great sub. i have 2 with a alpine m1000 amp and ported box and these boys hit hard!! i would definatley reccomend these to anyone looking for a solid woofer! clear bass and when paired with the right amp hit pretty hard. if your looking for a real trunk rattler this is the sub for you!!

I had mine running in a ported box that I made, and was only running 350 watts rms to it, and it hit harder than my brother's two pioneer 12's in a sealed box. over all I am very happy, but I wish alpine made a shallow mount type-r that i can put in my new truck!

I just yesterday installed this subwoofer and I’m not so much “impressed” as I am content. It’s a great sub, don’t get me wrong! Very low distortion (this is primarily dependant upon your amplifier but a good speaker can make even a bad signal work) and it’s Xmax is unbelievable, giving the sub a very powerful look and feel. The box I have it mounted in is a .52 cubic foot sealed enclosure which sounds pretty good, but I would recommend going with a larger box if you can spare the space. The sub is rated at 500 watts RMS, but I’m only putting about 360 to it with a Soundstream XTA360.2 amplifier and it’s fine; just make sure that if you’re going to “under power” it, to set the sensitivity of the amplifier correctly, that’s a huge factor in how well it’s going to sound! It’s a very well made component and I would most definitely urge anyone looking for a good value to go with this subwoofer, you wont be disappointed!

i had 2 rockford p3s in my truck and liked them but when i put the type r in my truck all i could say is wow they are loud i have them hooked up to my rockford 800.2 and they will not quit i will allways use alpine

I have two of these in my eclipse hooked up to an 1100 watt directed amp and it pounds very hard and sounds very nice. I wouldrecomend these to anyone!

Great subs for the money. These subs are loud, and sound clear even at high volumes. They are well worth the money. I would recomend the Alpine Type R subs to anyone wanting a good reliable yet cheap subwoofer.
