Subwoofer Specifications

Subwoofer Series
Each subwoofer manufactured is part of a series. This is the name of the subwoofer's series.
Champion PRO (Pioneer)
Subwoofer Size
Refers to the diameter of the subwoofer, measured in inches.
12"
Peak Power Handling
Peak power handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle during a brief musical burst. The RMS power range figure is a much more reliable rating for determining the speaker's power requirements. The Peak power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
2000 watts
RMS Power Handling
The RMS power is the amount of power the speaker requires to operate safely and properly. RMS Power Handling refers to the amount of power a speaker can handle on a continuous basis. We recommend powering your speakers or subwoofer with 80%-120% of its recommended RMS rating. The RMS power handling specification is typically rated per speaker unless otherwise noted.
600 watts
Voice Coil(s)
Dual voice coil subs have more wiring flexibility than single voice coils subs; however, single voice coil subwoofers provide easier hookup options for wiring multiple subwoofers in parallel or series. You may also run a dual voice coil (DVC) sub in parallel, series, or combination. A quad voice coil has four voice coils and is equal to two dual voice coil subwoofers as far as wiring goes.
Dual
Impedance (Per Voice Coil)
The load value (in ohms) that the speakers present to the amplifier per voice coil - the amount of resistance to the current flow. This is a key specification as subs wired in parallel or low impedances can create problems with your amplifier and potentially void all warranties. We encourage you to ask our support department prior to purchase if you do not understand which impedance level will suit your application best.
4 ohms
Frequency Response
The range of frequencies the speaker will reproduce (lowest frequency to the highest). Bigger is better, meaning the wider the range, the better. The optimal range is 20 - 20,000 Hz (which is the range of human hearing).
20 - 80 Hz
Sensitivity
An efficiency or sensitivity rating tells you how effectively a speaker converts power into sound. The higher the number, the more efficient the speaker and the louder it will play with the same input power. An efficient speaker helps you maximize your available power. Most sensitivity ratings measure the speaker's output with 1 watt of input, 1 meter from the speaker. Some speakers' sensitivity is measured with 2.83 volts of input, instead of 1 watt.

Efficiency (1w/1m) is not an accurate indicator of a subwoofer's output capability and should not be used as a comparison to other speakers or subwoofers to determine which one is "louder".
96 dB
Subwoofer Design
This is the design of the subwoofer or the opening of the subwoofer enclosure. Each design has it's own benefits, whether it is a square, circle, or oval.

Round/Circle: This is the typical and common subwoofer design. They have a round cone and are a circle in design.

Square: These woofers are able to achieve a greater cone area in a smaller space. Because of the greater surface area, some square subwoofers will be louder than a round subwoofer of the same size.

Round / Circle
Main Cone Color
This is the color of the speaker's or subwoofer's cone.
Black
Woofer Composition
Lightweight woofer cone materials are essential for efficient operation. Poly cones produce exceptional sound and are sturdy against various changes in temperature. Paper cones are very efficient, and when treated for moisture resistance, will perform at a high level. Poly refers to polypropylene, which is thermoplastic or fibers that are polymers of propylene. IMPP refers to injection molded polypropylene, a commonly used process and material in speakers.
Injection Molded Polypropylene (IMPP) Composite
Woofer Surround
A speakers surround is part of the suspension system. The surround protects the cone and prevents it from being displaced as it flexes out from the basket. It is usually made of a durable material like treated foam or rubber in order to withstand the strenuous job of producing bass frequencies.
Elastic Polymer
Magnet Structure
Defines the overall structure of the subwoofers magnet.
Subwoofer Grille
Most subwoofers are able to accommodate a universal grille; however, some subs include a grille and others have a specific, optional grille available for purchase separately. If "yes", then the subwoofer includes a grille. If "optional (sold separately)" the matching grille will need to be purchased in addition to the sub.
Re-Cone Kit Available
Some higher end subwoofers have replaceable cone assemblies. In case of a blown woofer, a recone kit allows for a simple replacement, as opposed to purchasing an entire new subwoofer.

Recommended Enclosure Specifications

Recommended Enclosure Type
This is the recommended type of enclosure that the subwoofer should be installed into. Some subwoofers are specially designed for particular enclosures.

Sealed: These enclosures completely enclose the air inside the box. These boxes produce a tight bass.

Ported/Vented: These enclosures have a slot of air to escape from the box. The result is a sound that has more "boom".

Bandpass: These are a combination of both sealed and ported enclosures. They can be very efficient, but require tuning for the best response.

Great sounding woofer

December 15, 2014

Set this woofer up at 2 ohms in a ported Belva box with an SSL 1500 watt mono amp. The woofer sounds amazing with very smooth and deep bass. Very efficient woofer as the amp's gain and bass boost are set at 1/4 . Definitely would recommend.

These subs hit hard, loud, and clear. One of the best subs I have owned. I had Clarions, Rockfords, Pyle, Planet Audios, JL W3 and many more. I do have to say they sound just as good if not better then all the subs I just mentioned but with a better price tag and higher wattage. TRUE STORY

June 9, 2014

Pros: great price, very good response, handles 600w rms, and very versital in different type and sized enclosures. Cons: none

I have three of these beasts in a ported enclosure each getting 500w rms and let me tell you they pound. Roof, windshield, and doors flex. Literally looks like my car's a chest and it's breathing. Lil tip is to get sound deadener

Great budget subs, they lack on midbass, and do NOT hold true 600 watts rms

November 14, 2014

I started out with the old Premier Champ subs back in 2007, and since then I have talked up Pioneer subs. These really are good subs for shaking your vehicle, and they produce some very good lows in a proper box. They do not, however handle power that well. I originally had them (2) wired 4-ohms to a 600watt rms amp, so they were probably sharing 400 watts. No issues whatsoever, but they could have been louder (scored 137.4Db in a sealed box) so I bought a 1500 watt RMS 1ohm amp and wired them 1 ohm and holy jesus they were crazy loud, but only for a few seconds before things started to smell. I never clipped these subs, I now have them wired 4-ohm to the 1.5k amp so they should be getting 600 watts, but even then they start to smell after a good 15 minutes of hard use. Even pioneer recommends using an amp lower than the subs RMS rating. But still, 137.4 Db is nothing to be ashamed of when you are talking about $80 subwoofers. Great product. Great durability (my old premiers lasted 6 years of hard abuse on my 600 watt amp before 1 popped a VC feed wire. Now I use them for my out-door tower speakers.) I definitely recommend these for someone who want good quality low bass on a budget.

Impressive for the money !

October 28, 2014

I bought two of these for my Ford ranger extra cab, and built a ported box five cubic feet net, not including port volume. Each sub has its own port tuned to 33hz and 16 sq in port area. I have a Massive Audio N4 loaded to 1 ohm, which is putting out 1444 watts at 13.5 volts, with box rise the subs won't get that much power. About a month of playing they are starting to sound better now that that dual spiders are breaking in. Needless to say the bass is incredible ! Flexing the back of the cab quite a bit. These pioneer subs "suspension" is in my opinion more durable than the new alpine type r sub which has a single spider. My last type r spider separated from the cone completely and then failed. Sorry alpine.

Sweet sub

June 19, 2014

I bought two of these subs to go with my 1200w rms hifonics amp, and what can I say other than that they are amazing for the price. They make my whole car shake and have not heard any distortion or problems with the subs. The only issue is that I received one of them damaged and had to send it back. But, I recommend anyone that does not want to spend $250 for a sub that has the same performance to get this sub because it is a high quality product.

serious bang for your buck

September 19, 2014

I have always stuck to high end brands for car audio, so with me saying that I went out on a limb buying these. I was skeptical about the frequency response maxing out at 80hz, but don't worry about it. These pioneers will knock your head off and keep getting great reviews.
I couldn't be happier with these subs, and so would you. I hooked two of these up in a 2010 jeep wrangler unlimited. I used a hifonics brutus 1200 amp, wired everything to 1ohm, sealed box slightly smaller than maximum volume recommendations. When I tell you these things sound like some jl audio 12w7s, I mean just that.

Nostril Vibration

July 6, 2014

I blew my Memphis MClass 12 running 300 watts at 4 ohms with an Alpine MVR500 ( great amp). This website had THE BEST price on this Pioneer sub after doing a week of homework. You will not find another sub within $200 of this one that as high a sensitivity (96 bd) & this much Xmax (13mm). I put this into my same sealed box (1.25 sq ft) & I bangs!! It's super clean but still makes your nostrils vibrate, which the Memphis never did. I'm running it @ 2 ohm @ 540 rms. Next I will be putting in a larger ported box. Nobody around here believes it's only 1 12 my RSX. I nearly bought a sundown audio 12, but after much homework comparing the specs, this was the sub for me & I'm beyond impressed!!! You won't be disappointed with this sub or with Sonicelectronix! They got it here in 2 days as promised.

These are awesome!

May 9, 2014

I upgraded from 2 ts-w310d4s to a pair of these. The 310s are a great sub for getting loud with minimal power required. I A/B swapped the 310s to these with the same box/ amp. The 3003s obviously draw a little harder on electrical, but without being broke-in yet, they are as loud as the 310s that have over 150 hours on them. They move the windshield a bit more than the 310s already, after a very short 4-hour break-in. The build quality is literally "impressive". You would be hard-pressed to find build quality like this under $120-150. I have seen $200-plus subs that aren't built this nice. They sound smooth and have a nice curve with a moderate-sized enclosure.

These AND the 310s are excellent products for their price. I recommend these if you have over 500W of clamped, daily power per sub, but if you have under 500W a sub, def go with the 310s. Also go with the 310s if you have a puny electrical system, and don't see yourself upgrading it, as the 3003s will draw a considerable amount. The 310s will shine under 500W per sub.

Great subs at an unbeatable price

March 25, 2014

When I got these, they were on sale for one heck of a value, so I figured I would buy them. To start, I have never dealt with audio before but my friends all had. When I told them I was going to buy some subs, put them together, and power them indoors with some server power supplies they laughed and tried to tell me all sorts of things. I'm powering these with a Hifonics Brutus BRX 1200.1 (great amp) and that's powered by two 750 watt server power supplies plugged into the wall. I live in an apartment complex and am scared to turn these all the way up, but they pound hard! All my friends are thoroughly impressed with the setup I have. I recommend these subs!

Looking for a alternative to replace my expensive Orion hcca 10" subwoofer. which is extremely heavy, robbing me of my performance in my honda. Absolutely. There is nothing suggesting you can't. As a matter of fact, Pioneer's Recommended Enclosure [Ported] volume is 1.25 cu. ft per Sub.

Best Answer: Hello Jason,

Just about all the enclosures we carry are Pre-Fab Universal enclosures, and NOT model specific; so be prepared to - at most - widen the opening. Luckily, the Atrend 12DQV is looking like a perfect fit, based on the specifications from both Pioneer and Atrend;

what is the difference between the pioneer ts-w310d4 and the pioneer ts-w3003d4 sub ?
ken s on Jan 1, 2015
Best Answer: Enter an anUpgraded to these subwoofers from the TS-W310D4 (400W rms) and these are rated at 600W rms, so that's an increase of 50% rated power.
These subs are dual 4 ohm, so each can be wired to 2ohm and 2 of these subs can be run at 1ohm if you have a 1ohm stable amp, which is how I run it.
I did a direct comparison of 1x TS-W310D4 vs TS-W3003D4 and there is an increase in output. Can't say that it is 50% more, but the bass is deeper and slams harder, really.
I recommend this subwooferswer to this question.

i was told that i shouldnt run one of these alone? because that way they are set up they do better as a pair. i was hoping to just buy one to replace the sub i already have. have you heard any thing about this?
A shopper on Dec 23, 2014
Best Answer: If the amp you are using is running the same RMS as the subs at the lowest ohm that the amp accepts. Matching the single subs ohms. Then yes this sub will be a great replacement even as one. Depending on your preference of bass tones will be a huge factor in this subs performance in a sealed or ported. Ported will be louder with less watts. But in my opinion the sealed box will give a deeper cleaner bass. . So if your amp is stable at 2 ohms then one of these speakers ran parallel will be perfect. But if your amp is stable at 1 ohm then yes 2 speakers is the way to go. Let's say your amp is stable at 1 ohm 1000 watts. If you run 1 speaker at 2 ohms you will only be getting half the power out of your amp. Might add well run two in that scenario

Power Acoustik BAMF-20001D
Best Answer: People two or three subs because the amp WILL push two or three. I have the same 2000 BAMF1 amp pushing two L7 10s. They are 800RMS a piece. When talking about amps you can never really have two much I'd prefer to have an amp rated for more power so you can keep the gain kinda low and still push the sub to its potential, but that's just me. If your just pushing that pioneer go with this amp, it will do justice. If you plan on two subs or more. I would go with the 40001D BAMF, because that has a bridge option and it's not to much more expensive than the 2000 BAMF. More bang for the buck is always better. And that 4000 watt pounds man.

I recently purchase a pair of these champion pro 12's. I am going to run them with a pioneer GM-D9601 in a sealed box. I wanted to run them at 2ohms each giving the amp an overall 1 ohm load. Is this the best way to optimize the power of the amp ? And if so, what is the proper way to wire the subs ? do I run loops from voice coil to voice coil on each sub and use 2 channels on the amp, or do I cross terminals from sub to sub and run just one channel on the amp ? the manual on the amp is VERY unclear.
ken s on Jan 8, 2015
Best Answer: Ken this subs. are very nice jest go + to + and - to - the amp will give the most of it at 1Hom If you have space for a custom box ported you will get louder and if build correctly you will get better SQ too good luck

this sub highest frequency is rated at 80hz that seems kinda low when compared to other sub woofers. Will this sub be able to hit all ranges of bass high and low? I ask because when i look at other subs in the same category they're rated around 200hz. Why is that? Thanks

Best Answer: Hey bro, I was concerned about the same thing when I was looking into this subwoofer but no need. Really what would matter the most is the box, I just have a universal ported box I bought a long time ago and I have been very happy with the speaker. I have a frequency maker app on my phone and the sub plays 100hz just fine as well as low 20hz frequencies. I have the sub hooked up to a pioneer mono amp running 600 watts at a 2ohm load.

What sealed box size does the manufacturer recommend for this speaker, and would this speaker perform well in a properly sized sealed box?
A shopper on Sep 12, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,

According to the manufacture;
Sealed: 1.25 ft^3
Ported: 1.50 ft^3
[PER chamber/subwoofer]

These subs will absolute perform well in its intended environment. Assuming you understand the sound you will accomplish by going with a Sealed Enclosure, a pair of these will provide a desirable SQ setup.
