In-Dash Receiver Specifications

Receiver Size

Single DIN: 1 DIN dimensions will work with all single DIN installation kits we have to offer. Single DIN radios are the most common size for after-market stereos.

Single DIN slot with flip-out screen: The DIN stereo includes a retractable, flip-out screen. Before purchasing, make measurements to be sure there is no interference with dash accessories such as A/C vents or shift levers.

Single DIN slot with a larger face: Standard single DIN size, but the display is larger then the standard single DIN size. Due to the nature of the larger face, problems may arise when installing in particular vehicles. These stereos are great for single DIN slots where you want a larger screen.

1.5 DIN: This size is very uncommon in vehicles, however this size opening is most commonly found in Chrysler and Chevrolet vehicles.

Double DIN: Approximately 4-inches in height, this size is becoming more common every year. Prior to 2000, this size was typically only found in Japanese vehicles such as those made by Honda or Toyota. Now, it is becoming more popular for many vehicles to be fit with a Double DIN opening.

Double DIN
Faceplate Security

Detachable / Removable faceplate security: The most common anti-theft feature. It allows you to take the faceplate with you, thus disallowing operation, which deters theft.

Security Codes: Mainly a feature in high end video units which do not have a detachable face / screen. Once the unit is uninstalled (or stolen), a security code (or PIN) is required upon reinstallation. Though you no longer have your unit after the theft, the thief also does not have your security code, which makes the unit useless. The hope is the thief knows which units have security codes and he/she chooses not to steal your unit because of the security code.

Ghost technology: This is not commonly used, but can be found primarily in a select number of 2004-2005 head units. It creates an illusion that no unit is installed by appearing completely black when turned off. Potential thieves may steer clear because it appears as though no head unit is installed.

Anti-theft covers: Similar to ghost and hiding faces because they only create an illusion that the face/unit is not in place.

ESN: Stands for Electronic Serial Number. Allows the disabling of the radio and allows tracking if it is stolen.

None
Motorized Faceplate
Some in-dash car stereos feature a motorized faceplate that moves to expose a CD or DVD slot. This is a convenient feature that allows the front display to be larger and easier to read. The positioning of the monitor gives you control over the angle you would like to view information on the stereo.
No
Remote Control
Allows control of specific features and functions from a remote control. Typically they are used to prevent button wear on your radio, or to allow easier navigation of menus.
Yes
Peak Power Output
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage occurring. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent, or low bass hit.

Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison.

80 watts x 4 channels
RMS Power Output
The amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS rating, the louder and cleaner your music sounds. The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.
17 watts x 4 channels
Preamp RCA Outputs
RCA outputs, commonly known as preamp outputs, allow you to connect one or sometimes multiple external amplifiers. An in-dash receiver will commonly have one, two or three sets of RCA outputs that can be used to connect external amplifiers and other components. One pair of RCA outputs will typically provide a full range signal that can be used for most subwoofer or speaker amplifiers. Two pairs of RCA outputs can typically be configured as four full range signals, or also as two full range and two subwoofer signals. Three sets of RCA outputs will almost always produce four speaker signals and two subwoofer signals for use with multiple amplifiers.
3 Pairs (Front, Rear, and Mono-Subwoofer)
Dedicated Subwoofer Preamp RCA Output
A dedicated output that has a built-in low-pass crossover for specific connection to a subwoofer amplifier that powers a low frequency driver, typically a subwoofer.
Yes
Preamp Voltage
The preamp output rating is measured in volts (V). The higher the rating, the stronger the signal. This results in less unwanted noise being picked up.
2 volts
Built-In Equalizer
The number of graphic or parametric equalizer bands the stereo receiver is equipped with. The more EQ options, the more you will be able to adjust your music to your liking.
2-band parametric equalizer
Display Type
The type of display on your receiver refers to the monitor that is used to display the source information such as song names, radio stations, or track times.

Dot-Matrix Text Display: A simple display which uses dots in specific illuminated color(s) to light up and form letters or numbers that are displayed on the receiver.

Graphic or Motion Display: Typically found in mid to high-end receivers and give your text information and receiver more life by adding motion, backgrounds, or multiple colors to your display. There are types of graphic displays such as 3D Graphic, Motion, and OEL (Organic Electroluminescent) displays. They can range from one color to full color displays and typically allow you to select from one of many built-in animations, background images, screensavers or other graphics to enhance your experience and add an extra bit of personality to your system. Some units also come with software that allow you to load your own customizable pictures or animations.

LCD Monitor Display: Can be as small as 2" or as large as 10". Some LCD displays are motorized for angle adjustment. LCD monitors display full motion video playback as well as your standard text such as track status, radio station information and more depending on the receiver's features.

TFT-LCD Monitor
Display Color
The display color refers to the color of the text and or graphics on the receiver.

Multi-Color: When more than one color is on the display, for example one part of the text is white, while the other part is blue.

Variable-Color: The display colors can be changed by the user. If the default color of text/display is blue for example, the user can change the settings to where the color turns to red. Variable color displays are typically described in detail in the item's description.

TFT-LCD Display: In-dash receivers with a video screen that display multiple colors and often times video such as DVD, navigation or other video sources.

Full Color
Button Color
Refers to the color of the physical buttons on the unit.
Blue
CD Signal-to-Noise
CD Signal-to-Noise Ratio is a key specification that is often overlooked by newbies. The CD S/N Ratio measures how well the CD player silences background noise. Higher ratings in decibels (dB) indicates less noise, and generally a cleaner signal.
70 dB
CEA-2006 Compliant
Amplifiers that have been tested to meet specific standards. When a car amplifier meets these standards, you can be sure that it will be able to produce the amount of power specified by the official CEA-2006 rating. Usually, these rating consist of the following items:
  • RMS Power
  • Signal-to-Noise Ratio

This rating applies to both external car amplifiers, as well as the amplifiers inside of in-dash stereos.

No

Additional Audio/Video Inputs
These inputs enable the unit to receive an audio or video signal from a separate source. There are many different types of connections and ways to accomplish this. Most common are RCA Composite cables and 3.5mm mini-jack plugs.

RCA Composite Inputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

3.5mm
This is commonly referred to as a mini-jack or a headphone jack. It is a 3.5mm plug that transfers audio only. There is a right and left audio channel on the plug which allows for stereo sound playback.

3.5mm AV Input
These plugs look similar to the common 3.5mm mini-jack, however they carry a third channel dedicated for video.

Optional
This means that an auxiliary input is possible, but only with the use of an optional accessory. These optional adapters will sometimes use the CD Changer port or other port on the back of a unit that might restrict the use of other expandability features. These accessories are typically sold separately.

Monitor Screen Features

Touchscreen
If a unit is touchscreen capable, you can control a majority of it's functions by touching the screen.
Yes
Screen Size
This is the size of the monitor on the unit. It is measured diagonally and in inches. The bigger the number the larger the screen.
Monitor Angle Adjustment

Backward:
This means that the unit is able to tilt backwards so that the proper viewing angle can be achieved. On single DIN flip out monitors, this type of pivot means that the bottom of the screen stays stationary while the top of the screen retracts. On Double DIN units this means that the bottom of the screen slides forward while the top of the screen moves down, resulting in a backwards angle tilt.

Forward:
This means that the unit is able to tilt forward so that the proper viewing angle can be achieved. On single DIN flip out monitors, a forward pivot keeps the bottom of the screen stationary while the top of the screen moves forward. On select Double DIN units, a forward tilt is sometimes referred to as a reverse tilt. The bottom of the screen remains in the same position while the top of the screen moves forward.

Left/Right Angle (Horizontal):
Some monitors allow the display to be rotated to the left or right in order to have the best viewing angle possible.

Slide In/Out:
A feature mainly found in select Kenwood units. It allows the entire screen to slide in and out. This is different from a forward/backward tilt in that the entire screen moves forward or backwards as opposed to just the top or bottom.

None
Display Adjustment
This refers to the many ways that a units display can be adjusted.
Brightness
Device Mirroring
This is the ability to "mirror" a device's screen (i.e SmartPhone or Tablet) onto the headunit's display. Please check with the manufacture's website for updated information regarding compatibility and cables required for proper performance.

Expandability Features

Navigation
Built-in navigation is a convenient feature that allows the driver to receive driving directions and guidance.

Some in-dash head units are built-in with the navigation features, while others require an add on navigation box. Other navigation options include portable navigation units that you can take with you or attach to the dash of your vehicle.

No
Compatible Smartphones
Some stereos work with iOS (Apple) or Android smartphone operating systems, while some stereos work with both or neither. Find out here which operating systems this stereo is compatible with.
Audio/Video Outputs
Audio/Video outputs are typically used to connect an overhead monitor to an aftermarket stereo. This is the number of A/V outputs that the item has. These outputs are usually RCA Composite cables.

RCA Composite Outputs
These are your typical red, white, and yellow RCA composite cables that are common among devices with audio and video inputs. The red and white cables are dedicated for audio. The red cable is for the right channel and the white is for the left channel. The yellow cable is specifically for the video signal. Because this type of auxiliary cable contains 2 channels of audio, it will support stereo sound.

This feature signifies whether or not the receiver is compatible with XM or Sirius Satellite Radio. "Optional" means while the receiver is capable of SIRIUS/XM playback and connectivity, you will still need to purchase an additional satellite tuner, adapter, and/or antenna.
No
HD Radio
This feature refers to whether or not the receiver is capable of receiving high-definition digital HD Radio broadcasts by either a built-in HD Radio tuner, or more commonly with the purchase of an optional HD Radio tuner box. Receivers which are HD Radio Ready generally require an additional purchase of a separate tuner.
No
Bluetooth Connectivity
This feature refers to whether or not the head unit is able to connect to a hands-free Bluetooth device. Head units that are Bluetooth ready typically require the purchase of an optional adapter or accessory that connects to the rear of the head unit. This optional accessory allows you to accept phone calls through your head unit and speakers. Some head units have built-in Bluetooth hands free capabilities with an included remote-mount microphone or built-in microphone.
Yes (Built-in/Included [Bluetooth Controls, Adapter and/or Microphone Included])
A2DP Music Streaming
The Advanced Audio Distribution Profile will wirelessly stream music and other audio from an A2DP compatible device.
Yes
Steering Wheel Control Compatible
In order to retain a vehicle's factory steering wheel remote controls, a wired-remote input is needed on the aftermarket stereo.

If "Yes", then the aftermarket stereo is compatible with steering wheel remote controls. If an additional accessory is required for the steering wheel controls to work properly, a compatible piece will be listed.

Yes
CD Changer Controls
This feature signifies whether or not the receiver has the ability to control a CD Changer. If a receiver supports this function, it is usually compatible with a same-brand CD changer without the need for an extra adapter.
No

Does this have stereo have the video bypass?
A shopper on Jul 28, 2015
Best Answer: Hello,

No headunit has a 'video bypass' built in, per say. There is a headunit out there that has a sneaky way of doing so, but manufacture's are obligated to NOT allow for the Video Security feature to be bypassed. Obviously we know how, but its not encouraged, and cannot be advised.

is this compatible to android phones??
Blake on Oct 30, 2014
Best Answer: By compatible, do you mean USB compatible? You can steam music through Bluetooth to the head unit but you cannot plug your android device into the head unit for any purpose. If I recall, I couldn't even charge my old HTC Vivid android device from the head unit. I did regularly stream via Bluetooth though and the quality was as good as through 3.5mm AUX.

Can you make it display the clock always? I bougt the 752UAB and you cant on that one, although its not a touch screen. Also how responsive is the screen. And will it switch to the backup camera automatically when you turn on the camera? thanks
Chuck D on Feb 16, 2015
Best Answer: the time is always on display on the top right of the screen, there is a mode to put the clock as a display. The touch is amazing for the price, i have the remote but i prefer using the touch screen cause its faster. The back up camera has to be connect to ur back up light and it comes on automatically when u put the vehicle in reverse

Does a bluetooth device (in my case an iphone 6s) have to be manually connected each time or will it auto connect if BT is turned on?
Chris R on May 3, 2016
Best Answer: Auto Connects when turned on, works pretty good. You can make calls with it, use Siri, or play music/audiobooks. (via bluetooth, streaming audio, you have play/pause , next, previous). Sometimes if you turn your phones bluetooth off then on, or walk away from your running car, you need to turn the stereo off and on again to see the phone.

What are the subwoofer and speaker controls like in this unit?
derek c on Feb 17, 2015
Best Answer: I will adfd that the controls for subs and speakers are on point! without remote you can easily press the large silver button in a few times to scroll through Bass, Treble, Balance and Fade. But going into setting you can adjust the Bluetooth (mainly for when a call comes in it can be set to a comfortable level) and bass can be madly adjusted!!!

so if i purchase this for my 2003 g35 coupe and i have a stock radio system already in the car, will this come with a kit and everything and right fit to fit in my car?
dacoolazn on Oct 7, 2016
Best Answer: With the purchase of a new radio, we will provide the customer the vehicle specific wire harness and dash kit for free up to a $30 value. Unfortunately it appears that your vehicle does require a premium dash kit that exceeds the limit we can cover. In this case we would be able to offer you $30 off the price of the dash kit and wire harness and you would be responsible for covering the balance. These are the installation accessories that you will need.

I have a 2005 Malibu and this car sends driver information to the radio display. Does this unit (or any 3rd party) display this information (i.e. distance driven, KM/100L etc) or would I lose this?
gdrnr01 on May 23, 2016
Best Answer: This unit will not. To my knowledge not many do, maybe the higher end ones will. Some modules have steering wheel control capability and you have to "teach" your deck how to control your volume and stations etc. From steering wheel.
Factory radios are very specific and tailored to your exact vehicle which makes it hard for aftermarket to replicate to work on all vehicles. Hope this helps!

A shopper on Aug 13, 2015
Best Answer: Where did you get that message informing you that radio wouldn't work ? Because that in dash should fit because your car in able to hold a double din size radio. All you need to do when but the radio make sure you get the right install kit for it. And I would recommend getting the pac controlpro or the axxess asexual-1 to keep all the car factory features such as steering wheel volume and hands free. It's a bit pricey but I think we'll worth the buy. And the back up camera is a breeze. When hooking up the camera. It's normal positive with pos and negative with negi. The only thing you'd have to do is get a wire from the reverse light to the wire to the back of the radio. So when you put the car in reverse the sends power back to that wire to change the screen to the camera. If you have any more question let me know and id be more than willing to assist

Is this radio compatible to steering wheel controls on a 2013 gmc 2500?
A shopper on Mar 1, 2015
Best Answer: I can't say for sure, however you can program each button through the radio itself. sonic sold me a $60 interface I didn't even need. I installed it on a Toyota Corolla, but because you can program each steering wheel control from the radio I would say yes go for it.

What speakers sound best for this stereo with out having to add a amp?
A shopper on Jul 30, 2016
Best Answer: You may not need new speakers, since the speakers I had in my Toyota Solara didn't sound very powerful with the original radio system, but once I installed the Boss system the sound is amazing.

What all equipment do I need to install the Boss BV9362BI into a 2006 Ford F-150?
A shopper on Dec 7, 2015
Best Answer: I have a Five Hundred Limited and a friend put this in for me and I don't recall him needing me to purchase any extra other than a antenna converter part but I will add that the stock power works with it. the antenna is very snug to fit so antenna converter MAY be needed.
Mainly you will need electrical tape and wire connector/protector tips (those little red things you screw on to two or more open wires to protect it

I am looking for a stereo/dvd player like the boss bv9362bi and I would leave me to know if the dvd player will play Dave's while I am driving so my kids can be occupied. Also can the headrest monitors you sell work with this stereo?
Doug K on Nov 27, 2015
Best Answer: Hi Doug.

- I would leave me to know if the dvd player will play Dave's while I am driving so my kids can be occupied

There is NO headunit on the market that allows for video to be played while in motion. It is a liability that manufacturers care not to take part in. Most headunits can be installed in such a way that the safety feature is bypassed, but we cannot detail how that is done. We suggest consulting your installer.

- Also can the headrest monitors you sell work with this stereo?

Yes. All of them.

I have a non-navigation 2005 jeep grand cherokee. So i will need to buy a navigation install kit for this stereo to fit. What install kit will fit with this stereo and dash trim kit in my car?
Logan C on Sep 10, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Logan,

Unfortunately, there isn't a kit for your application.

The only possible option is the Metra 99-6510. However, using this kit in vehicles without factory navigation requires the purchase of a factory navigation radio trim panel from your local Chrysler, Dodge or Jeep parts department.

I already have aftermarket amp and sub but still factory radio (paid to have installed) how do I replace the radio with this one? I have a 2007 Chevy cobalt completely base model
Drew o on Feb 18, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Drew,

It is impossible to know what your installer did to integrate your setup; However, the most common method would be the use of an LOC (line out converter) which Still requires RCAs to make a connection to the Amp. So , this being the case, you will simply run your RCAs to the Headunit, and throw away the LOC. In regards to the Vehicle; Simply add the headunit to your cart, enter your vehicle information when prompted, and allow the accessories to be added along with the headunit. Said accessories is what is needed to properly install the headunit.

Compatible, yes. However, if you mean FIT , no because your vehicle will not accommodate a Double Din headunit, unless you are planning a custom install. Please use the website's fit guide to filter through the single din headunits that fit your vehicle.

Will this fit a 1997 ford f-150?
gabobby on Feb 4, 2015
Best Answer: Hello Bobby,

Any double din headunit can be made to fit in that vehicle. The install is so common, that a dash kit exists, the Metra 95-5818. Sub dash modifications are necessary to use this dash kit. You will need to trim the sub dash to gain suitable depth and height. Go ahead and add the headunit to your cart, enter your vehicle information when prompted, and allow the accessories to be added along with the headunit. Said accessories is what is needed to properly install the headunit.
