250 monoblock amp. Took some work getting all my crossover points, gains, and EQ settings tweaked just right and the right place for the sub box placement, but once I did I was impressed. This single 12 hits hard and accurate for price. I listen to a lot of different music, including classic rock, metal and trance. These subs do a great job keeping up. They also go low, which is the only thing I was hesitant about since the specs list it as having a frequency response low of 43hz, but it definitely still picks up the lower notes with ease. Even played the old Techmaster PEB bass cd and this sub only misses the lowest of lows in a couple of songs that most subs would have trouble hitting unless they were pulling at least 500w.
This deal is worth every penny if you either don't have more than $100 in the budget for a sub/box combo and probably sounds as good as plenty that would cost you $200 or more.
