Headrest Monitor Specifications

Screen Size
This is the size of the monitor on the unit. It is measured diagonally and in inches. The bigger the number the larger the screen.
Screen Type
The type of technology used to produce the screen images. LCD, DLP, Plasma, LCoS, and CRT are the most common. 2 newer technologies include LED and OLED which use light-emitting diodes (LEDs) as a backlight, as opposed to conventional LCD TVs, which use cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) for a backlight.
If a unit is touchscreen capable, you can control a majority of it's functions by touching the screen.
OSD (On Screen Display)
Indicates that the unit has menus and features that display on the screen. Typically, on-screen menus allow users to adjust audio and video settings easier.
OSD Languages
Indicates the languages featured in the OSD (On Screen Display).

"Multilingual" includes three of the major European languages (English/Spanish/French) plus many others such as German, Italian, and more.

Number of Screens
The number of screen(s) the unit includes.
Remote Control
Allows control of specific features and functions from a remote control. Typically they are used to prevent button wear on your radio, or to allow easier navigation of menus.
DVD Player Included
This feature means that the item includes a DVD Player. For headrest monitors, the DVD player is usually built into the head rest for convenience.
Headrest Pillow(s) Included
If "Yes", the monitor(s) is pre-installed in an included universal headrest that allows for easy replacement of your factory headrest(s) without any necessary cutting or difficult mounting installation.
Additional Audio/Video Inputs
These inputs enable the unit to receive an audio or video signal from a separate source. There are many different types of connections and ways to accomplish this. Most common are RCA Composite cables and 3.5mm mini-jack plugs.

RCA Composite Inputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

This is commonly referred to as a mini-jack or a headphone jack. It is a 3.5mm plug that transfers audio only. There is a right and left audio channel on the plug which allows for stereo sound playback.

3.5mm AV Input
These plugs look similar to the common 3.5mm mini-jack, however they carry a third channel dedicated for video.

This means that an auxiliary input is possible, but only with the use of an optional accessory. These optional adapters will sometimes use the CD Changer port or other port on the back of a unit that might restrict the use of other expandability features. These accessories are typically sold separately.

Front 3.5mm A/V Input
Audio/Video Outputs
Audio/Video outputs are typically used to connect an overhead monitor to an aftermarket stereo. This is the number of A/V outputs that the item has. These outputs are usually RCA Composite cables.

USB Input
This feature refers to whether or not the receiver features an input to connect a USB device via standard USB or mini-USB. The USB input may be a connection on the front or rear of the unit with an extension cable for connecting devices to the receiver. Some units have an optional input that allows for a USB adapter to be purchased separately and used with the unit.
Built-in IR Transmitter
An IR transmitter allows the unit to transmit audio signal to IR wireless headphones.
Built-in FM Transmitter
Allows this unit to transmit it's audio signal to a factor radio via FM signals. This prevents the user from having to cut into their radio wiring to play the audio from their sound system.
Headphone Input
Indicates the availability of wired headphone jacks featured on the unit.
Shroud Color
The color of the trim around the monitor that allows the monitor to be mounted or installed into the headrest.
Active Headrest System
This designates whether or not the system is designed for use with Factory Active Headrests.

Headrest Pillow Features

Headrest Pillow Color
The color of the included headrest pillow(s).
Headrest Pillow Material
The type of material used for the headrest covers. Find the material closest to your vehicle's interior for a seamless match. Steer clear

November 1, 2013

I bought these, and at first, I was fairly satisfied with what I got. There were a couple of minor issues that I was willing to deal with, but the units seemed to work, keep the little guys happy in the back seats (chrome paint flaking off of stem, low-quality design). Things were good for a couple weeks, then I noticed certain DVDs wouldn't play. Fast forward a month or so, NO DVDs would play/read... at all. Needless to say, I sent the product back.

If you do choose to buy this, be sure to return the item at the FIRST sign of trouble (e.g. not playing certain DVDs) - don't wait. Other notes: On the poor design, the monitor units are somewhat loose in the pillows and will periodically try to pull away from the headrest (more of a minor nuisance), audio is 95% worthless - we had to use the FM modulator (only the DVD unit had audio, and you literally had to turn it all the way up to hear it).

Bottom line, it's a good deal if you get lucky with units that last - I wasn't lucky in that regard. Just be prepared to spend the money to send it back.

Disappointing quality & reliability

October 21, 2013

Out of the box, this product appeared to be of decent quality, but after having the monitors installed for a couple of months, I've found that not to be the case.

They are an inferior and substandard design. The monitors easily come loose from the headrest pillows. The audio is terrible - you have to turn it all the way up to hear anything, and there is no audio input for the 2nd monitor. It is very slow to navigate through DVD menus (delay between screens), and the unit does not consistently play DVDs.

While these were headaches, we could deal with it, as our kids really liked having movies in the car. However, now the DVD unit will not play anything at all. I continually get a read error when trying to play a DVD, and the disc motor behaves erratically (will spin even with the unit open).

Sad to say, this was a very disappointing purchase - please do not buy.
