Works great!
This NAV unit is very nice for the price. The user interface was pretty easy to learn to navigate and the sound quality is great. There is a very nice EQ plus front, rear, and sub crossovers that do a pretty good job helping tune your audio system. It has more features than I need. I have this unit in my 05 Impreza STi with JL C2 component 6's in the front doors, JL C2 4's in the rear doors, 1 rockford fosgate Punch HE2 12 in a sealed "stealth" enclosure. all speakers ran by an alpine mrx-v60 5 channel. It sounds, almost as good as headphones. as for a complaint i read about not being able to see the directions in text, why would you even want them, it has a map right there with street names and your highlighted rout. I may by another for the mrs.

This is a nice add-on. GPS works as well as the bluetooth for handsfree calling, and will improve the sound system of my car.

JVC did something really strange in their 2011-2012 line up. They eliminated the ability to view the calculated route as text. Thus, once a route is calculated you have no easy way to see if it makes any sense or even what road it will take you on. Likewise, you can not look to see what road you will be getting on 5 miles ahead. Imagine printing out directions from mapquest but you are only allowed to see them one line at a time, after you make each turn.
They do offer something called "route simulation" which is like playing a video animation of the turn by turn directions one at a time in fast forward. However, you are almost forced to write it down and for a 2 hour route it can take 6+ minutes to see what it has proposed. Viewing routes as text was possible in the older KW700 series.
Why JVC would eliminate this vital feature is beyond me. I contacted JVC to ask if there might be an update, they said they only provide bug fixes in their updates not feature enhancements. This could easily be a five star device if JVC would address this significant deficiency .
While this unit offers a ton of features for the money, a primary reason to spend the extra money is for the GPS capability. As is, you will find yourself relying on a portable gps or having a printout of your route from mapquest. Not being able to easily view a proposed route before driving off is a serious, and potentially dangerous omission. However, if this is not important to you then go ahead and buy one.
