Power Specifications - Subwoofer Channel

RMS Power @ 4 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 4 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
500 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 2 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
800 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 1 ohm
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 1 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
JAD (NVX)
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.
1 - Mono
Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

1200 watts
Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.
1/0 AWG
Minimum Impedance Unbridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is not bridged.
1 ohms
Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.
No
Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.
1 pair
Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

40 - 320 Hz
Subsonic Filter
Allows you to block (filter) ultra-low frequencies that your subs cannot reproduce.
20 - 38 Hz
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
This spec compares the strength of the signal to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise.
111 dB
Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.
Yes
Fan Cooled
A great feature to have if an amp generates a large amount of heat. Cooling fans can help regulate the temperature to prevent the amp from overheating (burning).
No
Fuse Rating
The amperage and the number of fuse(s) an amp requires.
40A x 3
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Yes
Strappable
Some amplifiers can be "strapped" together in order to increase the output of a single audio channel. These amplifiers feature RCA preamp outputs, allowing you to pass the signal directly from one amp to the other to ensure consistency.

GET IT!!!!!!!

November 17, 2013

NVX is my new favorite company their products are very well built at a fantastic price. This amp is as clean as can be and has every feature needed it is simple as that. I have it with the NVX VCW122 at 1Ohm and it gets maybe lukewarm LOVE IT!! I do have one complaint however I hate how a 1200 Watt amp comes with 8 AWG pawer and ground, and while they do include an adapter for 0 AWG the screws on mine were drilled wrong or something, but i just re drilled the threads and they worked fine. I would really like to see the next gen not need an adapter for 0 AWG or 4 AWG

Great buy

September 17, 2013

The NVX 1200.1 does rated or above I have it running 2 sundown SA 8 d4 at 1ohm and it gives them all they want with plenty of head space. The amp gets warm but haven't had it shut down yet and I play it hard. I also have a NVX 800.4 running my highs and it also has very clean sound and so much more power than I'm using I would suggest these amps to anyone not wanting to spend alot but have good clean power.

Very Happy so Far

April 18, 2013

I purchased the JAD800.4 along with a JAD1200.1 to power my Infinity Kappa speakers and MB Quart subs. My first choice was the Infinity Kappa Five amp, but I had problems with two of them and was given a store credit. Second time around I decided to go with two amps (4/1channel) hoping for better performance / reliability. I read a lot of mixed reviews on Class D amplifiers. Many people think that A/B has better sound quality, while others prefer the small footprint, high power / low heat output of Class D. Being an engineer I reviewed the specs and was very impressed with the signal to noise as well as the THD compared to Class A/B. NVX is a relatively new brand so I turned to Google and found several good reviews. I was looking at the Polk amps and NVX seems to be very similar, with the controls panels and specs being almost identical (and NVX was in stock). Out of the box the amps had a solid feel and clean look. They have a soft-start feature that powers them up a few seconds after they get power. This gives you time to start your engine without drawing any current. Very nice. The sound quality is excellent - better than other A/B amps I had in the past. More than enough power - I haven't even cranked them all the way up yet and don't think I'll ever have to. I have a second MB Quart 10 RLP on back order because with one sub I was getting distortion before I could feel the bass. It turns out that the Infinity Kappa Five amp was the weak link. The JAD 1200.1 pushes one sub very well. The only negative I have to say about these amps is that the adjustment dials take a philips screwdriver, and they do not have an arrow or line showing you what it is set to. This made it a little inconvenient to tweak the crossover points.

...come in small packages. And this, is small, and powerful. The included adapter for 0/1 AWG is perfect and was welcomed for my install. This amp has the power to shake my car like never before and provides the safety you need with a Sub-Sonic filter. Definitely a winning product from NVX

The Best, Pound for Pound!

July 8, 2014

In the same ballpark as this little guy, nothing touches it. The AD-1 Test run is legit! I'm running this at 2ohms, and I am AT LEAST grtti getting the 800w at 14v. Compared to amps of the past, this thing is a bit unimpressive out of the box because of its tiny footprint. Once plugged up it leaves Little Doubt of its performance! It gets warm, but my hand doesn't get an NVX logo branded if I touch it. Between the beating I'm giving it and the 95+ degree summer we're having, this guy is a Trooper! I chose this over the Rockford Fosgate R1200, and I dont regret it one bit. Only complaint is the bass knob, it's not as sensitive as I'd like, but once you find the sweet spot it works as advertised. It may just be dummy proof, which is why there's no "bass boost" knob - A Good Thing! These guys got it right!

Good clean amp, solid deal for the price.

May 19, 2014

I have had car audio as a hobby for 15 years now and am thoroughly satisfied with these amps and everything else I've acquired from NVX Pros: Small size (seriously 1/4 the size of a lot of amps,) doesn't get very hot running @ 1 ohm pushing hard, it's quite efficient and not power hungry, good clean power!!! Cons: The X-over and gain controls are meant to be turned about 2 full revolutions instead of 1/2 revolution. This wasn't a real problem but did catch me quite off guard. The power mounts are standard at 8 ga with an adapter for up to 1/0 ga. I happen to us 1/0 ga and found this to be a little troublesome and silly. Finally, the screw holes and all the speaker and power mounts adjustments must be made through holes in their handle design requiring you to use a rather slender screwdriver, which you may just not have handy at all. I feel that for the price the pro's of this unit certainly outweigh it's slight drawbacks. I have 2 NVX VCW 12's being pushed by 2 of these amps. I am very pleased with this set as the speakers can hit a wide frequency range while, be pretty loud, and be very clean at the same time. I definitely recommend this amp. The quality isn't far from Sundown or Memphis but the price sure is!

March 24, 2014

I bought this cause my sub needed a more powerful amp. It made a huge difference in the sound. I recommended this amp to a few friends and they bought one too. The cons is that it is very power hungry and the remote knob is usless. Other than that it is a great amp, great power for the price. I would buy it again and again!

Awesome little amp!!!

December 20, 2013

I have gone through 4 different amps trying to find the right one to power my 2 Kicker 10" L-7's. They were in my other car on a JL 1000/1, but I upgraded to a DD sub for the JL, and moved the L-7's to my daily driver. The most recent amp that I had hooked up to them was an MB Quart ONX1.1500D, which was a good amp for the money, but after getting used to the JL, I pushed the MB Quart too hard and fried it (thank GOD for Square trade warranties--they really do pay off). I ordered a Hifonics BRZ1200.1D, and while I was waiting on that, The guys at Sonic suggested that I try out this new little amp they were now selling. They said that it was a much better amp than the MUCH bigger Hifonics, and I must admit, I was very skeptical. But, they were right!! It's going on 2 months now and this thing is making my L-7's POUND, while the amp barely gets warm !!! It's not a JL 1000/1, but for 1/4 the price and 1/3 the size, it beats the hell out of darn near anything in it's price range!! Supposedly, this amp is even better than the Rockford Fosgate Prime Series, which I also considered. Sonic's customer service is great and their employees know their products and will give it to you straight about what's what, even if it goes against your core beliefs. Keep up the good work!!

Beware of Bass Knob

November 21, 2013

I love the amplifier, I have it wired down to 1ohm for it's full 1,200 watts to power two Alpine SWR-12d4. I was surprised to see how small it really is and how good it looks compared to my old Brutus 1200.1D. I love how is made of metal all around not plastic, and that it is CEA-2006 compliant. However, I can't say the same for the bass knob. The bass knob is made of plastic all around and seems cheap, to make things worst just like previous reviews, indeed the bass knob doesn't seem to work properly. I have worked with two of this amps, originally I bought one and the bass knob didn't work. It dove me crazy so I had it exchanged thinking it was broken, however, the replacement wasn't much different. The first one I had the bass knob didn't do anything from volume 0-50% and anything from 50-100% of the volume was exactly the same (no difference in volume)...The second one, the current one I use, the bass knob doesn't play anything from volume 0-25% and anything from volume 25-100% is the same volume, just like the last amp there is no difference in volume sound. It feels more like a ON and OFF knob if anything. That was a huge turn off in my eyes almost made me return it back Pros: CEA-2006 Complaint, looks good, sounds great, full metal. Cons: Bass knob is garbage. (Huge turn off!!!)

TRUE RMS

November 3, 2013

I have just completed installation of this amp. So far, the power is surprising. I did not realize the amp was so small when i purchased it. In fact, I was very doubtful that it would perform well after seeing the size after unboxing. I use it to power two 12s. It delivers a very satisfying thump. I am genuinely amazed by the power. I also use a nvx capacitor. I am fast becoming a nvx fan. Great products in my experience.

Will this support multiple subwoofers?
Harry D. Staff on Aug 5, 2014
Best Answer: Absolutely. Obviously you have to make sure the figures make sense, but technically this amp can support 4,8,16 subs IF you make the numbers work. 16 is probably a stretch sense that would mean the subs would be rated at 75w RMS, haha =P . On the topic of Multiple Subs, I'm thinking of adding a Second VCW104 to this amp.

I have two nvx vsw104. I was wondering if it would be ok to use this JAD 1200.1 and wire it at 1 ohm?
A shopper on Aug 5, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,

Like our awesome customers have confirmed. Absolutely! Simply use just ONE Positive (+) and ONE Negative (-) on the amp if the wiring gets confusing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MbtAMBSJEq0

How would you wire (2) DVC 4 ohm subwoofers down to 1 ohm on this amp?
Anthony G on Aug 10, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,

You have TWO options here - give our guys a call if it gets to hard to follow - of which NEITHER is "Better" than the other. You will get the exact same performance.

1) You can wire the Two Dual-4ohm subs TOGETHER in Parallel, and simply use 1 Positive (+) & 1 Negative (-) from the Amp.

OR

2) You can wire EACH Dual-4ohm sub, INDIVIDUALLY, in Parallel. This will bring the impedance of EACH SUB down to 2ohms. Then, you will give EACH SUB its own Positive & Negative, utilizing all the outputs on the amp. The amp will then - WITHOUT any intervention from you - bring down the impedance to 1ohm on its own, because the outputs come together internally like a traditional Monoblock.
