| August 25, 2009 | Alpine still makes really great subs | ||||||||||||
| Review written by quisp2112 from Los Angeles Before owning the 2x type Rs I had 1x JL Audio 12w7 and I have to say the two type Rs are MUCH better!!! The SQ of these subs is just amazing. Very tight and very powerful. I have heard these subs in a side by side comparison against the 1x JL audio 12w7 using both a rockford T2000bd amp and a slash 1000/1 amp and they sound better in both cases. These are the gold standard in subs and with good reason. Get them and you will not be disappointed!! |
| July 26, 2009 | Great bass | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Sergio from Solvang, CA This subwoofer is great. After owning it for 6 months I can truthfully say that this is a top notch subwoofer. The bass is very clean and loud. I have this sub in a ported 1.7 Cubic foot enclosure whitch is tuned to 33hz. I love my cars sound system to be loud but also very clear with no distortin. In my car this sub is set to be a perfect balance between spl and sq. Do your homework when matching this sub with an amp and enclosure and you will love it. |
| July 7, 2009 | solid sub, good for price | ||||||||||||
| Review written by kyle from wailuku, HI this is the best bang for your buck man. these subs are pretty hefty size for the price. So far so good, and I wish I actually purchased the soundstream T5's instead, but oh well. great subs for price. |
| April 29, 2009 | alpine type r | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Theron from Knoxville TN the alpine type r is a awesome sub but you need to make sure you give it the correct amount of air space and the correct amount of power |
| April 7, 2009 | great bump for your buck | ||||||||||||
| Review written by keith from butte, MT This is a top of the line subwoofer for a mid-line price. I bought it because my buddy had two of the old style in his car and it was RIDICULOUS. My sub certainly didn't let me down. I have it in a sealed box with an MTX Thunder amp. I would consider this sub the best bump for your buck, without a doubt. |
| March 28, 2009 | Pretty great | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Richard from Omaha, NE When you are looking for subs which beat hard with a low price this is the one you are looking for, there are no other subs with such a low price plus the great sound. I have 2 of those already in my car and I'm thinking about getting 2 more of those in my car. No joke, very nice sound with such a low price. |

| Review written by Chris from East Falmouth, MA I bought this sub about 6months ago and all i can say is wow I've owned many subs from kicker to boston acoustic, and this sub is probably the best that you are gonna get for the price. i have it hooked up to a boston acoustic gt 24 and all i gotta say is WOW!! i was heard from 2blocks away and also it can take a lot more power then 500 watts |

| Review written by dave from Sterling, Alaska Ok I have installed tons of subs over the years and these subs with the right amp and box can hit hard. I have four of them in a dual chambered vented box and they hit hard. Make sure your enclosure is the right size and type for your rig. |

| Review written by Lil Jay from Chicago.Ill If you want to slam hard, i suggest you get 2 or more of these with an 2000 to 2400 watt Brutus. I only have 2 being pushed by an MTX Audio 1501D and they slam so hard |
| February 17, 2009 | Sleek and sexy. | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Thomas from Watertown, WI Just got mine in yesterday. Was a little disappointing because my amp turned out to be bad, but the sub itself responds beautifully, no distortion whatsoever. Once I get a decent working amp I'm sure it's going to pound my mirrors off. |
| February 5, 2009 | Subwoofer! | ||||||||||||

| Review written by Jared from Bend, OR I was originally was going to get 2 of these for my 97 Honda Civic LX... that woulda been a baddd idea cuz i can barely handle this 1! its soooo loud its crazy. i had a box custom made at my local audio shop and put in with a Sony XM-D9001GTR have this one wired at 4 ohms... crazzyy loud. i really highly suggest this. im betting my friend 20 dollars my 1 sub is louder than his 2 audiopipe 12's and im very confident i will win. |
| July 11, 2008 | Awsome Subwoofer | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Levi from Lawrenceville, IL A guy I know has 2 of these in a ported box in his cougar, and man are they loud! The crazy thing is how clear they sound at high sound levels, its crazy. If you're looking to have a good loud system without really breaking the bank too much, this is one of the best subs u could find. |

| Review written by Michael from Waxhaw, NC I was at a game with some of my friends and one of my friends showed up with one of these. It was with a 1000 Watt amplifier and a ported box in a ford excursion. IT WAS BOOMING! For a truck that size with only 1 sub i was impressed. |

| July 13, 2007 | pretty good | ||||||||||||
| Review written by scott from delta, BC, Canada This sub was great for the money hit stupidly low notes and never distorted although it hit low in the SPL 135.3 its beacause i only had 200rms going to it instead of 500 and even then they still pounded |
| July 12, 2007 | Amazing | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Tze Hao from tawau, 0, Malaysia My friend had this sub 2 years ago. He's using sony black pentagon 1600watt amp to power this thing. This sub POUND!! i can feel the whole car rattle like hell. Its incredible. I'll recommmend this sub if u want a great bass in your car but must power it with a good amp. |
| March 2, 2007 | no better sound for the price | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Dan from Mason, MI daaang i own 4 of these in my 97 bonneville, i do custom system work for side money but this was my favorite job, all four are in sealed single boxes, in a perfect curve ran by my 2,060 rms Aplhasonik amp, its less than 5/8 of the way up and runs all four to the max at about .9 ohms...i hit 140 dbs with them, the car has horrible sound quality...get a SUV and you will nail 160 dbs easily with four...ill never buy a sub other than Alpine again |

| January 11, 2007 | Alpine Type R | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Troy from Prince Albert, SK, Canada Great sub. Best bang (or "bump") for your buck. Will handle well over the 500rms that is stated. I have a single 12, running off of 800wrms and it takes it like a champ! If you tune your amp properly, and give this thing a nice ported box, it will give you what you want- BASS! I paid too much for this sub, as I purchased it from a shop in my city. I should have looked online in the first place. It was WELL worth it though. |
| January 11, 2007 | Good Sub | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Zach from Santa Fe, NM I purchased an Alpine SWR about 4 months ago and hooked it up to a Hifonics ZXi-6006 (300Wx2@ 2 OHMs)I have each voice coil hooked up to one channel of the amp. The sub is mounted in a custom enclosure. All I can say is that thing hits. Really clear bass inside the car, handles low frequencies very well especially in a sealed enclosure. . |
| December 22, 2006 | Great Sub | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Justin from lecomton, KS Great sub one of my buddys got two and so far it is better than his 2 12 kickers. They are louder and sounds better to.I would have to say to any one buy them. I know I am her shortly. |
| December 14, 2006 | Great sub | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Connie from Fulton, KY THis is a great sub. Has a pounding bass. I have it in a ported box with 2 cubic feet tuned at 38 Hz. This sub is great because it will play at 4,2, and 1 ohm. I only had a JL audio 1200e pushing 200 watts rms and this sub is about blown. But this is a great sub. Just take it very easy on it for a while to make sure it doesn't mess up. This sub will handle 1600 watts easy and is a great deal but maybe I just got a bad sub and they wont fix it. |
| November 8, 2006 | Great SQ Subwoofers | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Nick from Mokena, IL Great subs, the RMS is 500 watts, and after about a year of having these, I've slowly brought them up to around 600watts @ 2ohms mono, and they have been running PERFECT. They sound 10x better than my old L7's SQ wise. They are easily the best sounding subs I've ever owned, and I've owned about 6 different sets. If you are looking to conserve some money and get a great sound, buy these. And don't shop anywhere but sonicelectronix.com! |
| November 1, 2006 | Amazing subs for the price | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Luke from Glen Carbon, IL I wired 2 of these bad boys up in a custom box in the back of my budies truck with a volfenhag 2000 wat amp and wow, you can hear them from a while away and they are still underpowered. Thes subs are very durable, they can withstand alot.These Alpine's are the best bang for your buck. These subs hit Very hard, are very clean and if you want a good system these would be a great add |
| October 20, 2006 | Great Vaule and Great price | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Yatin from Lexington, KY Sub sounded great. Mine finally gave out after a year of playing at high volumes. Great value thinking about ordereing again becuase everything else compared to this sub cost 100 dollars more. Great service with sonicelectronix, will buy again. Bottom line sub is great and very loud I only had 1 in a ported box in a g35 and everyone on the block could hear it. |
| August 18, 2006 | Mean Beast! | ||||||||||||
| Review written by chris from richmond, VA I just purchased this sub(1 dual 2ohm) a week ago(7/22/06) & it is outstanding. the S.Q. from this sub in 1.75>3ft. ported box is very good considering this is the biggest box alpine suggests. Reversing phase on subs makes it even more accurate. I am running it at 1ohm on an Autotek MX2000 at 1/2 gain on boost & it hits harder & louder than the 3-12" Ground Zero Radioactives I had in a 1>3ft. per. sealed at same amp settings. Outright out bangs them with less curent draw & more accurate. Sounds like my L7's just more accurate & cleaner. |
| June 12, 2006 | So sick!!! | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Kevin from Forest Knolls, CA I have one 12" type R sub and the thing thumps. I mean it puts out a total of 1500 watts for just one. my friend has two 15" atlas subs and the put out 1600 together. this sub is great for somone who has little space but wants alot of power. |
| June 9, 2006 | wow. | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Graham from Phoenix, AZ when i bought these the other day i wondered if i should have gone with a different brand or have shopped a little bit more instead of listening to my freind. well my friend was right. right now i have them hooked up dual amped and pushin 600 W to each and boy do these bOOM! i definatley recomend this product because the bang for the buck is in these i am a very honest person i heard my freind role up in my car from about 2 blocks away. this product is a great bargen through sonic electronix. i definatley recomend these subs. MY set up: for those who may wonder... 2 12" alpine type R's dual 2ohm voice coil 2 900 watt mono block hifonics amps soundstream wiring kit. |

| Review written by matt from truckee, CA This is a great sub, I have it hooked up to a brutus 606 monoblock, and it pounds...absoulutly love, should have gottena bigger box thou. i have a 1.25 ported.. |
| June 7, 2006 | AWESOME SUBS | ||||||||||||
| Review written by sean from Cedar Falls, IA these subs are awesome!!! i have them in a ported 1.25 cu. ft. each side Q-Logic box pushed by a Hifonics ZX1006. For anyone out there who doesn't want to spend a lot of money but they want alpine type r's...don't be stupid and buy the dual 4 ohm!!!...buy these, you can get double the amount of wattage wiring them at 2 ohms and i don't know one single brand amp out there that isn't 2 ohm stable.. Great subs, loudest subs i've heard in a long time!!! |
| April 14, 2006 | loud. | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Jake from Lansdale, PA Seriously some really nice subs. I haven't even powered them to the fullest, and i don't really plan on it... i don't need to! they're so loud and hit so hard even at lower wattages -- i used to have 2 10inch infinity kappa's and at higher output on the amp they were much quieter than these. |
| March 27, 2006 | Great product | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Nick from Lafayette, CA Wired it to 4 ohm and it bumps extremely hard. Looks nice and no drawbacks so far. Can't wait to get it running at 1 Ohm. Great sub for the price. |
| February 25, 2006 | nice sub | ||||||||||||

| February 17, 2006 | Great Subs! | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Casey from Orem, UT I've got two of these powered by a hifonics 1000w and they hit o-so-wonderfully. The guy above is confused though. If you want 1 sub get the 2ohm one because then you can wire to 1ohm and almost all (good) amps can handle that. If you get two then you have to run 2ohm or .5ohm and not many companys make amps that will handle .5ohm and 2ohm's isn't as much power (which is what im running). Even at 2ohms they sound killer though. Worth way more then you will pay, I promise. |
| February 17, 2006 | Great Sub | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Benjamin from Rochester, NY I have two of these babies in a ported system in the trunk of my car, and wow, they pack a great punch. Buy these if you want to feel that bass! |
| January 17, 2006 | Simply Amazing | ||||||||||||
| Review written by chad from ramona , CA i put one of thees in a frineds car, powered it with a hifonics bx1200, and in a sealed box and its amazing how loud this sub can get in a small box and with little power. cant wait to see what 2 of these would do in a ported box! |
| January 11, 2006 | Great | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Terry from Sullivan, IN i had this sub for a while and it was very nice. it had a good balance between sound quality and SPL (loudness) it hit very low and always very clean. it is also ver affordable compared to others around its quality. the only reason i got rid of it was i wanted a 2 sub setup but i wish i still had one because they are great. very cool design too. |
| January 9, 2006 | WOW!!!! | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Matt from Danville, CA One of my friends has 2 12" and these are very loud, they hit hard and have great SOUND QUALITY!!!!! if you want nice sounding subs that are very well priced get these! |
| December 12, 2005 | Great Product | ||||||||||||
| Review written by troy from Murray, KY I put this one sub in my maxima to complete my alpine system and it hits. i had always heard the type r was good, but i didnt realize it was as powerful as it is. it was a very good price for the performace it uses. i am pushing it with the alpine 1000 watt mono, a little too much for the sub because i put it in a huge ported box and i dont want to blow it. i will probably move up the type x soon. if you are looking for one sub, buy the 4ohm not the 2, i made that mistake, but if you are getting 2 subs get the 2ohm, you will pull more power from the alpine amp. |
| September 10, 2005 | Tyte Azz Subz ! | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Richard from Baldwin Park, CA hey whats up. i have an accord and just got these subs and damn they are loud. i used to have 2 10in phoenix gold subs at 500rms watts each but now that i upgraded i could be happier. these to 12in blows shit out the way. i got a hifonics bx 1500d amp runnin 500watts rms 2 each sub. now am satisfied to the fullest. recommend you buy these or if u want less power buy the 10's or if you want to be envied by all get the 15's. |
| May 25, 2005 | Goes low, and stays punchy | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Matthew from Trinity, FL I have one of these Alpine 12's in my Accord. It's fully powered and in a box built exactly to Alpine specs. This subwoofer produces extremely accurate bass for a 12" subwoofer. It produces tight bass lines even while listening to Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries"(That's classical music). It can really shake your car with the hard hitting bass from rap music as well as electronic and techno. The sub does tend to get a little sloppy with the tight bass lines from rock music. I noticed it was a little "boomy" during some of my Smashing Pumpkins songs and didn't seperate the bass notes very well while I was listening to Stevie Ray Vaughn. The versatility of the sub is great as far as wiring configurations and box applications. Although you can put it in a vented enclosure, it really belongs in a sealed box. Just make sure you give it enough power and it will perform. All in all this is a solid performing sub, but if you're looking for that really punchy bass, go with a 10" sub. |
| May 17, 2005 | ROCKS!!!!! | ||||||||||||
| Review written by Brandon from Chickamauga, GA I have one type r in my 2001 focus 4dr with a 400 watt rockwood amp pushin it and even at 400 watts this thing hits hard as a mother i cant cut it up all the way tho bc it hits so hard it rattles my cd player and makes it skip so im gonna buy a new cd player and a better amp and put this to the ultimate test this thing makes my tag come out like at least an inch from the car on volume 5 this is a bad sub and i would recommend it to anyone its worth more than its priced so its an awesome bargin |
