Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
Terminator (MTX)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
12"
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Single
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
400 watts
Total RMS Power Handling
This is the total RMS power handling of all the subwoofers included in the package or enclosure.

If the loaded enclosure or amplifier and subwoofer package includes more than a single subwoofer, then this is the total RMS power handling for all of the subs combined.

The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend giving your subwoofer(s) 75% - 90% of the recommended RMS rating.
400 watts
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
800 watts
Total Peak Power Handling
This is the Total Peak Power handling of all the subwoofers included in the package or enclosure.

Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Polypropylene
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Rubber

Enclosure Specifications

Box Type
Represents the style of the enclosure. Be sure to purchase the appropriate enclosure type and internal volume that will be compatible with your subwoofer's recommendation.

Sealed - Sealed boxes are those that have no holes or vents in it. The only hole in a sealed box is where the subwoofer is installed. Smaller sealed boxes require more power than a larger sealed box. They provide a tight, accurate bass, while the larger sealed enclosures provide a "boomier" and louder bass.

Ported / Vented - Ported/Vented Enclosures provide an even boomier, louder bass, but less accurate then a small, sealed box. Ported enclosures typically require more airspace per sub and also less power output from an amplifier to perform correctly.

Bandpass - Bandpass enclosures make subwoofers perform efficiently, but loose. The bass is not as "boomy" as a ported enclosure nor as punchy as a sealed enclosure. Bandpass enclosures work well with lower to mid-level subwoofers.
Sealed
Number of Subs/Speakers
This value represents the number of speakers or subwoofers that the enclosure accommodates.
2
Box Style/Shape
The box style or shape refers to the actual shape of the box. Square and rectangular boxes are straight-edged boxes on all sides, whereas hatchback and truck style enclosures feature an angled front or back design that allows for installation in places short on depth such as single cab pickup trucks. You can also use such enclosures in hatchback cars or other vehicles where space is a premium. Tube and cylinder shaped boxes were made popular by Bazooka and are a great option for those looking for a nice amount of bass without sacrificing lots of space. They may even fit in locations that slim truck boxes cannot fit in. If the enclosure is vehicle specific, we encourage you to read the product description to find out which vehicles the enclosure is made for.
Square/Rectangle
Height
The height of the item, measured from top to bottom, in inches.
14"
Width
The width of the item from left to right (side-to-side) measured in inches.
29-11/16"
Depth
The front-to-rear depth of the item, in inches. If the item is angled or slanted, this value is the bottom measurement.
13-1/2"
Second Depth
The second depth is used only when the box is slanted or angled. This value is the top measurement and it is measured in inches.
11-1/8"
Wood Thickness
The thickness of the wood the enclosure is made of, measured in inches.
5/8"
Number of Terminals
The number of terminals the enclosure has. Each terminal represents 1 positive and 1 negative.
1
Box Exterior Color
The color of the enclosure's exterior/outer finish.
Black
Box Finish
The material used on the outside of the box. Most boxes are carpeted to prevent exterior scratches; however vinyl is popular as it can often be color-matched to a near exact look of your leather factory interior.

loud, but not great

April 20, 2014

I wanted to add bass to my otherwise stock vehicle, I decided that since I wasn't looking for a very in depth system a cheap set of subs would be fine. I learned my lesson, though they are loud and hit hard they are not crisp and clean like a more expensive set up.

Most affordable hardest hitting subs

November 6, 2014

I have a chevy cavalier and i can fit two of these rather large boxes in the trunk of my car back to back and they hit very hard i am very impressed and the sound is even better when i set the seats down just loud clean bass. I like to watch my rear view mirror just drop all the way down on just half volume. Its a very good price for brand new dual 12" i would recommend anyone who just wants really good bang for your buck. A++ rating

Great subs!

January 7, 2014

I got these about a month ago and since then, I've enjoyed these subs a lot. Great quality craftsmanship, loud, precise sound, everything I could ask for in a low-end sub/box set. I have no real complaints about the product. For the $120 as of writing, I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants a good starter sub set.

These really are Terminators. Smooth, Deep, even Crisp Bass. Put these in your trunk, hatchback, or SUV with the correct Amp and Head Unit, and it's pure audio Bliss. If you are serious about sound; buy these, and Enjoy! Plus, they are totally worth the price...

Good

June 14, 2015

Good speakers and good quality. They kicked off atleast twice after a month but maybe because of my amp quality. But over all they are great/good speakers to have. They knock pretty hard in my Nissan Altima. The bis couldve been a bit bigger for better quality.

MTX Terminator

July 15, 2016

Quick review - box is small and very light. Good for a tight space but does slide around a lot compared to my last box which never moved. Subs hit nice for the price. Amp that's pushing these is a Kenwood KAC-5001ps. 500 x 1 @ 2ohms.

Nice sub for the price.

June 29, 2016

I had a JBL GT-BassPro12 powered sub in the trunk of my 2015 Dodge Charger and I hated it. It was just too muddy and didn't have the punch I wanted. I ordered the MTX Terminator 212 Dual Sub and I paired it with an MTX RT250 mono block amp. It sounds awesome now and I like the fact that I don't need a remote wire to turn on the amp, it turns on automatically when it senses an audio signal (the JBL was the same way). I like the remote bass control also. It won't rock the neighbor's but it will shake the rear view mirror and sounds mighty good. I've had a pair of 10 inch MTX subs in my Dodge truck for over 10 years and they still sound great. I love MTX!

Being that this is a Passive enclosure - meaning, No amp - the terminals are intended for "hard wired" .

Can I add a sub remote to this amp? & do you think it will perform well with "MTX Terminator 212 Dual Sub (TNE212D)

Power Acoustik RZ4-2000D
Best Answer: Hi,

-Can I add a sub remote to this amp?

Yes, but not an OEM one. It obviously doesn't have input for Power Acoustik remote, so you would need to get a Universal Bass Knob, like the NVX XBRC. It'll work the same way, and is a very common addition.

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_40536_NVX-Universal-Bass-Knob-XBRC.html

-do you think it will perform well with MTX TNE212D

We assume you are asking if the AMP will perform well (not the remote). To be fair, we suggest an amplifier that is specifically meant for subwoofers, not a full-range amplifier intended for door speakers. Nevertheless, the figures do fall within that which the amplifier calls for, albeit barely. Still, we would suggest a strong, better equipped amplifier. Give our sales team a call if you need further assistance.

Is there anyway to use http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23376_Boss-Onyx-NXD3500.html
with these subs? Its the only amp I have but I'm not to sure how to match amps with subs. I already own both the Boss amp and these subs by the way.
A shopper on Aug 10, 2014
Best Answer: Although the amp is rated for 2700 watts max at 2 ohms, max power means nothing and it is highly unlikely that the amp will actually deliver 1350 watts RMS. However, you can avoid blowing the subs by tuning the amp to 400 watts RMS. This article should help you: http://knowledge.sonicelectronix.com/car-audio-and-video/car-amplifiers/how-to-adjust-amplifier-gains-using-a-digital-multi-meter.html

Best Answer: They are really nice subs. I have them with an 1000 watt me wood amp and they bump nice! I highly recommend them. I have blown them twice, but that wasn't due to faulty subs. I had my stuff turned up all the way. Other than that they work great and are a great product!

These subs have 4 ohm voice coils, but apparently have a 2 ohm final load(whatever that means). Should I buy a 2 ohm or 4 ohm amp? I'm confused.
Tom V on Jan 9, 2016
Best Answer: Hi Tom ,

There is no such thing as a "2ohm or 4ohm amp", so we can't answer your question directly. To the point, you seek an amplifier providing ~400 watts @2ohms. Give our sales team a call if you need help.

Will a Kenwood ps300t amp work with these subs?
nick w on Jan 10, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Nick,

The Kenwood PS300T CANNOT be used. The Kenwood PS300T is a 2-Channel, which already makes it unpractical for subwoofers, but the issue is with the Ratings; 100w RMS x 2 @4ohms , 200w RMS x 2 @2ohms, & 400w RMS x 1 @4ohms (bridged) . The MTX TNE212D requires ~400w RMS @ 2ohms, which the Kenwood amp is incapable of providing. In addition, if you attempt to bridge the amp AND connect it to the MTX TNE212D it will harm either/both components, because the amp is NOT stable @2ohms Bridged.

MTX TNE212D
Soundstream TA2.400
Soundstream TA2.400
Best Answer: Hello,

This setup will NOT work. Your Soundstream TA2.400 is a 2-Channel (which already makes it unideal for Subwoofers, but usable) which is obligated to a 4ohm final load if you plan to Bridge the Channel for the most power. However, the final impedance of the enclosure is 2ohms, which makes this NOT possible. In theory, you can give EACH subwoofer its own channel, BUT the enclosure only has 1 Terminal , making this not possible, and Each sub is set to 4ohms, making your amp ineffective. You need to upgrade your amp, or consider a different 'kit'.
