Kicker CX Series Amplifiers

Kicker CX series amplifiers were designed by Kicker's expert audio engineers to bring you plenty of clean RMS power for even the most demanding system. Kicker engineered these amps to be ultra compact, meaning there won't be any monsterous amps that you have to design your system around, they'll fit just about anywhere. The CEA-2006 compliant CX1200.1 monoblock puts out up to 1200 watts of RMS power and is compatible with the Kicker CXARC remote bass controller.

Kicker CX Amps are Incredibly Compact Ultra-Compact Footprint

The Kicker CX1200.1 will fit just about anywhere, whether you want to install it discretely under a seat, hide it in the back of your trunk or mount it somewhere else. This compact amp measures just over 7" wide, 12" deep and comes in at just over 2" tall. With a footprint this small, Kicker optimized the circuit layout for the most efficient use of components possible.

Kicker CX Amps Can be Mounted Nearly Anywhere Mount Anywhere

To take full advantage of the compact footprint, Kicker includes mounting hardware which gives you the option of vertically mounting your CX1200.1 amplifier. With this hardware, you can install the amplifier nearly anywhere in your car, whether you're looking for an inconspicuous and out-of-the-way installation or want to mount your amp to show it off.

Kicker CX Amps Feature High Quality Components Staggering Technology

Beneath the high-mass, super cooling UV protected aluminum heatsink Kicker included double-sided fiberglass circuit boards, incredibly efficient Litz-wound transformers and TO218 output devices which provide high-current switching. Externally, the CX1200.1 features buffered RCA outputs, noise-shielding metal-end panels and custom tooled power connectors.

Power Specifications - Subwoofer Channel

RMS Power @ 4 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 4 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.
600 watts x 1 channels
RMS Power @ 2 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
CX (Kicker)
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.
1 - Mono
Total Peak Power Output
The total peak power output is measured as the wattage per channel multiplied by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

It is measured during a brief musical burst, such as a sudden drum accent. Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal.

The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

2400 watts
Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

1200 watts
Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.
4 AWG
Minimum Impedance Unbridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is not bridged.
2 ohms
THD at Rated RMS Power
The amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified. A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp. THD below 0.10% is inaudible.
0.1%
Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.
Yes
Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.

Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-Pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

50 - 200 Hz
Bass Boost
The objective of the bass boost is to get more kick out of your subwoofer. It is a circuit that emphasizes the lower frequencies at a given point. The bass boost should always be set first before setting the gain. This feature is known for destroying subwoofers and is commonly used incorrectly, so be cautious.
0 - 12 dB
Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.
Optional (Accessory required and sold separately)
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Kicker is CLUTCH!!

August 3, 2013

I have it pushing a Rockford Fosgate T2 12" 60 lb behemoth at 2 ohms. The birthing sheet said that at 2 ohms this thing does 1297 rms, so definitely NOT OVERRATED power wise. FYI kicker, Rockford and the premium amp manufacturers always UNDERRATE their amps, that's why they cost so much. Highly recommended.

CX1200.1 is a Beast in a Small Body

July 21, 2013

This amp is a very good amp I just switched from a hifonics brz 1200.1d to the cx1200.1 and I noticed a big difference in power output and it does not use as much power as the brz 1200.1d

The sound quality is great the amp does get a little warm (but I also live in florida)

It is a very well made amp very happy with it.

This amp makes a 12L7 pound

March 18, 2013

I followed the amplifinder on this site and then i decided to just browse amps and look at the specs. This amp did not come up in the amplifinder but fit what i thought i needed. I bought it, even though it made me nervous that SonicElectronix did not recommend it for my L7. Well, I installed it and everyone who hears my setup (12" L7 in a sealed box) cant believe it sounds how it does. If this is an entry level amp, Ive been wasting money on the "good stuff" for 12 years. I dont know about durability yet, I have had it a month. but ive run it for over an hour for as loud as the L7 can handle. It doesnt even get warm.

Solid amp

November 30, 2013

I used this amp to push a kicker L7 15. It did a great job, the amp was just a hair below what the sub needed. That still makes for an extremely loud system. All in all I would say pick this amp for those who want a good middle of the road system. Loud enough to be ridiculous but nothing close to hair tricks or broken windshields. As a side note, never put an L7 in a sealed box. 4 cubes per sub is a great rule of thumb. Kicker sub's love bigger boxes and ported. If you're running an L7 10 then 3 cubes. I tuned my 15 down to 28hz in a 3 cube box I built. Box was too small but it droned.

replaced dying Infiniti 1600a

September 8, 2014

replaced old 600rms Amp with this monster have to be careful with my Type R but like others have stated, it doesn't even get warm when its doing its thing to the subwoofers limits, might be overkill for the sub I have now, but gives me room to upgrade it in the future.

Excellent amp!

May 3, 2014

I bought this to replace an old MTX amp that I had which had gone bad. Overall I'm extremely pleased with the design and function of this amp. I increased my total power by about 1/3 yet it's about 1/2 as large as my previous amp!

As others have mentioned, it stays remarkably cool despite running it hard for extended periods of time. I think this will translate into longevity as my old amp would get scalding hot to the touch and I have to imagine heating to that extreme and cooling on a regular basis can't be good in the long run.

September 27, 2015

First off my 500 watt jbl destroys this in every single way sound power ease of use its a joke and sounds horrible people who give this a good rating clearly never owned a clean solid amp before. The pre set subsonic is annoying and the pre set 24db crossover I prefer 12db and you can't change it

I am currently running a DX1000.1 amp. I wanted a little more power for the new kappa 120.9W's I recently purchased from Sonic Electronix. The DX1000.1 has performed flawlessly for several years. I will stay with kicker amps.

Kicker is an amazing brand and everyone who has it swears by the name. I had a friend whose system was all Kicker products and it sounded amazing. I cant wait to receive it and install it. I will update (if I remember) once Ive broken it in and run it a while. Extremely excited.

what would be the best 10 inch sub for this amp have an upfire ported probox but the probox sub jus cant handle?

Best Answer: The CX1200.1 is actually a powerful little amp. It does every bit of 1200 watts, clean. If I were you, I'm assuming you are only running one sub, I would buy a 1000-1200 RMS or continuous watt subwoofer. The Probox is tuned kind of high, I think around 40-42hz, if I remember correctly, so be careful of paying frequencies lower than 32hz. That amp doesn't have a subsonic filter, so it may e wise to invest in a cheap crossover. Also, match up the internal airspace requirements for the sub and the probox. Get as close as possible. I can't really recommend what "brand" subwoofer to buy, but you will want to buy one that at least has the capability to handle 1K RMS. It will be really loud in the 40-50hz range, but you won't get the lows that a high quality 1000 watt woofer will give you. I would dump the probox and build a custom enclosure for the powerful woofer and run that CX amp on a crossover. Just my 2 cents.

Will this push 2 kicker 15" cvr the rms is 500 and the peak is 1000?
xavier t on May 17, 2016
Best Answer: Yes, it should work if you wire it correctly. The kicker CX1200.1 is rated at 1200 watts rms @2 ohms so as long as your final ohm value for your subs is 2 ohms, you'll get the most out of your amp and it'll work well and sound great. I did a quick search and I didn't see any single voice coil for the kicker cvr, so I would get 2 of the dual 2 ohm, wire each subs coils in series to get 4 ohms, then wire the subs together in parallel to get 2 ohms as the final value.

is a Kicker CX1200.1 with a 1200w rms too much for a Kicker 40CWRT102 with a 600w rms 1200w peak?
A shopper on Dec 9, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,

1200w RMS would obviously be far too much power for a 600w RMS subwoofer. However, the CompRT102 is a Dual-2ohm subwoofer, which can be wired up to 4ohms; Therefore it will get the amplifiers rated 600w RMS @ 4ohms, making it a PERFECT match! Good find!!

what are the power ratings for 2 channels, I have 2 four ohm l7s wired individually wired down to 2 ohms. Can I connect both channels and still get the 1200watt rating?
jessie h on Dec 7, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Jessie,

Unfortunately, you need to do a bit more homework on the setup. Starting with this amp, its a MONOblock, which implies ONE Chanel, not two. It is set up as a PRO amp, so it has multiple outputs, but it is wired in parallel internally. In addition, your L7 Series subwoofers are likely DUAL-4ohm. This means that if you give each subwoofer is own output on the Kicker CX1200.1 it will bring the final load down to 1ohm, which it cannot do, it is NOT stable below 2ohms. I suggest getting the NVX JAD1200.1 . It will provide you with the 1200w RMS @ 1ohm that you seek. Keep in mind, this is ONE Channel, so it is going to split the power. i.e. 600w RMS PER SUB. If you are trying to run each sub at 1200w, then you seek 2400w RMS @1ohm, that is a VERY powerful amp.
