Audiophile sound for my '15 HOnda Fit
Owning a sub-compact and wanting great sound is a tough proposition. Not much space to tuck away audio components.
While waiting months for delivery, spent the time researching for the right products. Aside from sound quality, the next important consideration was having a small "footprint". This Kenwood Excelon amp was the choice for its outstanding reputation and extremely compact size.
Sensitivity, frequency controls as well as installation are pretty straightfoward. Used quality oxygen-free copper power and speaker cables. There is zero noise (hissing or buzzing) therefore negating the use of any external filters anywhere.
Driving the Honda now, with its clear, undistorted sound, is an absolute joy. It may not be the most powerful amp around, but it definitely produces "audiophile clarity". Amp does get warm after hours of listening, but not HOT.
Power draw is respectable. The Honda's battery and alternator are pretty small but did not require any upgrades as long as the majority of music listening is done while driving.
Would highly recommend sound-deadening. At the very minimum, for vehicle's doors. In my case, I did the whole car. It practically eliminated wind noise and tire roar at higher speeds.
So far, its been 2 months since the install and the Kenwood's performance remains outstanding.

i just recently put this in my 97 honda accord for my rockford p1694's and pioneer components. this amp is so compact and powerful it accepts four gauge power and ground. i work at a car stereo shop and we sell kenwood products and they are very nice! i got this for almost nothing lol but if you want quality you have to pay for it and since this is excelon its way worth it, why are you still reading buy this amp now and you wont regret it!

I had low expectations with this amp because the car audio shop in my neighborhood said that the Alpine and JL were much better sounding.
They were wrong.
I never owned a Kenwood product. I had always bought JL's, Rockford Fosgate, and Alpine for my class d needs. This amp is powering my Infinity Kappa's with no - and I mean ZERO distortion. It has a more realistic sound and fullness to them that sets it apart from the rest. Whatever Kenwood did to these amps to make them sound like a Class A/B amp.. they did it right this time.
It can get loud as heck - all coming from this little chassis of an amp- it's tiny! I shook my head trying to figure out why and how this little monster sounds better than my JL HD600/4. Very impressive!
Efficiency wise.. it is almost on par as the JL Xd series of amps.. maybe a touch lower. It never got lava-hot while playing for a long time (3hrs) .. just warmer than its rivals (solve that by putting a fan on it and you are golden).
I definitely recommend. This is a lil' gem.. a keeper.
