Full Dolby Digital Surround Sound Headset

The DPX21 combines two of Turtle Beach’s hottest products into one deluxe combo package. We took our battle-tested PX21 headset, designed for PS3, XBOX 360 and PC/Mac gaming, and partnered it with the Ear Force DSS to transform the PX21 into a full Dolby digital surround sound headset. The PX21/DSS combo pushes your PS3 and XBOX 360 gaming experience to a new level with the thrilling realism of Dolby 7.1 surround sound and crystal-clear communication over PlayStation Network or XBOX LIVE—and saves you a bundle over the cost of buying the PX21 and DSS separately.

The DPX21 gives you a competitive advantage by bringing out sound cues in the game that are difficult to hear with speakers—such as the footsteps of an enemy sneaking up on you or the loading of a weapon at a distance. By combining online chat while immersing yourself in DSS-powered Dolby 7.1 channel surround sound, you can efficiently communicate with online players without being distracted from the game.

With its exceptional audio quality, online communication and comfortable ergonomic design, the DPX21 can help you become a better player while making it a lot more fun to play your favorite video games!

Headphone Design

Headphone Type

Headphone type refers to the construction of the headphones.

Around the Ear means that the headphones wrap around the ear to provide a secure fit. This is most often seen in active and sports headphones.

Around the Neck means that the headphones wrap around the neck. This is also seen in active and sports headphones.

Earbuds means that the right and left sides of the headphones are separated and will fit securely into the ear. These are small, compact, and user friendly.

Over the Head headphones mean that the right and left speakers are connected with a support that goes over the head and rests on top. This is the typical headphone type.

Over the Head
Earpiece Design

This is the design of the earpieces on the headphones. Some headphones go inside the ear, while others rest on the outside of the ear. This helps you know exactly what type of headphones you will be receiving.

In-Ear: The ear buds go into the ear. Most often, the right and left ear buds are two separate pieces.

Enclosed-Ear: Usually are found on the larger headphones. They rest on top of the ear and have padding for comfort, as well as enclosing the ear to the speaker. This type of headphone helps to filter out surrounding noise.

On-Ear: This type of headphone involves the speaker sitting gently on the ear without going in the ear or sealing it off.

On-Ear
Specifically For
Some headphones can use an IR Transmitter in your vehicle, while some can be plugged into your media device and be used on the go or at home.
Gaming
Acoustic Principle
The basic design of the headphones. There are 3 different types: Open: Have ports that allow air through the back of the diaphragms, enabling the headphones to sound like the music is coming from an outside source. Closed: Completely sealed and have no air passing through the diaphragms. Sounds like you are in a closed off room. Semi-open: Have slots or ports in the back of the cup and are partially open. This allows for a mixed sound between an open and closed headphone.

General Features

Noise-Canceling
Noise Reduction technology removes unwanted noise from a signal. Background or ambient noise can be removed to produce clearer speech and enhanced hearing. Typically these Active Noise Canceling (ANC) headphones are powered and use batteries to activate the noise canceling technology. Also referred to as Noise Reduction or Noise Cancellation.
No
Headphone Connection
This is how the headphones connect to the audio source.

Corded means that the headphones use a cord to transfer the audio signal.

Wireless means that the audio signal is transmitted wirelessly to the headphones.

Corded
1/4" Stereo Jack Adapter
Some headphones will come with a 1/4" stereo jack adapter to connect the usual 3.5mm jack to a 1/4" stereo plug.

1/4" Stereo jack is a larger audio jack that select electronics have.

Yes
Volume Adjustment
Volume Adjustment means that the headphone (independent of the source) can adjust the playback volume. Many headphones and ear buds have in-line volume control, which allows adjusting the audible volume from a switch on the headphones cord. Other headphones have a volume knob on the headphone can.
Yes
Built-In Microphone
This means that the headphones or earbuds have a built-in microphone. This can be a microphone on the cord, built into the headphone, or even a boom microphone. These mics can be used for music devices like iPods, for Smartphones to make and receive calls, or for gaming purposes.
Boom Mic
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
20 - 20000 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
120 dB
Driver Size
This refers to the diameter of the driver (speaker) on each side of the headphone.
40 mm
Primary Color
This is the main color of the item.

Secondary Color

Fits my needs perfectly!!

January 27, 2014

I bought these headphones because I live in an apartment complex with 2 other roommates and needed a way to be quiet, but still get awesome theater type surround sound for gaming and movies.

The headphones arrived with everything you need. A short optical cable (3ft), USB cable to power the Dolby Digital Processor, and the headphones. If you don't have a lot of knowledge with setting up audio systems then it might take a while longer, but it took me 5 min to plug in and power up. Changed the audio settings on my playstation 3 and put In the latest grand theft auto game.

After tweaking all the audio level and bass settings on both the processor and headphones, I was blown away. I was not expecting this much sound for the price. I have a pair of Bose earbuds and simply put, these turtle beach headphones are way better. The sound processor is incredible. The surround sound is unbelievable especially for the fact that it's only a left and right speaker next to your ear. Listening to cars drive by or people talking in the background or behind you really sounds where it's coming from. The amount of bass is nuts. I have it turned all the way down of the processor and a quarter of the way up on the headphones and it's just perfect.

Popped in the Transformers Bluray and hands down the best quality audio I have heard in a long time. Surround sound isn't as pronounced as the game but it's there and just awesome.

All said and done if you need a quality private surround sound system, look no further. You cannot beat the price.

The only con I can think of is that I don't use the chat function much and wish the mic was detachable. I also think you can get a set of turtle beach phones with this feature, but again for the price, who cares.

The processor feels very light for what I expected, but it does what it says and amazes me the more I use it.

Great for all your consoles

October 24, 2013

I own a PC, ps3, and xbox. Most of my gaming is done on my PC and these headphones work wonders for media, gaming, and skyping. If you happen to have a digital audio connector on your motherboard or sound card plug the dsp system in for a world of difference.

Pretty good for my first turtle beach

September 17, 2013

It is a great headset. It's good looking and it has a very good sound quality, especially with Dolby Surround Sound processor. It feels like you have a 5.1 home theater on top of your head. Every sound you hear comes precisely from the direction it was produced. Only bad thing is the install it's kind of complicated, but that's the only bad thing, and it is that much of a problem. Buy it, you won't regret it.
