All single-channel monoblock amplifiers from the Brutus BRX amplifiers feature NGSD Next Generation Super-D Class. This NGSD digital chip design in the amplifiers has been tweaked to provide an extremely efficient, low temperature, high amplification system.

Bridged Peak/Max Power

Bridging refers to combining two channels on an amplifier to create one channel with double the voltage and an increased power output. A 2-channel amplifier will bridge down to 1-channel and a 4-channel amplifier can bridge to create 2-channels. An amplifier is most commonly bridged to drive a subwoofer.

Remember, once you bridge two channels down to one its final impedance will be 4 ohms unless otherwise specified. This rating lists the Peak/Max power created once an amplifier is bridged.

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.

Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.

Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.

Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.

Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-Pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

Allows you to block (filter) ultra-low frequencies that your subs cannot reproduce.

Signal-to-Noise Ratio
This spec compares the strength of the signal to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise.

Bass Boost
The objective of the bass boost is to get more kick out of your subwoofer. It is a circuit that emphasizes the lower frequencies at a given point. The bass boost should always be set first before setting the gain. This feature is known for destroying subwoofers and is commonly used incorrectly, so be cautious.

Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.

Best Answer: Thats where the specs come into play.... ive seen some "better-newer" models have a shorter low-high range or something you may not have noticed before. Really when it comes to the same make and modle id go line for line on the specs, and then of course price, and then look. Dont forget anything over a 1000 amps, your gunna have to upgrade you power supply (battery alternator) to get the full numbers on the box.

i have a 0 gauge wire running from the battery to a fused distribution block is it ok that the output of the distribution block is 4 gauge is it ok to be 4 gauge for this amp?

Best Answer: It's ok if that's all you have but honestly you are better off running a 2 or 0 guage wire , using a 4 guage wont give you the power that you can get out of it and is kind of wasteful but like I said if you don't have money to spend its fine for now but I recommend upgrading the wire

I was wondering if this amp would be enough to handle 2 Hifonics BRX12D4 in a Honda Civic coupe with stock speakers and clarion radio cx305 any answers would help need to get more bass in my car and this box would be a good fit too? Thanks

Best Answer: As far as the box goes, it more than fits the needs of what I'm using it for. I have two Rockford P3D2 subs in it and it has an incredible sound. Mine is in the back of a Vibe (sport wagon) and it'll vibrate the whole car. I do not know how it'll do in a trunk but I still believe you won't be disappointed.

I have a jensen 1000 4 channel amp oowers 2 mtx 5/7 thunders and to killer 6/9 kickers.
I used many other amps all crap.only drwa back is the hifonics are large in size.I have 3 amps in my motorhome just kills it .good luck you cant go wrong

This is going to sound silly, but try to follow me here;
This amp provides two outputs but they are NOT two "channels". The amp is a Monoblock, so you are to assume the outputs come together within. So, if you were to wire a Dual-4ohm sub, in parallel, to one side, then a second matching Dual-4ohm sub, in parallel, to the other, your final load will be 1ohm, because THE OUTPUTS COME TOGETHER WITHIN the amp. If this is all too much to take in, simply use One Positive (+) and One Negative (-), it is the same exact connection. [NO ONE WAY IS BETTER THAN THE OTHER. YOU WILL NOT MAGICALLY GET MORE POWER BY DOING ONE OVER THE OTHER. IT IS LITERALLY THE SAME THING]

The BRX2400.1D is simply set up like a 'pro car audio amp'. Here are a few examples of other proper Monoblocks with the same configuration:

Best Answer: Hi Xavier,

As specified in the description: "1/0-gauge OFC power and ground wiring is highly recommended for installation, if running amplifier at 2ohms or 1ohm. Contact us for information regarding a discount on select amplifier kits when purchased together with this amplifier."

We have to stick with this recommendation. 2ohms MIGHT run fine with a proper run of True Spec OFC 4 Gauge power/ground , but you will likely still get a natural decrease in overall power output, because you are - after all - throttling the power the amplifier is trying to take in.

Best Answer: I ran 2 12" Rockford fosgate P2 and the amp was only at half before I got distortion. It pushes out tons of power. Those subs are rated at 400 watts and 4 ohms each

Best Answer: I have this amp installed in my Mazda 3 with a second battery about 2 feet from the amount connected by as short run of 0000 AWG wire.

I have 2 Sundown audio SA-10D4 wired such that the amps sees a 1 ohm load. The amount is unquestionably powerful, but unfortunately I do not have the test equipment required to test if the amp exceeds the rated power. I suspect it puts out the rated power but does not exceed it

I plan on purchasing one 15" Kicker CVX dual 4-ohm, will this be enough to power it without any clipping and distortion? I also want to get an auxiliary battery to run it to.

Best Answer: This amp has enough juice to more than oush 2 of those subs. If wanting to run a single 15 i would puck a sub that has either dual 4ohm with rms rating of at least 1500 wats or dual 2ohm with min rms rating of 2000 watts

I bought two subwoofers HDS215 Dual 4 / RMS Power 600W and Peak Power 1200W for each one.

I have two questions?

Do you recommend me to buy Hifonics Brutus BRX2400.1D?

Should I buy another new Amp for speakers because I am going to buy four Kenwood KEN-KFC6994PS ? it has 500 watts peak power total 2000 watts

Best Answer: What I'm seeing is that you are going off the peak power but you want to go off of RMS power. The amp you bought is very powerful you'll be safe running your speakers in series. If you wire it any other way you risk the chance of blowing the speakers I personally would go with the Hifonics BRX1516.1D and run the speakers parallel. Its a more appropriate amp for the speakers RMS power and more bang for your buck.

For your second question, those are very nice speakers. If you want to run those with an amplifier I would get a four channel amp. If it was my system I would go with the Brutus BRX1200.4, Because those speakers are at 125 watts RMS at 4 ohm. Thanks for the question. Gerald GCI.electronics

If I wire in 1 Ohm will this amplifier push 1000 watts a piece to 2 12" Type R's? If so is this a good idea and will it slam? I am currently pushing 2 12" rockford fostgates at 260w a piece and am severely unhappy with the lack of "bump". My highs over power the bass right now. I have an Alpine 4 ch amp pushing 4 rockford fostgage speakers that sound great but need more bass.

You were rather vague in your inquiry, but we thing we can assume a few things.

Two Alpine SWR-12D4 wired in parallel to a 1ohm load, will get the 1ohm rating of the amplifier, and that power Will be split among the two subwoofers. So, yes, ~1000w per subwoofer.

Is it "a good idea"? We certainly don't think so, considering the Recommend power range is 250 - 750 watts RMS. "Will it slam"? That is a subjective question that we can't answer, but we can say 1500w+ is pretty big power numbers and considered "well above modest".

Best Answer: Its rated 2400 at 2 ohm so I'm guessing 2000 rms at 1.3 ohms or maybe just under 2000rms

got my brx2400.1 install first day to a american bass hd15d2 wired to 1 ohm and after a few minutes the amo started smoking. i switched of an started again after a few minutes it started smoking again. it has enough current around 14.5V...after that it played a lil while and the whole amp jus smoked up. i took it to a technician and he said the mosfets were blown an a capacitor burst. what could possibly cause that?

Cable did you use when you installed it?
A high quality 1/0 is required like stinger or xs power
Or jl audio ... Even fosgate ..only reason I say that is
If your amp draws power from the alternator and or battery and there is resistance from too small of cable or copper clad aluminum which is the worst it will major over heating.. And make all sorts of things happen. So in short cable is important
I would then say what kind of alternator do you have... Because honestly it would take two 200a alternators to power this amp because of its efficiency .. Which is around 65%. When you do the math your amp will draw lots of current in order to produce the 2400 watts..
Then the last thing is your batteries.. Which kind you got and how many. Two xs power batteries would be perfect.. The thing here in this whole answer is you have to feed the amp its power before it makes its power efficiently meaning the amp doesn't get hot and start damaging its self and things around.. An Effiecently running amp will be realtively cool ... If after you read my answer you say hey no. I have good 1/0 and a great high output alternator and
Good high quality batteries then it could just be a defective amp... Power in car audio is like this in order to run bigger systems you have to have an abundance of power available if it's not available it becomes heat which can cause problems in your alternator.. Or components of your stereo. Or if the cable is not the proper size or quality it will cause resistance as I mentioned earlier. Which will become heat.

Best Answer: The brz 2400 is to powerful for the subs your looking at, the subs are 600watts rms each that's 1200watts rms total. the brz2400.1 is 2400rms rms. That's 2times the amount the subs need to move. Your looking for a 1200.1 amp. Your subs wire 1ohm or 4ohm. If you wire the subs to 1ohm and get a 1200.1(RMS) amp you'll be fine. Or if you wire the subs to 4ohm and get the brz2400.1 you'll be fine. (The second option is a waste of money).

Welcome to Car Audio. First, it is always important to provide MODEL NUMBERS, NOT descriptions. Here it isn't such a big deal, but there is no such thing as a "12 kicker L7 4ohm" ; there is , however, a DUAL-4ohm . Moreover, you are likely referring to the Kicker Solo-Baric 11S12L74 (S12L74) (or maybe the 08 version, but that doesn't matter much either) . Nevertheless, model numbers are important, because they give absolute Facts, where descriptions give assumptions.

To your question, the Hifonics BRX2400.1D is WAY more amp than you need. Two Kicker 11S12L74 are only asking for ~1500w RMS @1ohm , when wired in parallel. The Hifonics will give you 2400w RMS @1ohm. So instead, consider the Hifonics BRX1516.1D, because it gives you the perfect match.

Best Answer: hi there, im lee from united kingdom, I recently purchased a this soundstream amp ta1.2000d to power my 2 pioneer tsw 3002d4's 1000w rms spl subs, this amp kicks , sound quality is superb for a class d, its power hungary so make sure you run 0 gauge ofc or cca to it, but the inputs for power nd ground on the amp are very small,i had to buy knukonceptz 0 to 4 gauge reducers so I could give the amp more current but I even had to grind the reducers down a bit for them to fit.....I have a 150amp stock altenator with a optima yellow top battery running all knukonceptz 0 gauge ofc wire and it hits hard, I would defo recommend this amp for these subs,its sleak looking and does the job.if you can supply it with a good electrical system it WILL deliver.be carefull on the gains it can distort your subs.i also upgraded my wire to the subs too. hope this helped you out a bit.
