Brutus Series Amplifiers

When it is time for some serious power for your car audio system, Hifonics is the way to go. The Brutus Series Amplifiers are in line with the high power output that Hifonics is known for.

Incorporating Super D-Class circuitry allows for dedicated, efficient power for higher bass response without sacrificing sound pressure. The Ultra-Fi MOSFET outputs chosen for the Brutus Series are typically used for music production where high power, efficient cooling and minimal distortion are key. They allow these amps to produce high power with minimal distortion.

The included bass knob can allow you to adjust your bass to match any genre of music you listen to. The Brutus Series also has RCA outputs for daisy chaining multiple amps together for even more power. Designed to get loud, the Brutus Series Amplifiers are ideal for a pounding audio system!

Power Specifications - Subwoofer Channel

RMS Power @ 4 ohms
The RMS power rating is the measure of continuous power that an amplifier can output, or a speaker can handle. It is the most accurate depiction of real, continuous power that the industry has so far. If the final impedance of your speaker(s) or subwoofer(s) equals 4 ohms, this is how much power this amplifier will supply at that ohm level. The higher the RMS wattage, the more clean and loud your music will sound. The 5th channel on these particular amplifiers are usually dedicated for driving subwoofers.

Peak Power @ 4 ohm
This form of power rating refers to the maximum amount of power an electronic device can handle or output in an instant without damage occurring. Often times this maximum is achieved during a brief musical burst, such as a drum accent, or low bass hit.

Some manufacturers display peak power ratings on the face of their products to increase the appeal to consumers. The RMS power rating is more accurate, and we recommend using it for product comparison. However, some manufacture's do not provide an RMS figure and therefore one cannot be advertised.

Amplifier Specifications

Amplifier Series
This designates the series of the amplifier. Many amps are available in a litany of different wattage and channel configurations, but maintain consistent features throughout the product line.
Brutus (Hifonics)
Amplifier Class

An amplifier increases the power of the signal being fed to it by taking energy from its power supply and matching the signal but increasing its amplitude. Amplifiers use many different methods for converting these electrical signals and have been categorized into classes.

Class A/B: Greater than 50% of the input signal is amplified while the other percentage is “off”. These amplifiers have a small amount of current flowing through the output transistors all the time which almost eliminates crossover distortion. Class A/B has great sound quality but is not as efficient as class D. These amps are most commonly used to drive speakers.

Class D: Also known as switching amplifiers, class D amps have output transistors that are completely turned “on” or “off”. This means that when the transistors are on, there is almost no voltage across them but when they are off there is significant voltage but no current flowing through it which makes these amplifiers very efficient at the cost of sound quality. These amps are most commonly used to drive subwoofers.

Other Classes: You may see classes such as GH, bD, X, FD, etc. by some manufactures. These amplifiers tend to be either class A/B, D or a hybrid of the two but with improvements to their designs that can make them more efficient or offer better sound quality.

D
Number of Channels
Each channel on an amplifier will power one speaker using a positive and negative cable. There are various types of amplifiers, each designed to power a certain number of speakers. Monoblock amplifiers, also known as single channel, are designed to power one or more subwoofers. These amplifiers often have very high power ratings. On the other hand, multi-channel amplifiers power multiple speakers, usually at lower power ratings. 2-Channel and 4-Channel amplifiers can power car speakers or low powered subwoofers. Occasionally you might see a 5 or 6-channel amplifier that can power speakers and subwoofers at the same time. The most common setup is a monoblock amp to run subwoofers and a 4-channel amp to run door speakers. Check out our Knowledge Base for more information.

Total RMS Power Output
Total RMS power is measured by multiplying RMS power per channel by the number of channels, and is calculated at the lowest level of operating impedance.

RMS power is the amount of continuous power, measured in watts, that an amplifier produces is called RMS power. The higher the RMS figure, the louder and cleaner your music sounds.

The RMS output figure is much more accurate than the peak rating when comparing products.

1100 watts
Maximum Input Gauge Size
This is the largest gauge wire that will fit into the power and ground terminals of this device. The lower the gauge number, the thicker the wire is. For example, a 4 gauge wire is thicker than an 8 gauge wire and thus has higher current carrying capacity. Always do your best to get this size wire to reduce the risk of damage to your components.
4 AWG
Minimum Impedance Unbridged
The lowest impedance the amplifier will handle when it is not bridged.
1 ohms
THD at Rated RMS Power
The amount of change in harmonic content of the signal as it is amplified. A lower figure indicates less change and a more accurate amp. THD below 0.10% is inaudible.
.10%
Preamp Outputs
Many amplifiers are equipped with RCA preamp outputs which pass the original music signal from the source to additional amplifiers. This is known as daisy chaining because the source connects to the first amp, and the first amp connects to the second amp, etc. The advantage to daisy chaining is you only need one 2-channel RCA cable to transfer the signal from the head-unit to the amplifier, and then one additional cable for each amp being daisy chained.

Built-in Crossover

A crossover is a type of filtering system that permits only certain frequencies to play. A Low-Pass (LP) crossover allows only frequencies below its setting to get through which is good in the case of some subwoofers. A High-Pass(HP) filter allows frequencies above its setting to pass through, this is normally used on speakers.

When a crossover is set to FULL it means no filtering is added and the full frequency spectrum is allowed through the amplifier. Filtering is important because feeding a speaker frequencies it cannot reproduce effectively creates distortion.

Low-Pass (LP)
Low-Pass Crossover Frequency
The low-pass crossover frequency is typically used for subwoofers. It can be a fixed crossover point or a variable crossover range. A variable low-pass crossover allows you to select a specific crossover point which allows frequencies below the set crossover point to pass, while making frequencies above the set point gently or harshly roll-off, depending on the steepness of the slope.

The steepness of the roll-off slope is measured in dB/octave and refers to the rate of attenuation (lowering of volume) outside their pass bands.

35 - 250 Hz
Subsonic Filter
Allows you to block (filter) ultra-low frequencies that your subs cannot reproduce.
15 - 35 Hz
Signal-to-Noise Ratio
This spec compares the strength of the signal to the level of background noise. A higher value indicates less background noise.
95 dB
Bass Boost
The objective of the bass boost is to get more kick out of your subwoofer. It is a circuit that emphasizes the lower frequencies at a given point. The bass boost should always be set first before setting the gain. This feature is known for destroying subwoofers and is commonly used incorrectly, so be cautious.
0 - 10 dB
Bass/Gain Remote
If the amp comes with a bass/gain remote you will be able to control the level of your bass from your dashboard. Typically bass remotes also include a 16-20 ft. wire for installation.
Yes
Fuse Rating
The amperage and the number of fuse(s) an amp requires.
60A x 1
Strappable
Some amplifiers can be "strapped" together in order to increase the output of a single audio channel. These amplifiers feature RCA preamp outputs, allowing you to pass the signal directly from one amp to the other to ensure consistency.
No
Hi-Res Audio Compatible
This feature refers to if the product is capable of Hi-Res Audio (HRA) playback.

Nice, but......................

June 24, 2015

First of all let me say that I do like this amp, from the features to the illumination, to the overall capacity of the amp. This amp is currently running two NVX VCW124's at a steady 1 ohm load. I have the subs in a ported box tuned for 38hz with 2.25cu-ft per chamber, so I am pushing 550W RMS to each speaker, and it sounds amazing.............that is........until.....the amp overheats. I have lined my trunk with dynamat to help with sound quality, spl and temperature also. Now I am not trying to dog this amp one bit, but overheating?!?! Really? So to help with this method i have modified the amp slightly with two fans that I attached to the back side of the amp (keep in mind my amp is sitting on a slant with nothing behind it). So far so good. I ran those fans on one individual ground separated from my car audio, and connected those fans with an ignition power wire so the current is not drawn from the remote wire running from my Clarion head unit, keeping the mAmp usage low so the circuit on the deck doesn't burn up. So far to the date after the mod no overheating after only 20 minutes of play time. So at this current time I like the amp but it does have some set backs.

New hifonics BRX lime rumbles

June 22, 2015

You are getting a clean 1000 watts into 1 ohm with this amp... looks like the improved the primary stage on this model to make it a touch more efficient. Best amp you can buy in this price range. Not DC AUDIO level at all... but its midrange..and value... way way way better than any of the crap from BOSS or Power Acoustik.

BRX 1116.1D

September 16, 2015

This Hifonics amp has the excellent appearance of all the Brutus amplifiers. It is rounder than its predecessor "BRX 1100.1D". One thing I noticed is that the newer "BRX 1116.1D" only has 1 60A fuse where as the predecessor is equipped with 2 60A fuses. It may be just me but that gives me the feeling that the predecessor is more powerful. I also prefer the more square look of the previous model.

Great Amplifier For a Good Price.

October 4, 2015

I was recommended this amplifier by one of the Sonic staff (I forgot his name). I have to say that this amplifier is great so far, no issue or anything. It sounds great with the Hifonics subwoofers. I like the design, it's great. I don't really care much about loud system, not in it for the competition. I just want a good system with good sound quality. I brought this as a temporary.... Soon or later, I'll be getting something different.

Alright amp. Fot the same money, I would go with the brx1100.1d

May 21, 2016

Its not cea compliant. While its a good amp, it is not a full 1100 watts. For the same amount , you can get the brx1100.1D and its a true 1100 watts.

Not Everything that it seems.

March 18, 2016

Purchased the amp hoping to get the true 1100 RMS at 1 Ohm, using the proper 4 gauge wire recommended and 10 gauge speaker wire i had to crank the settings all the way to get anywhere near loud. I would not recommend getting this if you are intending on using it for anything below 4 ohms.

Its CEA 2006 Compliant, well built, and decently priced.
Stephen H on Oct 2, 2016
Highly recommended to me and it is a Monoblock which is better for subs instead of a 4 channel amp.

BRX1116.1D VS PPI P1000.1? Only powering 1 P3d4-12 in a sealed box. I like the idea of having headroom to not overwork the amp and for possibly going to two subs in the future (2 different subs rated to fit the output of the amp)

Crunch P1000.1
Best Answer: I would go for the PPI unless the BRX has a specific feature you need for your setup. The PPI is rated for more power and has a cleaner signal to noise ratio. My PPI 900.4 and 1000.1 have been going strong for a few years being played every day. Make sure you have a clean signal going in and let the amp do its job. My audio philosophy is to save money on amps and fancy speakers and put more into a good signal processor and installation materials.. Good luck!

Best Answer: Oh yes!! I have an infinity kappa amp at 2 ohms and is pushing ~700 watts. It doesn't get hot, the blue surrounding lights is sweet!! Very happy with this amp.

Would this be able to run 2 Hifonic HFX12D4s (I don't plan on pushing them anywhere near 100%), or would that still be too much?
David I on May 9, 2016
Best Answer: If you're not planning on pushing them anywhere near 100%.... My answer is yes, you can run 2 Hifonics HFX12D4S with this amplifier just fine. And no it wouldn't be too much. I used to own 2 HFX12D4S and BRX1116.1D amplifiers too.

Powering one P3d4-12 , how does this amp compare to the HFi1000.1d? Trying to decide which amp to get (for now while budget is tight). On paper the BRX and HFi are just 50W rms apart at 2 ohms with a $10 price difference. Help me out, pros and cons to choose one over the other please. thanks

Best Answer: At this point you are just looking at specifics. Looks, larger or smaller profile, that's really about it. I love my current setup (P3D4-12 as well). You'll never notice 50rms in real life situations. Maybe in a perfect lab situation. I needed smaller form factor to fit it under my drivers seat.

is this really 1100 watts rms? theres only 1 60 watt fuse
patrick a on Jan 20, 2016
Best Answer: I can't really vouch for the max wattage, but a friend hooked it up to a meter and it read 423 watts RMS on 4ohms (Infinity 100.9 sub). I was satisfied and have kept it there. This reading was not full blast either!! I haven't tried the sub at 2ohms yet, but am going to soon.
Hope this helps!

Will this amp push my 2 15" cvr's good?
A shopper on Apr 8, 2015
Best Answer: Hello,

Please note, neither we nor the customers who chime in will have any idea what "2 15" cvr's" you are referring to. So please take any information you receive with caution. For future inquiries, please provide a MODEL NUMBER, not a description. There are two different CURRENT model 15" CVR Series Subwoofers, Kicker CVR152 (10CVR152) & Kicker CVR154 (10CVR154), and a number of older series. See how this can be a precarious thread? Please resubmit your inquiry, with the proper information and/or contact our sales team a sales@sonicelectronix.com .

will this amplifier power 2 fosgate 15" p3d2 600/1200 watt subs wired down to 2 ohms?
Tim M on Jun 24, 2016
Best Answer: Its rated for 700rms @ 2ohm and if im correct. When u wiring the two subs for a 2 ohm final load. You are only using one coil from each sub. So technically is half rms for each sub for a total of 600rms. So u should be good..
