Outperformed Expectations
I bought these headphones after a gifted pair of TurtleBeach headphones failed on me and I reported their engineering flaws to the company, which promptly sent me a new pair -- that failed in the exact same manner.
'Open-air' is new for me, albeit surprisingly useful and effective. I live alone, so the expected sound leaks are not an issue. It's not 'bad' enough to be picked up by my mic during Skype calls, either.
Those who read reviews on this product stating they are devoid of a bass range should note that they are lacking in the blaring high volume bass that is popular with 'top 30' radio stations in exchange for a more rounded sound profile, with a 'rich' (vice 'heavy') quality. That said, those who find themselves attracted to blaring bass may find these headphones too bright for their taste. I find them suitable for anything from baroque to drum'n'bass.
The largest con from my point of view is the size. The ear cups are EXTREMELY large on my head and the sound quality does differ based on where I have them positioned on my head. However, they are relatively comfortable for longer-term wear (although I have not worn them in excess of perhaps 4-6 hours as of the writing of this).
Overall, I would certainly purchase these headphones again and recommend it to those looking for something in this price range. Due to the quality of craftsmanship and engineering, I will likely be a continuing customer of Audio Technica as a whole, as well.
