Amplifier Kit Specifications

Amp Kit Type
Amplifier installation kit come in two different types: Power or Complete. Power Amp kits are designed to only provide power to the amplifier. Complete kits will provide power and signal to the amplifier. Many of the complete kits will also include speaker wire to connect the amplifier to the subwoofer.
Number of Amplifiers Supported
This is the number of amplifiers that the amplifier kit can support. If you are are going to be powering more than one amplifier, make sure that the installation kit will support them.
1
Power/Ground Wire Size
The power/ground gauge numbers represents the main wire size of the amplifier kit.

Definitions are as follows:

Gauge (wire) - The diameter of a wire. The higher the number, the thinner the wire. Example: 4 gauge wire has more strands than 10 gauge wire.

AWG (American Wire Gauge) - A standard of the dimensional characteristics of wire used to conduct electrical current or signals. AWG is identical to the Brown and Sharpe (B & S) wire gauge.

Interconnect (RCA) Signal Cables Included
Interconnect cables are required for amplifiers which are installed to the "RCA preamp low-level outputs" of a car stereo receiver. If your amplifier has high-level / speaker level inputs, then you do not need to purchase interconnects; however, interconnects offer a much higher quality sound when compared to speaker level inputs.
2 Channel
Fuse Holder
This is the type of fuse holder that is included in the item.
AGU
Fuse Size
This is the size of the fuse that is compatible with the fuse holder. If the fuse needs to be replaced, be sure to replace it with the same size.
80A
Distribution Block Included
This means that the kit includes a distribution block in the package. This will assist in the installation of the amplifier kit or any situation where a distribution block is required.
No
Complies to AWG Standards
Since 1857, The AWG (American Wire Gauge) system has been the standard for measuring the diameter of wire. AWG standard is the measure of bare wire to find true gauge. Companies that do not follow AWG Standards include the thickness of the wire jacket which means the actual wire is not "True to Gauge". For the best performance from your amplifier wiring kit, make sure that the cable complies to the AWG standard.
Wire Material
The material that the wire is made of. Copper & aluminum are the most commonly used materials. OFC - Oxygen Free Copper is the ideal choice for wire material. Copper is a superior electrical conductor, & does not expand or contract with heat. CCA - Copper-Clad Aluminum is a suitable choice for lower powered or budget applications. The power transfer is not on par with OFC, but this material offers significant savings.

Don't waste your money

January 29, 2010

As many others have said previously stated, (wished I'd have listened) the main power and ground wires are 4 ga. in appearance only. Used this kit to install amp and subs purchased here also. Sounded TERRIBLE. I suspected the cables right off because the actual copper is FAR smaller than 4 ga. Ran to the local O'reilly's and purchased actual 4ga. wire to replace these junk cables. The subs immediately began to thump as expected. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS KIT.

The 4 gauge wiring kit has a 4 gauge OVERALL diameter, that is the diameter including insulation and copper core center. I was expecting a 4 gauge wire, which is the main copper core. The copper core that I was expecting to be 4 gauge is only an 8 gauge at best. The connectors that were supplied would work well with a 4 or even 6 gauge wire but are entirely too big for this wiring kit, but he RCA cable that was supplied seemed to be very good quality and is externally shielded which is a plus. The other plus to this product is the wiring is long enough to support larger vehicles.

Exactly what i needed!

November 8, 2009

I would definitely Recommend this product! If you are looking for a cheap and easy to use amplifier kit then i would buy this. Only thing that u might want to think about is the fuse connector is round and all plastic which sometimes they have a tendency to melt completely and then u have to replace it and its a pain so i would personally go out and buy a different one. I didn't personally use the one they provided so it might work but I did not want to take the chance.

Not exactly what I was expecting

August 5, 2009

This is yet another mislabeled or otherwise misadvertised amp install kits out there. None of the wire gauges are correctly advertised by the company that made this kit, nor are any of them of any kind of quality. I've been in the car audio business for several years now, and have seen virtually every trick manufacturers use to minimize costs on items such as these. Realistically, the 4-gauge power and ground wire included in this kit is actually 8-gauge, with enough insulation added to make it the same diameter as your typical quality 4-gauge cable. The speaker wire included, advertised as 18-gauge, is barely thicker than a piece of pet hair at what I would estimate at 24- or 22-gauge. The remote turn-on lead is the only cable that is even close to its listed size, supposedly being 18-gauge but really being more like 20. The inline fuse holder is actually not bad, and looks to be fairly waterproof as well as durable enough to sit under a hood. The fuse that it comes with, though, will probably not stand up to its rated amperage, especially not with the sub-par power/ground wire included in this kit. The RCA cables, although they do feature a good amount of shielding and a twisted-pair design, feature equally poor construction. I actually managed to rip the head off one of the ends when pulling it through a hole in the floor carpet that was plenty big. Had to make a run to get another set of RCAs... Bought this for a friend who needed some work done on his Blazer (relatively small amp on his subs, so an 8-gauge kit would have been fine), and I must say that I'm glad I went with this kit instead of the comparable "8-gauge" kit, which no doubt would have come with 12-gauge or lesser power/ground wire (after looking at the photos I made the determination that this was not going to be a quality amp kit). For an affordable 8-gauge amp kit, this will get the job done. If you actually need 4-gauge power wire, stay away from this one and buy one that comes from a reputable manufacturer that doesn't lie about what gauges its wires are.

Don't buy it!

July 30, 2009

All wires were NOT the gauge specified. The size of the wires are decieving because the insulation is thicker than any wire I have EVER seen, making the wires look huge. The actual stranded wire inside the insulation is several sizes smaller than stated. I purchased a head unit, speakers, an amp, and two subs all at the same time from Sonic. When I opened the wiring kit on Sunday and noticed that the wires were not large enough, it was too late to get anything else. So, I used the wires in the kit and crossed my fingers. BIG MISTAKE. The subs sounded like COMPLETE crap. I had heard using wires too small for the amp power and ground would cause all kinds of problems, but have never experienced it myself. I always use the correct size wires. It was late and I had to let the guy take the car. I had him bring it back later that week and completely rewired the amp with the correct wire. The system was completely different and sounded the way it should have. I can't say it enough, DO NOT BUY THIS WIRING KIT.

Everything in One Box

July 27, 2009

Well this is the best deal i've seen anywhere for a full amp install kit, so you really can't go wrong here. My only complaint is that the power wire is mostly rubber and not the actual wire. They beef up the surround to make it look like a bigger wire, ALTHOUGH this does not impact how the amp performs. So really it just comes down to the wire is just though to bend.

JUNK!!!!!

Try to stay away from this. It is junk. It is NOT 4 gauge, not even close! Speaker wire is not 12 gauge. Cheap, weak fuse holder. Waste of money, go for a better model

This kit sucks

June 22, 2009

Do not use this kit if you want a true 4 gauge wire. The power wires are more like 8 guage. Also the speaker wire that comes with it says its 12 gauge, and its barely 16. Spend the money the first time and get a better kit. I had to run out and buy speaker wire and power wires after recieving this kit.

Great Value!

May 11, 2009

This wire kit looks and works great for a great cost. I have an Alpine amp wired for 500W to a Rockford P3, and it sounds great. The only thing you should be warned about is the fuse holder. Make sure everything is lined up properly before tightening the seals on the holder. I was messing with it one day and ended up cracking the casing because I didn't realize the parts fit together a certain way. Other than that, this is a great buy.

Not a true 4 gauge kit

August 11, 2008

This kit has everything you need but it is far from a 4 gauge. The wire insulation is thick but the wire it self can barely be called an 8 gauge. If you are looking for a 4 gauge kit stear clear of this. Otherwise this is fine.

July 11, 2008

The actual wires in this kit worked as they should, as does the fuse, but the accessories (clips, spades, etc) leave much to be desired. Almost everything in the accessory package is second rate, and I ended up using my own equipment for almost all of those. Still a great value though.

Good for Price

July 10, 2008

It is a good basic kit for the price. If you buy you will need to upgrade the fuse it does not handle a 1200 watt amp well. Fuse lasted a week. But overall it is good price for the wiring.
