Bridged Peak/Max Power

Bridging refers to combining two channels on an amplifier to create one channel with double the voltage and an increased power output. A 2-channel amplifier will bridge down to 1-channel and a 4-channel amplifier can bridge to create 2-channels. An amplifier is most commonly bridged to drive a subwoofer.

Remember, once you bridge two channels down to one its final impedance will be 4 ohms unless otherwise specified. This rating lists the Peak/Max power created once an amplifier is bridged.

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.

Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.

Speaker Level Inputs
Speaker level inputs are commonly referred to as high-level inputs and vice versa. This input type allows you to get your audio signal directly from the speaker wire in your vehicle, instead of using RCA cables. The advantage of this is factory integration, as most stock radios do not have RCA outputs to run amplifiers.

Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.

Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

High-Pass Crossover Frequency
The high-pass crossover frequency can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable high-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies above the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies below the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

Will I have to use heavy gauge power and ground wires for the clarion XC1410 or can I just tie into my hot and ground going into the head unit?

Best Answer: I just used the power from my head unit, but I did have a premium sound with a decent amp built into the radio (I actually didn't notice much of a difference between this and just connected to the OEM head unit)... This was on a Pontiac Grand Prix with the option one step below the Bose system.

Best Answer: This is a four channel amp that has the ability of powering four separate speakers. And it does it quite well actually. I am using this amp to power my front and rear speakers. To get the most out of the amp, I installed all new 2 ohm speakers to maximize the full potential of the amps output capability.

Since this amp doesn't have a terminal blocks for your wires, do you just crimp cap or butt connect the power and ground wires from this unit to the extensions from the amp kit??

Best Answer: Hey buddy, my case I just checked on Honda owners veb site who make some amplifier connection to original Honda radio unit without change the radio. I saw some good explanation and pictures how to connect power and radio output to amplifier. But I have to buy some connection kit to modify for this purposes.
I recommend check your car radio and find your connection kit. Then find some correct information picture guided. Be careful for wire connection and not leave any cable open without uncovered electrical tape. You don't want any accidental electrical fire on your car. Good luck

Would there be much difference in sound quality between the line level inputs and the rca hook ups? Thanks for the help.

Best Answer: It would depend on your head unit. Basically when you use the speaker level input, that means you're using the speaker output of your head unit. So you're adding the distortion of your head unit amp.
Most head units which offer a line output (rca) will deliver a much better quality signal.
With this said, I am using the speaker level input of this amplifier with the stock head unit of my 2011 CR-V, and I have nothing to complain about the quality: it sounds great, no noise, no noticeable distortion.
I'm sure if you were to compare side by side with a line level connection you would tell the difference, but there won't be anything really bad using the speaker level as long as your head unit is decent.

Best Answer: This might be a little too big for a motorcycle fairing, plus being 4 channel. I think you'd probably be better of getting a more compact 2 channel amp.

Best Answer: Yes. Switchable between Flat (through), 60 hz, and 90 hz cut offs. I use mine on my Harley and at 80 mph I don't need bass coming through my speakers. It does a great job.

Best Answer: This amp have capability of pre amp and direct speaker connection
That means you can connect the speaker wire coming out of your stereo to one end and get amlifid sound on other end or simply use pre amp wire ( rca ) for connection

It looks like this head unit only has 2 RCA ports. Does that mean I wouldn't be able to install the Clarion XC1410 using the RCA connections because it has 4 RCA plugs?

Best Answer: It depends on how many speakers you are running. Traditionally most setups have Left and Right front speakers as well as Left and Right rear speakers too. Therefore you have a 4 channel system and would need a head unit that has a 4 channel output. Otherwise, you extra power amp only needs to be a 2 channel amp if you are only running 2 speakers. This Clarion XC-1410 is a 4 channel amp.

Is the speaker wiring harness on the XC1410 the same connection type as the CMD6? I am wondering if I can just unplug what I have currently wired up and plug it into this amp.

Best Answer: There isn't a plug for the harness on this unit. It's all hardwired inside the amp and they just come out of little holes in the case.

Are you able to bridge 2 of the channels on this amp? If so, what power output can I expect? O plan on using 2 channels for fronts and bridging 2 for a rear mid bass speaker.

Best Answer: There is no bridge mode in this amp.
From audio forum:
....The subwoofer is using the other amp in bridged mode. It's why I chose the Alpine unit over the similar Clarion XC1410. You can't bridge the Clarion but you can bridge the Alpine......

Can you remove the speaker-level inputs, or do you have to bundle them up out of the way? I will only use the RCA's. None of the manuals explain why there are two sets of RCA's; is it a front and back channel, so you can fade the signal?

If you must, they can be removed.

The two sets of RCAs is fairly self explanatory; the amplifier is a 4-Channel amp, which means 4 RCAs , i.e. 2 Sets . (We assume this is what you are referring to, let us know if its not =]) . Although fading has nothing to do with this, it can retain the feature should the Source have it.

The Clarion XC1410 is intended to run FOUR Door Speakers, it isn't necessarily intended to run a Subwoofer, especially two, considering its lack of power. It can be done, but you will not get the performance you seek. Please consider a MONOBLOCK for JUST the subwoofers instead.
