Kicker CX600.1: Versatile and Reliable

Why Choose Kicker Amplifiers:

CX Amp Vertical Mount

Kicker Performance Audio has been around since 1980 and has been producing amazing products since then. Kicker’s drive to consistently produce products that not only are great but also push the standards of the car audio industry is very apparent in all series of their amplifiers. All Kicker amplifiers are CEA-2006 Compliant, assuring you are receiving a continuous certified RMS power rating. Kicker will always exceed the rated power because Kicker is notorious for under rating their amplifiers. So really you will be getting more power than you actually pay for, which is not true for other lower end performance amplifiers that generally over rate their amplifiers. Kicker amplifiers will provide a choice of three automatic turn-on modes; remote, DC offset, or signal sense, which make them compatible with any car audio system. Along with their high-density convection heat sink for extreme heat dissipation and high efficiency MOSFET power supply, Kickers amplifiers are great way to go when selecting the perfect amplifier for your car audio system.

Power Specifications - Subwoofer Channel

RMS Power @ 4 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 4 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
300 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 2 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
CX (Kicker)
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.
1 - Mono
Total Peak Power Output
The total peak power output is measured as the wattage per channel multiplied by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

It is measured during a brief musical burst, such as a sudden drum accent. Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal.

The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

1200 watts
Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

600 watts
Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.
4 AWG
Minimum Impedance Unbridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is not bridged.
2 ohms
THD at Rated RMS Power
The amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified. A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp. THD below 0.10% is inaudible.
0.1%
Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.
Yes
Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.

Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-Pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

50 - 200 Hz
Bass Boost
The objective of the bass boost is to get more kick out of your subwoofer. It is a circuit that emphasizes the lower frequencies at a given point. The bass boost should always be set first before setting the gain. This feature is known for destroying subwoofers and is commonly used incorrectly, so be cautious.
0 - 12 dB
Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.
Optional (Accessory required and sold separately)
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Excellent!!

December 30, 2013

I cannot say enough positive things about this amp. I had an extremely limited space for a subwoofer amp and tried this one mostly based on the dimensions. The amp is the exact same dimensions as the CX300.1 so I went with the this one figuring more power is better. I used it with one Kicker Solobaric L7 8" and it was way too much. I decided to have it run two L7 8" and it runs them extremely well. It could easily run larger subs but for me, again, space was limited. The amp never gets hot and sounds like it is much larger than it is. I would highly recommend this amp to anyone.

VERY impressed.

April 15, 2013

I Bought this exact same amp at Fry's because I didn't want t wait for the delivery. By the way, mines has a certified 671 RMS output. I have it hooked up to 2 12" Kenwood Excelon Flat Sub woofers, 350 RMS each totaling 700 RMS for both (which means they are under powered) and mannnnnnn do they hit hard! I also have an Epicenter hooked up to the amp. I never owned Kicker products before, because I thought the brand was too over rated lol, I now think different. I'm very impressed!

WOW READ ME!!!

August 10, 2015

LISTEN, alot of people bash kicker and stillwater designs. I bought this expecting little and got ALOTTTTTT this thing pounds. it only got a tiny bit warm when I went full tilt at 2 ohms for 2 hours straight. It's so clean and loud and puts out alot of power. My birth sheet was 693rms at 2 ohms. Also the ease of the hi level inputs is great just tap a button and boom you switch from low to hi level instanly. If you need 600rms or less buy this right now its worth the money!!!!!

rms matches my sub perfectly
David D on Aug 21, 2014
I'm planning to buy JBL GT-X1200 or JBL CS1200WSI Subwoofer, both the woofers are 1200 Watts SVC. Will this Amp go good for any one of those sub woofer or shall I go with Kicker CX300.1?

Kicker CX600.1
Kicker CX300.1
Kicker CX300.1
Best Answer: Go for the Kicker CX300.1. You said you were only buying one of those subs. the Peak power on those subs is an irrelevant number because those subs powered up to 1200 watts results in you blowing the sub 1/1000 milliseconds later. The RMS power is all that matters because thats the power that is necessary to operate the sub. Since both subs are 300 watts RMS power, You will need to get the Kicker CX300.1 because the Kicker CX600.1 will blow the sub. Both of these amplifiers start at 4 ohms. The Kicker CX300.1 is 150 watts RMS at 4 ohms, and 300 watts RMS at 2 ohms. When you buy either of those subwoofers, they will be at 4 ohms. Your amplifier will need to be wired for 2 ohms that way your sub will receive enough power from the amplifier. All in all, the Kicker 300.1 is the perfect match for either of those JBL subwoofers.

I'm looking at buying two Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12's, and wiring them together at 1 Ohm (wiring voice coils in parallel and subwoofers in parallel). Will this Kicker amplifier handle 1200 Watts at 1 ohm? I already own the amp, just wondering if I can continue to use it or if I need to upgrade.
Brendan B on Jun 6, 2016
Best Answer: Hi Brendan,

No, the CX600.1 is not compatible with two P3D4-12s. This amplifier - as detailed in the description - is not stable at any impedance below 2ohms, especially not at 1ohm.

I have 2 JL audio 12wov3-4 sub in box ,Kicker amp cx600.1 1200 w should I wire them series 8 ohms or parallel 2 ohms?
A shopper on May 15, 2016
Best Answer: The amp is 2 ohm stable and rated to output 600w RMS (same as the rating of a pair of those speakers), parallel them for 2 ohm total impedance. They will be Way less powerful at 8 ohm.

I sold my alpine2 12" r type because they didn't fit in my new truck. I have the cx600.1 amp by kicker, I had all four door speaker changed out to kicker as well. My boxes dimensions are
Width 55-3/4
Front height 8 3/4
Rear height 5"
Depth of 14-3/4
Mounting depth is 6" and 0.60 cubic feet per sub
Looking for kicker shallow mounts that work with this set up?

I purchased 2 alpine SWR-12D2 subs, and I am running them with a CX600.1 kicker amp. I have the speakers run in parallel at a 2ohm setup and have the amp gain set with a voltmeter to 600 RMS or 34.62 on the meter. Is this correct and can I turn the bass boost up all the way and control it with the remote?

Best Answer: Hello Juan,

First, I highly doubt you have the two SWR-12D2 wired in Parallel, that would drop the impedance to 0.5ohms and will trigger the amp into Protect. I hope, instead, you are wired in Series/Parallel. To a 2ohm load.

Moreover, assuming you've properly gone about the Ohm's Law vs Multimeter method correctly, you still CANNOT(!) "turn the bass boost up all the way". This will DESTROY your subwoofers. The Bass Boost is on there as a gimmick, really. If we could, it would not be used at all. Boosting a frequency is Never a good thing. We suggest leaving it at 0 and continue using your Remote to adjust on the fly.

Note: You have A Lot of wiggle room on those subs. Each one can handle up to 750w RMS with ease, continually. Right now you are running them at 300w each, so if you need help finding a larger amp in the future, let us know.

Ok last question. Will the cx600.1 amp power 4 Rockford fosgate R1 subs rated at 100-300 watts RMS. The amp manual says it's good for 600 watts RMS divided by 4 subs is gonna be roughly close to 50-150 watts per sub. Sorry guys this is my first audio system ever and don't want to mess it up, let me know if need something bigger with more power?

Best Answer: Hell Juan,

Please provide Proper Model numbers, so we can provide you Accurate information that pertains to your project. Unfortunately "4 Rockford fosgate R1 subs" can literally mean one of Many models. For this response I'm going to use the Rockford Fosgate R1S410. Each R1S410 is asking for 150w RMS; Multiplied by four, that is 600. So we're almost good to go. BUT, keep in mind the 600w RMS from this amp is at 2ohms. Which leads me back to the R1S410, which is a SINGLE-4ohm subwoofer, which means if we wire four of them together, we get either 1ohm or 4ohm final load (see link below). Obviously, this makes this setup Not possible.

How many subs can I run off a cx600.1 amp?
Juan G on Dec 2, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Juan,

You can run 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, etc... The number of subs does not really matter, As long as your final impedance is will within the the amp capabilities, and the power figures match. Obviously 32 is a hyperbole but isn't farfetched if I was to find 32 of a Speaker/Subwoofer that is only asking for ~18.75w RMS and I'm able to wire to a 2ohm final load, perfect match. [32*18.75w=600w] .
Ideally you don't want to run more than 4 Sub, because splitting 600w RMS amongst more than 4 subs just isn't very practical.
