Incredible Bass with Ability to Perform in a Tight Space!

NVX's VC-Series car subwoofers are about to blow you away. The VCW154 is a jack-of-all-trades and has been engineered to the highest standards. The woven fiber pressed paper cone and custom High Roll foam surround with Nylon stitching help reproduce tight and accurate bass, keeping cone distortion to a minimum even at the highest volume levels. The next key components in the design of the VCW154 are the large dual 3" High Temperature Aluminum voice coils and triple stacked motor structure. These features combined help this sub handle some serious power at 850-1000 Watts RMS. The dual voice coils also give you many options for different Ohm load wiring configurations. With all the above engineering elements combined, the VCW154 subwoofer gives you better sound and build quality than many subs costing almost twice as much. Plus, they will sound great in a small sealed enclosure for those who do not have a lot of space!

NVX VC Series Subwoofer Breakdown

Surround: Most materials used in commercial subwoofer surrounds rip and tear at peak levels. Keeping this in mind, the NVX team developed a custom high-roll foam surround that gives their subs improved linearity and MORE output. Combining that with high-strength adhesive and nylon stitching means that this subwoofer will last through some serious audio output!

Basket: The 3-dimensional cast provides outstanding strength while keeping the subwoofer light due to the aluminum construction. Aluminum is a non-ferrous metal, which means the basket will not interfere with the magnetic energy of the voice coil and motor structure.

Spiders: The Dual Poly-Cotton Spiders are designed to be durable and long-lasting. They give the voice coil the suspension it needs and restore the subwoofer to its normal resting position with ease.

Voice Coil: The 3" (2.5" for the VCW102 and VCW 104) High Temperature Aluminum Voice Coil along with the triple-stacked magnet give massive power handling capability for the VC Series Subwoofers. The effective heat dissipation of the voice coil allows you to play the subwoofer louder without distortion.

CEA-2031 Compliant: All CEA-2031 compliant loudspeakers adopt the same testing and measurement methods so comparing them side by side is easy. Loudspeakers include car speakers and subwoofers. The Consumer Electronics Association created new testing and measurement methods for mobile loudspeaker systems that define test procedures for rating the performance and physical size of speakers. This is important because you can now compare different speakers on the same playing field. Any manufacturers who adopt the CEA-2031 logo product mark can be compared evenly to other speaker manufacturers with the same mark.

Tips for Installing the your NVX VCW154 subwoofer

Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
VC-Series (NVX)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
15"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
2000 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
1000 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Dual
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Voice Coil Diameter
Diameter of voice coil, usually measured in inches.
3"
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
20 - 200 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
87 dB
Xmax (millimeters)
Typically measured in millimeters, the Xmax value is the measure of a speaker cone's maximum excursion in one direction while maintaining a linear behavior.
20 mm
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Dark Gray
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Woven Fiber Pressed Paper Cone
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Foam
Magnet Structure
Defines the overall structure of the subwoofers magnet.
Double Stacked
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
No
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.
No

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Ported / Vented
Sealed
Minimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.5 cubic feet
Optimum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the ideal sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
1.70 cubic feet
Maximum Sealed Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum sealed box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.0 cubic feet
Minimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the minimum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.5 cubic feet
Optimum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the ideal ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
2.75 cubic feet
Maximum Ported Box Volume
This value indicates the maximum ported box volume that the manufacturer recommends for the subwoofer. The volume is typically displayed in cubic feet.
3.75 cubic feet
Top-Mount Depth
The depth when installed on top of the mounting surface. Measured from the bottom of the speaker's magnet to the bottom of the mounting holes on the rim of the speaker.
7.57"
Cutout Diameter
The actual diameter of the hole you will need to cut out if you are creating a new mounting location for this speaker, or if you are mounting a subwoofer in a box.
14.41"
Shallow Mount Installation
This means that the subwoofer/speaker is designed to be installed in areas that do not have a lot of space. Shallow mount subwoofers are typically found under a seat or behind the seat in some trucks.

Shallow mount speakers will typically have a mounting depth of 2" or less, while shallow mount subwoofers will typically have a mounting depth of 3" or less.

No

Electromechanical Parameters

Free-Air Resonance (Fs)
The free-air resonance frequency of the subwoofer, measured in Hz. At this frequency the weight of the moving parts is perfectly balanced with the subwoofers suspension system.
26 Hz
Equivalent Compliance (Vas)
This is the amount of air that has the same stiffness as the subwoofers suspension. The greater the rating, the lower the stiffness and larger recommended enclosure. It is measured in Liters.
89.47 liters
Total Speaker Q Value (Qts)
This is the subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including all dimensionless losses. Essentially, a high Qts value (closer to 1.0) means the subwoofer is great for sealed enclosures and a low Qts value (closer to 0) means the woofer is great in vented enclosures. A Qts of around 0.45 means the woofer will work decently in either enclosure type.
0.436
Electrical Q Value (Qes)
The subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including electrical losses. Also called the mechanical damping of the subwoofer. The unitless measurement usually varies from 0.5 – 10.
0.526
Electrical Resistance of Voice Coil (Re)
Amount of DC resistance of the subwoofer when measured with an ohm meter. Typically, this will read less than the impedance rating of the subwoofer.
6.4 ohms
Mechanical Q Value (Qms)
This is the subwoofers relative damping (Q) at the resonance frequency (Fs), including mechanical losses. Also called the mechanical damping of the subwoofer. This unitless measurement usually varies from 0.5 – 10.

BEST subwoofer for the money.

January 12, 2014

Let me start by saying I've owned plenty of subs and amp and have had everything from 10's to 15's and amps from 300 to 5000+. This subwoofer in a 2.5^ft box with and re audio ctx4200.1 is so amazing it's unreal. I love this setup. I spent $400 on this sub and the amp and it will beat most $800 setups I promise. My entires car shakes but in the most amazing way possible. The clarity is so crisp and it hits all the low notes perfectly. Definitely my go to brand from now on. NVX all the way. For the price, what you get is a steal! GET THIS SUB NOW!

READ ME ON THIS SUB

September 23, 2013

Ok Here is the Bottom Line, This is not a spl sub period. It is a fantastic flawless pure wonderous joyful quality from heaven sub. Do not give it over true 1100 rms you will cook the coils faster than H*ll! Now lets get to the facts this baby is pure quality that can literally hit every single frequency in a song from low, mid, high with pure heavenly accurate perfection. Just to name a few I compared it to, re sx pro, re sxxv2, re sex, pa mofo, polk mm(which has 5 star reviews for amazing sound q) and the list goes on nobody can touch nvx on sound q, accuracy, and best of all the wide bandwith of frequencies it hits and perfects. (please note this was not achieved until properly broken in.) I know you can read reviews on tons of subs and see 5 star reviews you will have to trust this one that its the ultimate sub hands down. The only thing it doesnt have is power handling. Id love to see nvx make the voice coil bigger, longer, and give it more than 4 layers it would be unstopable. IF YOU WANT SQ WITH DECENT SPL BUY THIS SUB FORGET EVERYTHING ELSE PERIOD!!!!!!

Honest Review

February 25, 2016

I read many reviews before deciding on this sub. I was impressed with how well it is made. I am currently breaking it in, but I can already tell that it will be impressive. I cant give 5 stars on durability at this time, but I feel that it is a great sub for the price.

Very nuce

November 27, 2016

This sub is bangin'! I have it in a sealed box at 1.7 cubes to include displacement. It's paired with a Rockford prime 1200.1d at 2ohms. (Roughly 700-900wrms.)

It's a musical sub. There was no lag in fast paced techno, played rock well and got down/dirty with rap/r&b. Very high output sub. Couldn't imagine it in a ported enclosure.

To sum it up, this sub won't disappoint you.

Great For Trunk Baffle (IB) Install

August 3, 2016

I installed a single VCW154 in my sedan via trunk baffle / infinite baffle, I'm feeding it 450 ish watts, about half of the sub's rated RMS, via the NVX JAD900.5 amp. I'm very, very happy with this sub (and the NVX amp).
It sounds amazing, very clean and musical, diggs very deep. Trunk baffle installs are more for SQ than SPL and require subs with lots of x-max. This monster totally fits the bill.
For those who care, I weighed the sub by itself and it came in at 30.5 pounds, not 37 like it says here on Sonic.
As with other NVX products, you get very high quality gear without paying extra for the name. Highly recommended.

Nice

July 18, 2016

I bought two of these to replace three twelve inch kicker L7's and I like them much better. They hit the upper bass nicely like the kicker's did, but kills the lows far better than the kicker's could ever do. Very good frequency response, and they do handle power without ever getting stinky! I run a Alpine 2000 watt amp on them all day and they never smell, even after hours of heavy use. I got them to hit 150.1 db so yes they do get very loud depending on your box, but very nice sq as well. Ugly in my opinion but who cares really, they sound good

Awesome!!

June 29, 2016

Im running 1 15 (waiting to order another) in a custom sealed box. This is the first 15 I've ever owned and I absolutely love it. I've always ran 12s because i listen to a lot of rock and heavy metal and I've had just about every brand you can think of. I stepped up to a 15 for the first time and this thing is awesome!! Sounds tight and clean even in the fast drum beats and slams when listening to rap and hip hop. I promise you will get more then you pay for with these subs.

So far, so goooood

June 27, 2016

I purchased 4 nvx vcw154 from sonic. Built a custom 4th order blow thru in my 98 single cab swb chevy. The box is 7cu sealed and 22 ported. Port is 344 square inch tuned to 44hz. I'm running 2 db drive a6 2800.1 amps which is approximately 2000w each. Subs are wired to 1ohm 2 per amp. The subs have held up for approximately 6hrs total of play time on and off for about a week now. Even though this subs are not specified by design for a 4th order they sound great in the box I built.

I have two NVX VCW152 subs. Now i want to run my system a 1 ohm for some more power so i purchased two dual 4 ohm subs to wire them to 1 ohm.

Been wanting these for a long time now. And for the deal that was given, I had to by them. They are top notch.

Im have a tough time deciding on replacement subs for my Tahoe. My choices are between the NVX VCW154 or the RE Audio SXX D4..Currently I have the Hifonics BRZ2400 and I want good subs for SPL and SQ. Which would you recommend?
Kevin S on Feb 24, 2015
Best Answer: I would recommend the RE audio. The only reason I went with NVX is because I already had a box and the NVX met the specs of the box but RE didn't.

What is the displacement on this woofer?
Hayden W on Nov 17, 2016
Best Answer: Hello Hayden, Now I actually Haven't Given A Review On This Subwoofer Officially, But The Displacement All Depends On How Thick Your Front Baffle Is (The "Baffle" Is The Wall Or Side That The Subwoofer Is Mounted To). I Suggest A 2" Baffle minimum For These Subs. Displacement Before Baffle 0.18ft^3 , Displacement With 2" Baffle 0.17ft^3-
