This is the word carefully chosen by Boston Acoustics to described the SPG555 reference subwoofer. With its neodymium structure, the powerful subwoofer is a lot lighter than its closest subwoofers of similar designs. Boston Acoustics unique Removable Voice Coil (RVC™) system and Soft Part System (SPS™) help make this subwoofer an advanced and powerful subwoofer. The oval design is made to push more air in a more effective manner. The SPG555 sub also works in enclosures with a volume as small a 1 cubic foot! This is truly a revolutionary subwoofer with a Boston Acoustics reputation.

13" Oval Boston Acoustic sub
This is an excellent sounding sub, don't know why Boston stopped making it, I would like to get a second one.

I am currently auditioning this sub (so the "ownership" category is a bit subjective).
My local dealer is a really nice guy with loads of knowledge in the field of car audio. I stopped in there the other day inquiring about a new sub(s) for my car. I recently bought a GT-24 amp from him, and my (2) 10" PG competition subs just didn't seem to be cutting it. He suggested the 555 in a Boston "GT Tuned" box. I must say that this one sub hits way harder than my 2 10's, and still remains "tight and clean" even at high volume. I haven't tuned the deck or the amp. Both are at "flat" settings. I can only imagine what it will sound like once I tell him that I'll be keeping it, and we get a chance to dial it in.
So, in conclusion, I can only say that I am really impressed with this sub after roughly 4 hrs. use.
As a side note: I'm 40 years old. I am in the home A/V business, and have been for over 10 years. That being said, I'm not a kid just looking for "loud bass". I want it to sound like my home system does, and that's no easy task. This may not matter to many folks, but at home I'm running a Pioneer Elite SC-07 receiver with Klipch Reference speakers all around.
That translates to:
Front L/R- 7 series, each containing (2) 10" drivers
Center- 7 series containing (2) 8" drivers
Rears- 81 series containing (2) 8" drivers
Subs- (2) Reference 12" w/passive radiators and huge power.
Look, if you're in the market for subs... or amps for that matter, BA should be at very least a strong contender.
My ratings are based on the fact that I still have to audition the JL 12W-7
Nuff said.

My goal is to reproduce an audiophile sound close to a home system.
I have the sub running with no cut off and firing through the rear arm rest when down, staight into the cabin. The set up with no cut off gives me the fullness that was lacking in the lower midrange with ample thump and a very clean, balanced and distortion free sound that sounds like a quality home set up. Highly recomended!
