In-Dash Receiver Specifications

Receiver Size

Single DIN: 1 DIN dimensions will work with all single DIN installation kits we have to offer. Single DIN radios are the most common size for after-market stereos.

Single DIN slot with flip-out screen: The DIN stereo includes a retractable, flip-out screen. Before purchasing, make measurements to be sure there is no interference with dash accessories such as A/C vents or shift levers.

Single DIN slot with a larger face: Standard single DIN size, but the display is larger then the standard single DIN size. Due to the nature of the larger face, problems may arise when installing in particular vehicles. These stereos are great for single DIN slots where you want a larger screen.

1.5 DIN: This size is very uncommon in vehicles, however this size opening is most commonly found in Chrysler and Chevrolet vehicles.

Double DIN: Approximately 4-inches in height, this size is becoming more common every year. Prior to 2000, this size was typically only found in Japanese vehicles such as those made by Honda or Toyota. Now, it is becoming more popular for many vehicles to be fit with a Double DIN opening.

Double DIN
Remote Control
Allows control of specific features and functions from a remote control. Typically they are used to prevent button wear on your radio, or to allow easier navigation of menus.
Yes
Peak Power Output
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage occurring. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent, or low bass hit.

Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

50 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power Output
The amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS rating, the louder and cleaner your music sounds. The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.
17 watts x 4 channels
Preamp RCA Outputs
RCA outputs, commonly known as preamp outputs, allow you to connect one or sometimes multiple external amplifiers. An in-dash receiver will commonly have one, two or three sets of RCA outputs that can be used to connect external amplifiers and other components. One pair of RCA outputs will typically provide a full range signal that can be used for most subwoofer or speaker amplifiers. Two pairs of RCA outputs can typically be configured as four full range signals, or also as two full range and two subwoofer signals. Three sets of RCA outputs will almost always produce four speaker signals and two subwoofer signals for use with multiple amplifiers.
3 Pairs (Front, Rear, and Subwoofer)
Preamp Voltage
The preamp output rating is measured in volts (V). The higher the rating, the stronger the signal. This results in less unwanted noise being picked up.
4 volts
Built-In Equalizer
The number of graphic or parametric equalizer bands the stereo receiver is equipped with. The more EQ options, the more you will be able to adjust your music to your liking.
13-Band
Display Type
The type of display on your receiver refers to the monitor that is used to display the source information such as song names, radio stations, or track times.

Dot-Matrix Text Display: A simple display which uses dots in specific illuminated color(s) to light up and form letters or numbers that are displayed on the receiver.

Graphic or Motion Display: Typically found in mid to high-end receivers and give your text information and receiver more life by adding motion, backgrounds, or multiple colors to your display. There are types of graphic displays such as 3D Graphic, Motion, and OEL (Organic Electroluminescent) displays. They can range from one color to full color displays and typically allow you to select from one of many built-in animations, background images, screensavers or other graphics to enhance your experience and add an extra bit of personality to your system. Some units also come with software that allow you to load your own customizable pictures or animations.

LCD Monitor Display: Can be as small as 2" or as large as 10". Some LCD displays are motorized for angle adjustment. LCD monitors display full motion video playback as well as your standard text such as track status, radio station information and more depending on the receiver's features.

TFT-LCD Monitor
Display Color
The display color refers to the color of the text and or graphics on the receiver.

Multi-Color: When more than one color is on the display, for example one part of the text is white, while the other part is blue.

Variable-Color: The display colors can be changed by the user. If the default color of text/display is blue for example, the user can change the settings to where the color turns to red. Variable color displays are typically described in detail in the item's description.

TFT-LCD Display: In-dash receivers with a video screen that display multiple colors and often times video such as DVD, navigation or other video sources.

Variable Colors
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

Yes

Additional Audio/Video Inputs
These inputs enable the unit to receive an audio or video signal from a separate source. There are many different types of connections and ways to accomplish this. Most common are RCA Composite cables and 3.5mm mini-jack plugs.

RCA Composite Inputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

3.5mm
This is commonly referred to as a mini-jack or a headphone jack. It is a 3.5mm plug that transfers audio only. There is a right and left audio channel on the plug which allows for stereo sound playback.

3.5mm AV Input
These plugs look similar to the common 3.5mm mini-jack, however they carry a third channel dedicated for video.

Optional
This means that an auxiliary input is possible, but only with the use of an optional accessory. These optional adapters will sometimes use the CD Changer port or other port on the back of a unit that might restrict the use of other expandability features. These accessories are typically sold separately.

Some stereos work with iOS (Apple) or Android smartphone operating systems, while some stereos work with both or neither. Find out here which operating systems this stereo is compatible with.
iPhone (iOS)
Android
Audio/Video Outputs
Audio/Video outputs are typically used to connect an overhead monitor to an aftermarket stereo. This is the number of A/V outputs that the item has. These outputs are usually RCA Composite cables.

RCA Composite Outputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

1 Video RCA Output
Satellite Radio
This feature signifies whether or not the receiver is compatible with XM or Sirius Satellite Radio. "Optional" means while the receiver is capable of SIRIUS/XM playback and connectivity, you will still need to purchase an additional satellite tuner, adapter, and/or antenna.
Optional - SiriusXM (Accessory required and sold separately)
HD Radio

Receivers which are HD Radio Ready generally require an additional purchase of a separate tuner.
Yes (Built-In/Included HD Radio Tuner)
Bluetooth Connectivity
This feature refers to whether or not the head unit is able to connect to a hands-free Bluetooth device. Head units that are Bluetooth ready typically require the purchase of an optional adapter or accessory that connects to the rear of the head unit. This optional accessory allows you to accept phone calls through your head unit and speakers. Some head units have built-in Bluetooth hands free capabilities with an included remote-mount microphone or built-in microphone.
Yes (Built-in/Included [Bluetooth Controls, Adapter and/or Microphone Included])
A2DP Music Streaming
The Advanced Audio Distribution Profile will wirelessly stream music and other audio from an A2DP compatible device.
Yes
Steering Wheel Control Compatible
In order to retain a vehicle's factory steering wheel remote controls, a wired-remote input is needed on the aftermarket stereo.

If "Yes", then the aftermarket stereo is compatible with steering wheel remote controls. If an additional accessory is required for the steering wheel controls to work properly, a compatible piece will be listed.

Pioneer DVD

February 9, 2015

Prior to this purchase, I was looking at using my existing head unit, an Alpine single DIN CD/MP3 player with USB outputs (2volt outputs) and wanted something with more SQ that offered high outputs (at least 4 volts). In the past I have gone from a headunit with 2volts to one with 4 and there was a pretty big difference in sound quality.
I was going to use an Audio Control Three.1 preamp/equalizer, but they were out of stock. For the price, I could go with a headunit that offered 4 volt preouts and use the built in EQ/X-over and pay a little more so I decided to go that route. Upon researching the pros and cons of the single DINS (Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood, and Alpine), I ended up paying a little extra to get a double DIN unit instead of having a single DIN with a useless storage tray underneath.
After researching double DINs, I went with this Pioneer unit. I did a ton of research after narrowing down to Kenwood, Pioneer, and even Sony. I had a Pioneer DVD in the past in my vehicle, just not with the 4v outputs. For the amount of features and the controls you get with this unit, it's hard to beat! First off you have a built in crossover with various crossover points that you can control the cutoff points as well from 24db to 9db depending on the size speakers you are using. There is an equalizer programmed presets and 2 custom presets. You can adjust all 13 bands of frequencies, again giving you a lot of control to custom tailor your music to your liking. The only thing I don't like about it, is that when you are adjusting each slope, it doesn't adjust until you take your finger off of the "slider" so you can't hear the difference as you are moving it up or down each notch.

I love the real time alignment allows you to tailor the sound according to the size speakers and the positions. It doesn't just let you choose where you are sitting, but you can control the distance of each speaker FL, FR, RL, RR so that the sound from all 4 reach you at the same time for a balanced soundstage. You can program for all 4 seats, the driver's side seat, the passenger side, both front seats, both rear seats, or turn the alignment off. Really cool feature IMO.

You have backup camera inputs and you can add a game system too. I don't plan on adding an Xbox or Play Station, but I did use the rear camera feature that turns on as you put your vehicle in reverse and then when shifting out of reverse, whatever source you are using comes back up.

The Pandora feature is really nice. You have the picture of the album and can Fwd through if you want, give a thumbs up or thumbs down, and it will display all of your Pandora stations that you can select through the Pioneer unit. The only thing I didn't like is if you have a lot of stations, scrolling up and down is a bit tricky.

Other cool features: You can control the subwoofer frequency and the amount of output. You can choose crossover slopes and cutoffs to match the size subwoofer and increase just the sub output. You also have low, medium, high, or off for the loudness button.

You can adjust the output for each source you use (tuner/DVD/Pandora/etc.). Calling my wife from inside the car, she can hear me clearly without any background noise.

Others: DVD works great, although I will hardly ever use this feature. I mainly got it for the touch controls and to nicely fill in the dash where the stock unit went.

You can adjust the background and even add your on pictures if you would like. You have preset colors for the buttons or you can customize the color to match your dash lights.

Things I didn't like too much. These are very minor, but you can't turn off the beeping noise as you adjust the volume or adjust sound, menu options, etc. It is set to beep all the time. When I track up, sometimes the display will turn off because the buttons are so close together. The issue with adjusting the sliders for each EQ frequency doesn't allow you to hear them adjust until you take your finger off as you move the slider up and down. I prefer a rotary knob (like my old Alpine) versus push buttons. Again, these are minor things and shouldn't sway you not to purchase this unit.

Overall, I am very happy with this unit. I am going to include the other equipment that I am using because I hate reading reviews where the writer use using cheap crappy equipment to evaluate the product being reviewed. There is a huge improvement in my sound system that includes:

JL Audio Slash 300/4 pushing Alpine 6 1/2" Type R components for the front speakers and Kicker 6 1/2" coaxials for the rear.
Kicker 750.1 amp pushing a single Rockford Fosgate Punch 12" Stage 3 subwoofer in a ported box.

The system sounds crystal clear and thumps when I want it to. It really has improved the sound from the previous head unit, an Alpine CDE-134BT. I know it's not a fair comparison as the Alpine didn't have high voltage outputs and costs way less.

I was looking for a deck that would give me good iPhone integration, a DVD/CD player (not yet ready to give up my CDs) and no moving faceplate (thinking reliability). While I'm a big Alpine fan, this Pioneer deck offered these features at a good price. Also too many Alpine reviews about problems with phone integration. This unit proved to be easy to install when adding a wiring kit, a steering wheel control adapter, and a new faceplate kit. Not all performance is perfect (volume changes between modes are quirky, phone book isn't properly organized after loading from the phone, etc), but use is very acceptable. Thanks for a good product Pioneer.
Under my scores, Durabilty is ? - I haven't owned this long enough, but Sonicelectronix requires an entry...

Best value, best sound, best options

December 11, 2014

After living with a four letter brand whose name shall not be mentioned - and priced at only a few dollars less then this wonderful device - I can attest to the difference in thoughtful software design and user interface between the competition and this unit .

Everything about the AVH-X3700BHS is geared towards mobile audio enthusiasts. From DVD playback options, HD radio, USB external source device control (iPod iterations), EQ settings, time delays and crossover options, this thing does what every control head should.

My only "issue" is a momentary loss of sync between a digital source (like an iPod) when advancing or decrementing files - what I mean is, there is an occasional stutter as the DAC attempts to sync with the source - which (based on the unmentioned device) seems to be common in this configuration, but I'm not positive. Other than than that, there is little to complain about here. One caveat: I have yet to complete the install of external amps and sub woofer, but the expectation is more perfection.

Highly recommended! PS: can't speak to the "durability" rating because I haven't used it long enough to increase the rating beyond 3 stars.

January 19, 2015

I have mixed feelings about this unit.
Pros: It sounds excellent, has many features. I usually purchase Kenwood, but tried Pioneer this time and I love the sound. I have it running through a Kenwood KAC-7005PS amp. Installed in a 2014 Silverado.

Cons: I miss having an external knob to adjust the channels or volume. That is a big deal for me. I wondered how I would like a unti without it and it is big, but not a deal breaker. Gave Ease of Use 4 stars because no volume or station change knob. I wouldn't do it again, but that is personal preference, nothing wrong with product.

Nice pick up

January 9, 2015

Pioneer has once again made me happy. I upgraded from a single din pioneer deck and love this product. Bluetooth works great and easy to switch from devices (ie ipad to phone.) DVDs play great and sound is nice. Only issue i had was with shipping. My face plate got back ordered so it delayed my order 2 days. I would recommend this stereo to anybody that loves to listen to music on multiple devices or sources. I have not had it long enough to know durability.

Wow! This is an amazing head unit! Super easy to install with the wiring harness supplied. Huge amount of power to my door speakers, no amp needed for me. Tons of features. The interface could be a bit easier to navigate though.

Great Radio

November 10, 2015

I almost lost hope for this radio until I downloaded the the update the the Pioneer website. After that, this radio transformed into a mini command center. The Bluetooth is crystal clear for streaming music and making calls. The iPhone apps that allow free GPS (and other features) with the update are awesome. DVD player works great with or without the parking brake bypass installed. I gave 4 stars for features because there's a weird quirk when adjusting the eq; you cant hear the change in sound as your adjusting, only after you adjust. Also, I would have liked to see an extra USB or SD card slot. Overall great radio.

A shopper on Oct 14, 2015
Best Answer: It's new but was probably first introduced to the market around 2014. It will be unused and brand new when you get it unless you are ordering the open box version. The open box version isn't available for order though so you would need to purchase the brand new version regardless.

what do i hook the reverse wire up to?
A shopper on Apr 4, 2016
Best Answer: Hook it up to the feed from your back-up camera. You'll hook up a lead from your back-up light to the camera, the camera then gets powered up and sends a signal to your head unit via the input. Is that what you were asking? There should be wiring diagrams for your head unit and camera, pretty easy stuff :). Make sure you've told the receiver you have a camera by switching it to "on" in the video menu iirc or you'll see nothing.

Best Answer: It is back up camera compatible, It has the connection but you have to purchase the camera kit. I would like to know if there is an adaptor to connect the camera wiring I currently have? I was told no and that I would have to purchase a universal kit or the specific kit for this unit (receiver).

Is there glare on the screen when outside in daylight? This unit description indicates that the screen has some kind of anti-glare coating, so I presume there is no glare on the screen. I noticed one of the reviews posted by Robert indicates he installed this unit in his 2006 Tundra. I have and want to install into a 2006 Tundra as well. Please let me know if glare is a problem. Thx.

Am I able to use a SD card?
Marcus P on Jun 3, 2016
Best Answer: The Pioneer AVH-X3700BHS doesn't have an SD card slot but with all the options it does have, I don't think you'll miss it.The USB interface is awesome with total control and easy search of contents and folder navigation. The HD radio, Sirius XM satellite, CD/DVD, aux input, pandora and bluetooth to connect with your phone provide plenty of options for whatever mood your in. The 13 band EQ is what swayed me away from Kenwood. Paired with a Precision Power Phantom class D amp and Infinity Kappa speakers, all from Sonic Electronics at unbeatable prices, I have a rolling concert hall! I love this front end and highly recommend it!

Tim M on Dec 21, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Tim,

We assume you are referring to YOUR vehicle's existing subwoofer (?). Of which, the headunit does not do so, as that function is the job of the Harness to which your vehicle requires. With that said, give our sales team a call to make sure you are set up with the appropriate harness.

Best Answer: Hello Mark,

The headunit/radio is not in charge of retaining OEM features, that is the job of the available Harness/Module for your vehicle. Unfortunately, although the headunit is compatible with the vehicle, there is no harness to retain the OEM camera. We suggest consulting an installer for help.

How do I add an existing cd changer to this unit?
Donald G on Nov 30, 2014
Best Answer: Hello Donald,

There is a very slim chance that you will be able to. Being that CD Changers are trending towards obsolesce, manufacture no longer include proprietary 'CD Changer/External Source' control inputs. Therefore, if your CD Changer requires a Proprietary Connections and/or is an OEM CD Changer, then there isn't a solution to integrate it.
If, however, your CD Changer is 'Universal' , and simply asks for an RCA connection, then this Headunit - like most headunits - has RCA INPUTS .

If I add an extended warranty to this unit, what all does it cover? Does the extended warranty start after the 1 year warranty that normally comes with this unit? If I want to, can a Nav. Unit to installed in this radio at a later day? According to Pioneer's website, this unit has 2 camera hookups, how do you change from 1 camera to the other, then back to the first camera? I have a 2002 Ford F-350 4DR, Super Duty, with a Flat Bed on it, and I am going to mount 2 cameras on it, 1 on the rear, I am going to hook this camera so that when I put the truck in reverse it will come on, so how do I use the other camera, this 1 is going to be mounted onto the Headache rack to watch what is on/in the bed area? I like the information that Pioneer has on their website for this unit, and I believe that it will do what I want it to do, I just have the above questions about the Unit. Thank you for the above information?
Billie Wayne B on Apr 20, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Billie,

The extended warranty takes effect after the first year; so year 2 & 3 . It is, as the name suggests, an extension of the First Year of warranty (i.e. Parts and Labor) . However, SquareTrade is a bit different, in that they will cover shipping to and from them, along with other small perks that you can find information about on their website (extensive info).

The headunit is compatible with the Pioneer AVIC-U260 Add-On GPS Navigation System.

The camera inputs work very easily. You can read about, coincidentally, right in the manual on the manufacture's website. However, "Dual Camera Input" is slightly misleading because the "second" input is only an A/V input not a "camera input". It is intended to send ANY video signal to the headunit, like that of a camera. Only difference is there isn't a Trigger for that source, so it will need to be switched manually.

Randy P on Mar 1, 2015

idataLink ADS-MRR
idataLink ADS-MRR
Best Answer: Hello Randy,

First, the idataLink Maestro ADS-MRR is JUST a module, and - as stated in the description - "Compatible with select 2004 and up vehicles using one of the vehicle specific harness" . Unfortunately, there isn't a compatible harness for your vehicle, so an idataLink product will not work. Instead, we suggest the PAC RadioPro RP4-GM11 . It will retain the OEM Amp, SWC, Data controlled accessory, among other features. However, it will NOT retain the OEM XM Radio. Unfortunately, there isn't a harness that will do so. The best approach here, is to pick up the SiriusXM SXV300v1 kit , and migrate your current account to This tuner.

will this radio AVH-X3700BHS fit a 2000 gmc serria 1500 extended cab.?
CLAY R on Jan 15, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Clay,

Please use the website's Fit Guide; Indicated by the "Find stereos that fit your vehicle" banner or "Will this fit my ride?" link. It will indicate that no Double Din headunit will fit your vehicle. This is because no such dash kit exists. Moreover, a Custom Install may be possible, but for that we suggest speaking to an installer.

The manufacture does not provide information that will allow us to provide you with an accurate answer. Please contact their Tech Support. Moreover, We - not Pioneer - typically include Vehicle Specific Installation accessories, in the package, but these installation accessories are intended for U.S. Spec Vehicles. We cannot guarantee compatibility and/or fitment for vehicles offered outside of the U.S., no matter how closely they resemble. Please plan accordingly.

The option for 'F250 w/ Sub' is not asking if you are planning to or currently have an aftermarket subwoofer in the vehicle. The options is asking if your vehicle is equipped with the OEM FORD Subwoofer.

Do I need a Antennae Adapter for a 1999 Toyota Camry 4Dr Sedan 2.2 w/ Factory Amp?
Donald G on Dec 2, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,

According to our fit guide - including http://www.metraonline.com and http://www.scosche.com - your vehicle does NOT require an Antenna Adapter. This implies that your vehicle already is equipped with the "Motorola Plug" that all aftermarket headunits accept. Our sit will NOT load an antenna adapter for that reason.

Unfortunately, Mirrorlink is an ANDROID ONLY feature, of which DOES NOT need the Pioneer CD-ML100 to be accessed. All this is detailed in the manufacture's website, which I highly suggest browsing for Details.

Do I also need to buy a harness/housing for the stereo in order to put this in?
A shopper on Nov 23, 2014
Best Answer: Hello,

You aren't asking the right question, which is common so I'll elaborate. In the Pioneer box - for this example - the manufacture will have already included the 'harness/housing for the stereo'. What you may be referring to, however, is the Harness & Dash Kit for the VEHICLE. These "accessories" are vehicle specific, and Pioneer does not provide these; Obviously they have no idea what vehicle the headunit is going in. Therefore, WE at SonicElectronix set these up for you. A common vehicle [e.g. Non Premium Sound, Non Can-Bus, Non Higher-Trim, etc..] will NOT require you to 'buy' these accessories, because we offer up to $30 of rebates off these parts. The website is already set up to answer your question and show you these parts; Simply add the headunit to your cart, enter your vehicle information when prompted, and allow the accessories to be added along with the headunit. Said accessories is what is needed to properly install the headunit.
