I needed a remote that could control the head unit installed in my '56 Ford hot rod. The head unit is hidden in the glove box, about 5 feet away from the driver's seat and behind a very heavy steel door (like they USED to make cars).

The RUE-M1RF was the perfect solution. Even though the receiver is sealed away in the glove box, I have complete control of the sound system without having to take my eyes off the road.

I highly recommend this product.

Also, the person at Sonic who worked with me figure out what I needed was very helpful. He took the time to explain how this remote was different from the standard piece and what I'd need to do to install it. Shipping was quick and the transaction was very smooth.

I have this unit attached to my Alpine DVA-9861 on my 40' boat. The Head Unit is below in the living quarters and the remote is up at the bridge. The RF receiver plugs into the back of the HU where the steering wheel control would attach. The attachment looks like a little headphone jack and there is also a +/- attachment and another wire that you attach to 12v to link the remote to the receiver. The little headphone plug could be improved- when you attach the receiver and then cram it into the Nav. station below, there's a good chance that you will knock the plug loose. I ended up using some electrical tape to secure it in place.

The remote unit that I keep at the helm is small and fits tightly into the little mounting attachment. I ditched the mounting attachment and put some velcro on the back side of this. I have the remote attached up under a concealed place in a little cut-out cubby. The velcro works well and it keeps the remote out of the weather and out of sight.

Performance- I specifically ordered this unit because it would allow me to control the volume etc. from the helm-- this is not 'line of sight' where IR would work OK. On the other hand, it is only about 15 feet fromt he helm to the Nav station below. There seems to be a slight delay between pushing the button and getting the expected result from the HU. Sometimes this is 5 seconds or more before anything happens-- then when something does happen, it goes very quickly-- like turning the volume all the way down instead of just a little bit. It may take some getting used to. The buttons also seem a little 'sticky' in that they do not release smoothly- I may have just received a faulty unit. Overall though it works as advertised for the most part and it sure beats going below to make any adjustments.

Overall, for a hundred bucks, I was expecting something that was a little better.
